Title: Arra footings
Post by: Pettit877 on August 05, 2015, 07:29:00 PM
I am thinking of footing some cx heritages that I have.  My question is does a 2" aluminum foot on cabin shafts stiffen or weaken the spine of the arrow. Part of me says weaken due to the Added weight the other half says stiffen due to the extra length of the footing past the length of the insert.

What is your experiance

I foot all my carbon arrows with an inch and a half to 2 inch footings. According to stu miller's spine calculator it weakens the shafts but to be honest I notice no difference.

Usually the weakening affect of the additional 25ish grains is counteracted by the slight stiffening affect by the 2" footing.

At about 3+ inches you should see the stiffening affect kind of take charge a bit more....assuming the only weight added is from the footing.

I usually use a 3.5 to 4" footing for the stiffening affect it has when putting 500+ grains in front of it....as well as making the arrow bombproof, of course.

i find it stiffens the spine when extended past the insert
