Post by: mark Willoughby on August 04, 2015, 10:24:00 PM
I've been thinking a lot lately that Id just love to see a beaver tail grip on a Blackwidow or a Javaman has anybody had Jim do this for them it doesn't have to be those particular bows there just the two I'm thinking about getting done ... If you've had the big guy do a grip for Ya then by all means post some pics !

I have a thunderchild with one on it.  It has some VERY good grip to it, even with wet hands.  I have never shot one and it is taking some getting used to.  I have a callous developing where the bow presses into my hand.

Shoulda done more of the honey do I guess..  :)

Jim can do a wide variety of grips with his Tails, I have seen him install a few onto bows I never thought would work, in the end they turned out great.

Hopefully some pictures will pop up for you but give jim a call. I'm sure you will be pleased.

Hes done a couple for me on some longbows.  And some for my friends.  We drop them off at ETAR and pick them up the next day.  They always look great.

I had one on a Shrew Samurai and liked it, but I am starting to really like a checkered grip as well.

Big Jim also sells them to put on yourself with instructions, it's not all that hard.

He put one on for me, a then new Bear T/D. He took what he said were artistic liberties to show off the wood grain. While it does look good, my fingers wrap over the edges of it and I'm not real happy with it.

I dont think there's a better lookin grip out there. I've often wondered how long they would hold up to regular use. Has anyone used one for a solid 8-10 years yet?

I doubt that you could wear out a Beaver tail. I've never seen a beaver with a wore out tail and they are several years old by the time we get the tails from them.

I have on rare occasion had a tail slip after extensive use. It happens occasionally but it is rare. It only requires re gluing and it is good to go. I don't think I have ever heard of having one slip twice.

I charge between $55 for longbow style grips and up to $75 for more complicated to install grips. That includes all materials. It doesn't include return shipping however.

I keep Black and Brown tails in stock for install or you can buy them to do it yourself.
thanks ,bigjim

I put one my Bear T.D. and love it!  Unlike Blacksticks I kept mine full length and have no problems.  I have really large hands also.  They are great in all weather conditions.

As you can tell, all my bows have a beavertail by BigJim

After years of use, no issue at all!

I always thought a beaver tail grip was more for look than functionality. After getting my Buffalo that had one on it I think it is hands down the best material I have ever had on a bow grip!

Blackstick, I don't know how they feel, but those grips sure look nice on that bow.  Looks like he did a great job.  Maybe don't close your hand all the way so your fingers don't touch down there ?
