I agree, hard to pick five I wouldn't hunt with. But I think if I could get all five together at the same time, it would be nice to hunt, learn and hear stories from the following.

Roger Rothhaar
Gene Wensel
Barry Wensel
Paul Brunner
Biggie

Any body on this site would be a blessing to hunt with, for sure. But the first one that came to mind for me was Mike Mitten. I read a little bit about him when reading about Bart Schleyer. Who would also be on my list. I was realy impressed with Mike. Hopefully im not mistaken but when he was  asked who was his hero or something like that he responded by saying his only hero is Jesus Christ. That really impressed me. This past Sept While I was in Alaska, I stopped at a taxidermy shop to have my bear sealed, It was Fosters Taxidermy, I think. While I was there he had two pictures on the wall that stood out to me right away. The first one was of Bart Schleyer. I asked if he knew Bart and his facial expession just changed, shocked I guess that I asked the question. I could tell that it bothered him a little so I didnt ask all the questions I wanted to but he said that Bart was like a brother to him and worked out of his shop for a long time. The other picture was of Mike Mitten. He said Mike was a great guy. That was a pretty cool moment for me. Anyway I would hunt with just about anybody that shot a recurve or longbow at least once. So feel free to invite.  :)  Take care. Gilbert

I'm going out on the limb here...
True- I don't know most of you guys personally, but would like to hunt with anyone possible.  I could pick my Top 5 and not hurt many feelings for sure: so here it goes.....
The Wensel Brothers- no explanation needed, do they count as 1, 2, or even possibly 3 if they stand real close together?
Ok- I guess I can't pick any others, the list goes through my head and I would want to leave anyone out.  Sign me up with the Wensels first, and then I'll decide after that hunt  :campfire:

It's certainty an honor to make any-ones wish list. Quite an honor!

I've been a very fortunate individual in that I've been able to meet and hunt with many archers I've looked up to. I do think that we all need hero's, mentors, and guys we look up to. It keeps us all striving to to do better. It also helps keep us on track in times of need. Like I said, I've hunted with most of those guys I've admired. Some have become great friends and for that I am truly honored.

My top 5 list these days includes the names of guys who are not known in archery ranks, publications, or TV Shows. My favorite archers these days are those fresh to the sport and struggling to overcome obstacles. You guys keep me seeing a fresh outlook through these aging pair of eyes. Your excitment, your struggles, and your victories are all what it's all about!     I love all the new guys!!!! My list has got to include more than 5. CK

Impossible choice. I've been very, very lucky in that my first hunt was with two of the guys already mentioned (Charlie Lamb & Curtis) plus a couple of guys I'd dreamed of hunting with (Bob Walker, Vance Brewer, Mark Horne) I can't wait for the opportunity to share a camp with any or all of them again. I learnt more from these guys in 4 days than I could've in a lifetime without them.
Unfortunately my top 5 dream hunting 'Team' involves mainly folks that were dead a long time before I was born (Jim Bridger, Saxton Pope, Art Young, Ishi, etc...)

It would be a tough if not an impossible choice. There is really no one here I wouldn't want to hunt with! I do know that I would love to have Gene and Barry hunt with me on my property here in IN, just to learn from them what I do wrong! LOL!!

I believe every member of TG that I've met would be a swell companion on any hunt. Pleased to say that I've shared hunting camps with all but the Ferret from your list. And even spent time with Mickey at the MOJam gathering - talking bows, eating HDFH and shooting selfbows. Hope to keep the circle of great friends growing.

You can draw names from the TG hat and pick the next 5 for me.

Boy I am humbled to be on anyones list, thank you.
Yes I too would love to hunt with many new people as well . There are several people that I have hunted with that are gone now and I cherish those times, but I also enjoy the hunts like the TX sweet that I got to meet several guys I have not before. I guess hunting to me has gotten to be more about the good times spent with good friends and there are alot of them here on TG

a lot of great replies, I ask this question to others. Because I mostly hunt alone, I was only on 3 hunts with others...Not counting when I was helping put hunters on a friends land when I lived in Tejas.

I asked Deadbolt if He would want to come hunt up here where I live. He'll be the first of many members I will be hunting with....Hopefully.

The Members I named are the ones I have have emailed or talked to, Mr. Charlie Lamb, I beleave we emailed on a question I had, but mostly... From the Stories He has Told on here & "The BowHunters of Trad Gang.com DVD". I know others has just as great of stories, But there is something about Mr. Lamb..

I do need a mentor, but these days You need more then one Mentor, That's why I come to TradGang...
I also know I can & Have learned some stuff from all of them..I was hopeing to have had the chance to have met CK, when I was down in Tejas... But I had to come back Home sooner then pland.

With all respect to everyone I have some of the best freinds because of tradgang. Leota deer camp,,three years of bunny hunts,,summer shooting,, I can't even start to name all the folks I've personally talked to on the phone, emailed, hunted with or shot bows with,,truely amazing indeed. If anyone wanted to hunt for turkeys in my neck of the woods your welcome,,got a log cabin full of mice ta boot. But ya might have to beat Eric (stealhead) before he gets here,,LOL,,

But if I picked five it would go like this
1. God ( best luck a man could get ehh!)
2. My wife (cause she's a natural shot)
3. My daughter (cause she the oldest and would hunt first)
4. My son ( cause he's pulling my 53# RER little river back already and he aint even two yet,,It runs in his blood!!)
5. my Grandpa,, (never did get to meet him but someday I'll sit at the great burning camp fire with him,, my mom says I cast a flyrod just like him,,Gives me goose bumps when I think of that day she told me that.)

I went to GORH afew years ago. Man what a time. Due to a storm and power outage I missed this years event. I hope to make the next one just for the fun of being with other tragang guys and others who love trad archery.

I hope to get as many hunts in with gang members in the future.

Ya know , I thought about this all evening yesterday and I would have to agree , I would like to hunt with CK as well . Every time we have been in camp together either I was the guide ( Bear camp) or he was the guide (TX), maybe sometime we should just go hunting together Curtis. No work , just play.

How about we schedule a day or two before or after your hunt here in January. I'd like to do a simple bunny hunt where we could enjoy some comaradrie. ck

After thinking on this a bit. If it could be all five at once they would be.

Pinecone
Killdeer
Tamure
Shell
Northernmist

I think that would be a camp a person could learn something in, have a lot of laughs and wouldn't smell all that bad after a week.

After a lot of thought, here is mine.... in no particular order.

Dave Peterson
G. Fred Asbell
T.J. Conrads
I'll keep the list to three since I like to hunt solo.

All stellar fellas whom I have met.  You know sometimes in the first few minutes of meeting someone you know a lot about them?  I know these guys would challenge me in many ways.

I think my list would be as follows:

OL - He built the riser for my ACS CX and designed    the limbs that were built by A&H
Elmer Patton - He can't hunt anymore because of bad shoulders, but he built my Crow Creek Black Feather and I would like to see him be in the camp.
Shane Collier - He sold the ACS CX to me
Sticshooter - a great fella and very fine artisan
Pinecone - She likes Marriah Thermal's, she would have to be great company in the hunting camp!

I have read through this a time or three, and would have a really hard time narrowing it down. But after much thought here goes, some of these are probably pre trad gang, but I feel the same way about them.
So here's my list( in no particular order), and most of these guys/gals were/are the embodiment of trad to me when I first came back to trad more than ten years ago.

George (Jawge) Tsoukalas
Sterling Van (Van/TX) Harrelson
Mickey (the ferret) Lotz
Rusty (trashwood) Craine
Jim (jim in oregon) Fetrow
2walks
Jason R. (JRW) Wesbrock
Killdeer
Littlefeather
adkmountainken
George D. Stout
Ber643
Ron LaClair
Charlie Lamb
and so and, and so on.

Ok, that's more than five, but I said at the beginning it would be hard to narrow down. I wasn't kidding there's so many to choose from here. I'd be more than happy to share a camp with any tradganger. jmho

Edit: how could I forget Jerry Simmons    :knothead:   (I know he's not a TG'er or any other member for that matter, and my apologies for getting so far off topic), but if it hadn't of been for an article about him I would have though(where I was living in N. TX at the time) hunting with longbows/recurves was completely extinct.
