So.... I have been hunting wheels for a few years and then 18 months ago started to build my own bows. I Practised for a season every week (almost every day) and then decided last year I am not ready to hunt with the trad yet. So I practised another year and build twenty more bows :) . Come this year's hunting season I felt better about my shooting and decided to do the trad hunt. I got a chance on a wildebees and after drawing twice, letting down and telling myself I have taken these kind of shots while practising tens of thousands of times. Took a deep breath, focused on the spot, draw and let go without thinking to much in one movement. It is so incredible that when you take a shot on an animal, that you see the arrow as if in slow motion travelling through the air hitting the spot and the fletches disappearing and then the spurt of blood as clear as anything! I think only someone who have done it themselves will be able to relate to that experience. The wildebees ran about sixty yards before expiring. Pass through.

The bow #55 58" forward riser build by myself and the arrow 590grain tipped with Tigershark broadhead.

Yep, I'll never forget watching the white fletchings on my first arrow flying in a big arch towards my first ever deer shot with a stickbow. As it disappeared into her side I just sat in amazement. A feeling that can't be described.
Congrats and keep after it. Impressive you have made so many bows and are using them right out of the gate.
That is just awesome! I just got back from my 3rd trip to South Africa, and still have not managed to take a wildebeest yet! He is number one on my hit list for my next trip over there!
Congrats again! There is no other feeling in the world like that when you walk up to a critter you just shot with a trad bow!

Very cool. Many congrats.
Way to go! Congrats!!
Thank you everyone, I do feel privileged and thankfull to have experienced this hunt.
That is one heck of a first trad kill, and with a bow you built yourself. Can't get better than that.
Impressive, nothing more I can add other than congrats on a great first clean kill.
My Best hunting buddy drew that tag last fall. We scouted it all summer and took a great Billie opening weekend. My buddy no longer shoots trad so I never posted the movie I made for him about the hunt on this site. Its on youtube under "OF Goats and Glory". It will definately raise your confidence to get it done with a bow. We killed our goat the second day and blew a stalk on day one inside 15 yards. AMAZING country!. PM if you need for some moral support if need be.
