I was thinking of getting a longbow with a foreword riser. A handle like a recurve . With string follow but where would I find such a bow ? Well I found it . A frontier 66. By Steve at eagle wing. To say this is a fantastic shooting and looking bow is a understatement ! . 66 inch 55@27 . Koa riser . Boo cores. With carbon back and yew belly. Steve was just great on getting the bow to me and a great guy to talk too. I can't post pics but emailed Steve to do it . Pics to come.
Pictures bro.... we GOTTA have pictures... :jumper: :jumper:
Hey Kirk. Call up Steve and get him on here . Lol.
:campfire:
Oh man! That bow has been tugging at me for over a year and a half...not too many people shoot'em or seem to review them. I would love to hear your review on it. I will own one...someday.
Bill-
I have one probably going to sell.
I just got in from the mountains. Went into the High CAscades today and shot bows and did some scouting.
Checked my emails and Bro Kirk said this needed attention. I think that meant pics. So here we are.
Nice long tips with top nocks so the new Frontier 66 has easy stringing and positive center location. You can push pull these bows with ease in the field.

Dan wanted a high gloss finish. It shows off this fantastic koa but its so bright and reflective that its hard to get a good pic. This is sure beautiful wood though. This finish is 4 coats of epoxy , Three coats of high gloss finish and then 7 or eight coats of Tru Oil and then hand compounded out and rubbed with sheep wool.

(http://eaglewingarchery.i8.com/images/Breen/16.jpg)Triple overlays on the black carbon back are purpleheart, yew, and finally some more of that beautiful koa.
More to come in later post. God to get to bed.
God bless, Steve
Wow...that is a beauty. Love that Koa.
Bill-
Hey bill lifeis to short. Go and get yourself one. . It shoots great . Very smooth. And fast. I was out stump shooting Friday with her first time out to realy see how she shoots . Hickory . Forge woods . Gold tip heavy hitters. .all were about 645 grs. 55/60 spine. Handled them all very well. . Killed some pope and young stumps . And made some shots that I didn't believe . Had to be the bow lol. Call up Steve. He will tell you more
Nice

This is such beautiful wood that Dan elected to not take the hand-sewn leather grip. This pic shows the black phenolic I beam in the 3/16 past center cut sight window. The window is radiused front and back. The grip profile is also evident and has a slight palm swell, The shelf is radiused front and back and side for great fletch clearance and right over the hand for nautral shooting. (http://eaglewingarchery.i8.com/images/Breen/23.jpg)Unstring profile shows the foreward riser string follow profile. Do not let that fool you, This is a fast bow. The fades go out a full 27 inches and has tip wedges which place the sweet spot and also max the performance according to the draw length of the archer. These specs are for Dan's bow and are made both in length and thickness according to the draw of the archer .
All these bows come with skinny string.

The strung profile of Dan's bow shows a sleek true D fore=ward riser profile with 6 inch brace height and stable high early draw weight. For those that like a higher brace you can do that with no problem. However with 3/16 past center the arrows are soooooooooo easy to tune at a low brace there is no need unless you shoot a style that makes a low brace hit your wrist.

Steve . Thanks for posting . I guess I can't say much more than that. ,
Now that wood is beautiful a real fine stick.
Steve, that is beautiful.
Bill-
Very very nice.
This bow has been in the back of my mind from the 1st time I saw it.
Wow, that is one fine looking bow,.... the Koa is gorgeous....!
Thanks everybody . And it shoots as good as it looks . Very pleased with her
Dan,
I think you'll enjoy Steve's Frontier 66. I've had mine since October 2012, and am very pleased with the looks and handling. Rosewood riser, bamboo core with black myrtle veneer.
Is my bow cut past center, Steve, I can't remember?

Hey Phil I'd send that bow back . You missed that little white dot ! Lol. No wonder we like the same bows. Your 12 days older than me same year. . I got to respect my elders. !!
THAT.... is a nice looking piece of Koa.
X2 what Dan said my frontier shoots great and i was very impressed with how fast it shoots being a string follow bow. You should be happy if you try one.
Phil , yes that bow is cut 3/16 past center. It also has carbon back.
God bless, Steve
Oh no, Dan, you're MY elder, you were born before me!! But, I still take it as a compliment that we like the same bow.
Why do I click on these threads. My list just got longer.
Well Dan...I took your advice and gave Steve a call. Very helpful and great to talk to. We came up with a nice configuration and I can't wait to see it come to fruition. I explained to Steve that in order to get a bow...I need to sell a bow. Rules of the household. So the "D" gets replaced. I have been wanting one of these for a while. The forward riser makes so much sense. Any of you other guys care to share some pics of your Frontiers?
Bill-
Absolutely awesome work on a gorgeous piece of wood making a true keeper. Enjoy.
I have just enough of that piece of koa for one more bow.
God bless, Steve
:biglaugh:
Hey bill . Don't sell that super d. You will regret it . And jump on that last piece koa Steve has . Ill tell yea it. Is. Nice. !!, Rules are made to be Broken . Good luck on your 66.

Here is a Frontier 66 in reverse. It makes a wonderful slight back set bow. Its called the Tribute.
God bless, Steve
Steve...
I was looking up old posts on this bow.
A few years ago you posted the following.....
"...
I will build this bow mostly in the 66. I can go down to 62 and 63 with power lam adjustment depending on draw length. 29 would be max on the 64 and 28 max on the 62. The 66 would be maxing at 31. God bless you all, Steve"
Are these lengths still available?
Also, how are you measuring draw length?...I typically just measure from the deepest part of the grip to the string..but not everyone does.
Thank you.
John. I have revised the bow as of this year with a shorter riser. This allows me more flexability in bow length. I can now build the bow down to 58 inches . Shortest I have built though and I use it for elk hunting and pull it 28 inches with no stack. So I can build this bow for just about any bow length from 58 to 68 inches. For anything over 30 inches I do recommend the 68 inch bow though because even with all my tweaking it still has some limitations inherent to a D bow.
All bowyers I know measure from the back of the bow at the sight window and 90 degrees to the arrow nock. Brace height is measured from the deepest part of grip and 90 degrees to the string.
Generally the depth of the grip is 1 and 3/4 inch from deepest part to back. This can vary with straight grips and the grip may be rounder and depth more like 1 1/2 inch/ But still , brace is from deepest part of grip to the string and draw length is from string to back of sight window which is the furthest part of the bow from the string. In this case the back is the front haha. Talk about confusing!!! :knothead:
God bless, Steve
Thanks for the clarification Steve.
..guess I just picked up 1 1/2" of draw ...lol
Very interesting bow.
Sure is cool!
A 62"-64" just might be my style.
Thanks!
