I've been sitting in a shelter belt between a plowed field and a cut corn field the last 3 nights trying to get a shot at some does that have been feeing on the dropped corn. Actually, I've been ground hunting for them and using my new Loggy Bayou tree seat while clad in my ASAT 3-D suit. I have to give a little plug here for it; best thing I've bought for ground hunting in a long, long time.
Anyhow, last night I shot over a nice doe at about 17 yards. I was just happy to have the opportunity and got to stand motionless for about an hour and a half watching the show before the shot. It was really priceless to watch the activity, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dissappointed. I've practiced my rear off this summer with the Toelke Whip my wife and kids got me for father's day, but I am realistic at the same time knowing how much practice it takes to become proficient.
This afternoon I went back with the intent of redeeming myself should the opportunity to do so presented itself. It wasn't what I had planned, but I NEVER pass up a chance at a turkey. Here in eastern KS we can take up to 4, either sex. 3 hens came walking my way, and I thought to myself "here's your chance".
I am so proud. I love huting of any kind, but turkey hunting with a bow is my passion. So here it is:
20 yard shot, 55 lb. Toelke Whip longbow, Simmons Razorshark broadhead...head shot. (Sorry for the quality of the 2nd photo; it was the camera in my phone)

Sweet Shooting!!!! One day Just one day I may get one Like that.
Congrats! Well done.
not many people can take a turkey as their first trad kill! nice job!!
Well done.
awesome , congrats :0)
Congrats on a great job, ejes. Like the others, I hope to do that some day too. Beautiful looking bow your neat family got you. I also shot "over' the first few (I think 3) Deer i got a chance at with trad gear. Then I got one, and two more the following year. This year I've only got one shot ... and shot "under" - Grrrrrr - LOL. Old bugaboos made me over(under)-compensate, I think.
Nice bird and nice bow.
awesome! there hard enough with a shotgun, but i cant wait till give it a whirl with my bow this spring. and nice shot!
Thanks guys. I've learned the majority of getting started in hunting with trad gear by reading here; so there are thanks all around to those of you at trad gang. I don't have anyone to show me in person what I'm doing right or wrong, so I'm just doin' what feels right and having fun with it. As I say at the end, there is a LOT of luck there obviously. The good Lord was definitely holding my off hand on that one; or maybe both! :coffee:

Good shot. I wish I could hit a turkey in the head.
Awesome shot! I have never hunted turkeys and don't see many in my area, but it sure sounds like a blast.
Head shot! Gotta love it.
