Title: Old Selway slide on hood reborn!
Post by: heartlandbowyer on July 21, 2015, 11:42:00 PM
I was digging through some old archery tackle and found an old rubber Selway slide on quivers. the only thing I never liked about the hood was its size, just seamed to be so large and cumbersome.
I'm sure I'm not reinventing the wheel hear but it may give some of you tight wad guys like me a new quiver without the cost. And IMO the Selway slide on is a rock solid quiver, once shes on she stays put.  (http://i1336.photobucket.com/albums/o641/cengert74/Mobile%20Uploads/Archery%20stuff/8F17C519-48C3-4B9F-B9CD-55B6CD2C5607_zps1fqoe76x.jpg) (http://s1336.photobucket.com/user/cengert74/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Archery%20stuff/8F17C519-48C3-4B9F-B9CD-55B6CD2C5607_zps1fqoe76x.jpg.html)
Take the screw out of the quiver hood and pull the mounting bracket off and slide the rubber off.

I forgot to take pictures of the next steps but I used tin snips to cut a long narrow V notch on both sides of the plastic housing so it would squeeze down to a lower profile. I next used a leather punch to put an even number of holes on both sides of both notches. Now get out the leather and barge cement and glue the leather on to the plastic. Leave extra leather to wrap around the insides of the V notches. The holes are pretty easy to follow when you stitch it back together.

Well done.  I've felt they were too big as well.

That looks slick! Almost looks like one of Big Jim's quivers. I've always thought the Selway's were a little too big as well. I've got a rubber one laying around here maybe I'll have to give this a try.
