Recovered both the primary and secondary feathers from my grandsons Turkey but am wondering if the secondaries are going to be suitable for fletching. Anybody have any experience with these?
They're usable, but not as stiff as primaries. Some folks use them for flu flus.
Plenty useable. You'll likely break or lose the arrow before the feather wears out.
Perfectly usable if big enough. I've cut fletching out of both primary and secondary from a couple Turkeys and they worked great.
Good news, thanks!
Usable...but soft and very noisy in my experience.
Very usable especially if you cut 3 or 4 inch flights. 5 inch works too but they are a bit less robust than primaries.
Thanks, Ron, I make a lot of arrows for kids so they will be used there. Also appreciate the topic on dyeing.
These are from my grandsons Turkey that he got this spring and I want to make a set up for him before he heads back to school.
My secondaries whistled in flight badly.
I only use them for fluflus and they are damn hard to spot once you shoot them versus brightly colored feathers and i wouldn't mix them on the same arrow.
The mixing I can see would be a problem. Hoping to get a half dozen out of these but it will be tight if Even possible!
