Title: Help with spine selection
Post by: Yelvi on July 17, 2015, 01:12:00 AM
Hello all. I recently purchased a 45 lb. Samick Verna. I have a 30" draw length.  What spine selection would you guys suggest in both carbon and aluminum for this setup?

2016-2018 aluminum

.400 carbon with 175-200 grains up front

31" 3555/500 GT Trad with factory insert and probably 145-175 up front. Possibly even 125.
Leave'em full length and trim to tune 1/4" at a time if you have a saw for carbons. I'd go no shorter than 31". You'll be drawing about 50lbs+ at 30".

I'd go with .500 carbons as well.

Do it like Bud says. For the alum you should try both the 2016 and the 2018. Another size is the 2114 after all your are about 50# give or take. With the length you need you will need a little stiffer arrow for broadheads.

For that samick i'd go 500's on carbon unless you are setting up EFOC arrows... You may be able to get full length 32" 400's to work, but you'll be putting a lot of weight up front.....

Is that riser cut past center?  that will make a difference.

The riser isn't quite cut to center. How will that change things?

It will make the 500 assuredly the better choice. You'll need more paradox to make'em fly well. That would lean me more towards the 145 or 175gr points with my above comments.
