What is the value of these, and do they still make them anymore? A friend is wanting to sell his, and has no idea where to start. I have shot the bow and it seems to be a great shooter. 64" 55#
Thanks
I sold mine a few years ago and believe I got around 300.00 but that was 5-6 yrs ago.. not sure if they are still being made no one seems to be able to get in contact with the owner/bowyer.. great shooting bows though really liked mine.
Probably my all-time favorite longbow. I was a dealer for CM for years, but when the founders/owners retired and the bowyer took over, the business side went to crap. As much as I love the bows, I won't ever be involved with them again due to that. Dang shame the reputation Dorothy and Larry worked so hard for so long for got dumped on.
What are they worth? No idea. I've owned the same one for near 20 years. Think it retails for $600+ these days. Mine is a work horse--been used and abused, still spot on the money as far as the marked draw weight and still shoots great.
If it's a one-piece with no veneers, and no cocobolo riser, in good condition, should be worth at least $250-$300. With veneers and one of the optional riser woods, should bring more...but since the new owner trashed their reputation, who knows. I'll probably never sell mine, but I won't ever buy another either.
They're still made but you almost have to know the bowyer (Marc) to get anything done. I think he has some health problems.
I agree with LBR, my all time favorite bow. (I shoot longbows and recurves)
You might try contacting Boorman Archery in New Westminster BC as I think they still sell CM.
I heard he's still making bows...years after he left lots of us high and dry. I considered him a friend...to the point I had bought birthday presents for his kids. Never was told why I was never reimbursed for what I was owed. I let it ride for years, waiting for some kind of explanation.
Great bows, but if you have a problem you are most likely on your own.
Just checked Boormans webpage and they show no Checkmates what so ever so looks like they are out unless they special order them and then I would be leary given bowyers dependability in the past..
Yes they were.....my first one rocked, until it cracked (take down)....my replacements just weren't the same bow. dunno what the difference was. I still have that first one, shot a lot of critters with it!
Thanks all for the comments
