My boys ( although only 7 and 9 ) have been shooting for most their lives, David at age two started with a plastic coat hanger and a panicle......
As they get older they see and are interested in compounds anytime they see one.
I have a couple of youth model compounds that people have given me over the years for the boys but I try to keep them put away, ( out of sight out of mind ) they both have shot a couple of arrows out of them a few times but not for the last year or so.
I desire for them to be interested in hunting and shooting so don't want to totally squash their desires if it only stoked by a compound but so far the traditional rout has been satisfying their desires, but there is still a spark ignited in them every time they see someone shooting a compound. I know the feeling, there is something neat and cool looking about it that attracts us.
BUT its the simplicity that Iv come to crave more then anything :help:
A couple rounds is all it took before I started to get the looks.....
I could see it in their eyes, Papa, why isn't it going where I want it to?
Why did that arrow only go halfway to the target?
Why did that arrow fly backwards out of my bow?
On the 3rd round William looks at me and asks "can I shoot my bow now"?
I turned to David and asked him if he wanted to go back to his bow and I got the ( can I please ) head nod :thumbsup:

I want to thank you in advance for your boys. My dad and I had a very special relationship mainly due to hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. We had many great times through my sports career, but the memories that remain are shooting bows, hunting and fishing.
He was a traditionalist and shot the same bighorn recurve for longer than I could remember. He taught me right! I did dabble in the compound for a few years in college, and he just told me I was in the get'em faze. I didn't know what that meant at the time, but I know now.
Enjoy these special moments, and now that i'm expecting a son in a month I plan on teaching him the same.

Being a dad teaches YOU more things then you can teach your kids! Mainly for me it's how selfish I am.....
