Hey guys, I want to make some kydex knife sheaths, and I've been snooping around on the interwebs a little finding out the particulars. I've never had a kydex sheath before, and one of the knives I want to make one for is a '70's model A.G. Russell Canadian skinner given to me by my dad. This is my number one go to knife, but I hate the original sheath. Getting around to my question, will the kydex scuff, scratch, or damage the blade or scales? This is a knife I use a lot in the field, and it shows use, but I don't want to damage it with a bush league homemade sheath.
As always, thanks in advance.
Jake
I'd put this one on the Hunting Knives and Crafters Forum. Jeff Springer (Tippit) has mastered the Kydex thing.

Thanks Michael, it was actually Tippet's sheaths that caught my eye during the auction. I'll stick it up over there and see what I figure out. If he uses it for those beauties, I doubt it'll harm a knife. Thanks again.

I doubt any damage occurs. i made a knife and use kydex and it holds well with no obvious damage.
Kydex is no harder on a bike than leather. Thing to watch for is sand that gets in the sheath. If you get sand in it wash it out asap.
I actually have a podcast on how to make things with kydex publishing next week or the week after. It will explain how to do this easy process yourself and what you need.
Thanks Jason! I'm a huge fan of the podcast, I'll definitely be looking for it.
