Title: The "Working Man's" Bow...???
Post by: woodchucker on July 01, 2015, 10:57:00 AM
For many years, the Bear Grizzly was hailed as the "Working Man's" Bow... It was affordable & reliable. What more could a working man ask for??? I'm a HUGE fan, of the Bear Grizzly!!! I've had many over the years, and I have 5 old Grizzlys right now...

Last month, I bought my son Tyler, a used Bear Montana longbow. I've seen & shot them from time to time, but never actualy HAD one... Well, It may not be much to look at, but it is CERTAINLY a PERFORMER!!!!! Sweet shooting & quiet! Draws smooth and shoots where you look!!! Also... It's vertualy BOMB PROOF!!!!! Tyler LOVES IT!!!!!

Could it be possible... That Bear has created ANOTHER "Working Man's" Bow????? That there are now 2, a recurve and a longbow, for whichever "Style" the "Working Man" prefers...?????

I've never owned or even shot the Montana and cannot really figure out why.  It seems most archers like them, but I guess I just thought "recurve" when I think Bear.

It could also be the thought that a bow had to be expensive to be good...but we know that theory has been been proven foolish.

My montana was my favorite trad bow I've owned (not a whole lot that is). I got a smoking deal on one from big jims and ended up selling it in a moment of weakness. Now I'm on the search for another lefty

I received a Montana a month ago at a very good used price. It's 50lb at 28". I'm loving it too. It deffinitely  shoots where I look and is very smooth. It's marked 68" length on the limb.lol of course it's 64". I've not seen any miss marked before. I thought it was interesting. As for myself I think it's a very pretty bow. I think it's eye catching. But I've always like simpler more plain over fancy exotic anything.

Gotta love the Grizz, Montana, K'Mag, and Supermag 48.  I call the Supermag 48 and even K'Mag "the working man's shortbow" LOL.  Good solid performers.

I think it would look good as well. The other bow has light maple limbs and I thought it might be best to do the lighter limbs first. But it's really a toss up because I'll probably be hunting with the Montana more. If I can ever figure out how to post pics from my phone I'll share pics when I get it done.

I got my Montana about a month before hunting season last year. I picked up two of my recurves and shot them yesterday for the FIRST time since I got the Montana. Love that bow! I had shot one several times at a Cabelas store and could not get them to shoot for me. I finally bought one thinking I could figure it out eventually. I put my arrows across the rest and it was perfect. The arrows Cabelas had to try with the bow were definitely not proper for that bow.

I'll see what I can do kevsuperg'. I didn't realize I had to load them from phone to computer to host sight then post from computer. I don't have Internet at home but maybe I can get bro in law to assist me when I'm ready.lol Newhouse the wrong arrows would sure affect one for sure. I had a friend that bought a new recurve several years back. He hated it and said the crazy thing shot six to eight inches to the right every time. Even for his friends. He said something was wrong with it so he sold it to another friend. This friend also said it shot bad off for him too and agreed with the first one and sold it. I suppose someone got a very good deal on a nice recurve that wouldn't shoot straight when in reality all it needed was a proper spined arrow and point weight. It was a Hoyt.

Montana is a good bow!  I put fakeskins on mine too. The leather grip wrap had to go though. I did not like that at all.

First blood with my Montana.

That baby looks great, the cloth skins look better than the tape skins for sure. When I got my Montana a few years back I put a ****** string on that rascal and it performed as well as any one piece that I have shot.

Great bow.....but I'm a "working man" and have several customs....don't understand the term "working man".  Sometimes I work so much i don't have time to go hunting. ...does that count as a working man ?

The Grizzly got the nickname "the working man's bow" back in the day. So the point of the thread is is the Montana the longbow equivalent of the Grizzly

The joyous mystery of the traditional way is not a respecter of any particular bow.

Finding and securing such fulfillment is the pinnacle of reward.

I would be very interested in a bow that was bomb proof...every bow that I have right now would be in pieces after being hit by a bomb
