Made my first trip into the wilds of Quebec last week. Let me just say Tom P. runs an excellent camp and works very hard to give you the real deal bear hunt. The first night I was exhausted from the drive and freshening baits so I just took it easy. On Sunday, did the baits in the am and set up my tree safety belt and got ready to spend the evening on my stand. At 4 pm I drove to my spot called the "GLOVE". Got set up with my harness and my Therma-Cell........ready to wait!!
I was right near a small brook and just hearing the water and the birds, watching the reds and chipmunks was very calming..........7:30 pm, I catch some movement coming from the brook and low and behold it's a bear. Now when I first sat in this stand I remember Tom saying this spot was kissing close.....now I know why.
The bear has a belly that hangs down with long fur, and rounded shoulders......not huge but I deicide if I get the chance......
He walks to the back of the barrel and sits down......then looks right up at me. My platform is 7' off the ground and the bait is 8 steps from the base of the tree. Things are up close.....real close.
:campfire:
Ha Ron, that's where I shot my bear!! I had 11 different bears in 3 days on that stand :campfire: !!!!
The bear comes around and very slowly takes a piece of bait and runs about 20 yards away. Then again, same action. Each time he gets a bit more brazen. The 3rd time he takes the snack right out of sight........the bow comes of the hook!
I think this will end well!
Pics are great Ron! lol
:campfire:
In for the rest!
Bisch
Come on man!
:readit:
You're doing Great Ron, Keep it up!
:campfire: :campfire:
Aww c'mon the suspense is killing me :)
Sorry......had to mow some lawn. So, the bow comes off the hook and I just know he will be back. And here he comes, he advances to the bait and again looks right up at me, then takes a piece and turns to leave. I draw, anchor look for the front shoulder and then back some......release. Off he goes like a scalded dog with my arrow in his side.
I was as cool as could be before the shot.......now my whole body is shaking and before I could gather myself I hear a long drawn out bawl........the death moan.......he was dead in less than 15 seconds. I went and got help and in 45 minutes we had my first Trad harvest.
So it was 7-7-7, Seven feet up, seven steps from the tree and in the seventh hour. After starting in 1967 I took my first big game animal. Did it with a bow that was a tribute to my Uncle Herb who got me started and only just over a week after losing my Mother........It meant alot to me.
:bigsmyl:   :archer:

There will be photos, just gonna take a bit. Now some stats......Zipper ILF riser, Dryad static recurve limbs, 45# @ 29". Full length Carbon Express with 100 gr brass inserts and an ACE standard. Total .....600 gr. The bear, a boar was checked the next morning and came in at 147#. I learned to skin and bone one in a couple of hours.......I had excellent teachers.
Ron,
May this only be the beginning for you. Congratulations and I do hope that you took some pictures. :clapper:

Here's some info on this hunt. One thing that is different......it's hands on. You can help move stands if need be. You can help with the baiting. You can help with the skinning/butchering. You help in the kitchen, in fact one night everyone was going to hunt so they let me cook dinner..... :scared: and nobody got sick :biglaugh: You can drop off guys and pick them up. Blood trailing .....more eyes are needed some times. The whole deal is a great learning experience.
Congrat's on the bear. That's pretty rough being Bowdoc's helper for the whole week though. Were there any walleye biting?
Congrats. Well done.
Congrats Ron!! It's been a long road by the sounds of it, what an accomplishment, well done sir
Congrats!
Congrats Ron! I have not hunted the Glove but I have baited it many times. As said before, I could picture the whole thing. Tom runs a great camp in deed. Missed seeing Bowdoc last year because he was ill. Glad he is feeling well enough to get back up there. I got to see Bill Terry's bear on face book. Looks like a dandy! Glad you had a great hunt. Congrats again.

Congratulations Ron nice Bear I had a feeling you were going to get a Bear. I really did. Broke my heart I couldn't get there this year after last year. I came to love that place. Alone in the wilderness you and the bears no one near by either.LOL
I had a bear stick his head almost in my blind and had thoughts of how good he was going to be this year he was a nice one too. Action almost everyday with differant bears.LOL
I will echo the others. Congratulations. Fine accomplishment.

You got a name picked out for this bear? Maybe 'Icebreaker'?
Well done buddy!!
Awesome, congrats!!
Good for you Ron!!!!!!!!
Come on man!
Thanks to all for the congrat's and good wishes. It was a true thrill to be able to pull this off. A special thanks to all the guys on Quest #9. :notworthy: They all taught me a lot and showed me the ropes!!
Yow Ron -- that's great! Does it make up for the crappy deerhunting last season?
That's a beautiful bear Ron, congrats again.
I'll second Charlie's vote to put Ron up top.
Bob
i third that vote!
Come on man!
Congrats on a fine animal! I hope I can do that someday.
Wow just got caught up on this, congratulations Ron,.... nice Bear..!
Beautiful bear Ron!!! There's nothing like the north woods!!!! That smile says it all!!!
Just got back from the taxidermist.......a rug is in the works.
Congrats on a long awaited event. Nice looking bear.
Ron, that should make a fine looking rug with a nice thick coat. Unlike the bears that Bowboc usually arrows, the balder the better! Need to hear some stories and see some pics from your fellow Bear Quester's, I'm sure there's more to tell.
:campfire:

Congrats again Ron, it was awesome to be there for your first Trad kill, and a dandy at that!
