Title: staining bamboo
Post by: BUCKY on October 09, 2007, 09:03:00 PM
Has anyone stained bamboo limbs gray? I always see brown and was wondering if gray would take?

I think it would work. Use Fiebing's Leather Dye.You can get it from Tandy Leather. You might want to try it on a scrap piece first to see if you like the results.

Bucky, about any color will take. One of my personal bows is purple, one is tangerine.

I fine-sand the gloss off the boo and use aniline (powdered, water-based) dyes -- usually alternating moss green and mud brown for a nice camo effect -- and they work great. Moss green analine on boo gives a color very like live green boo. dave
