Fellers its getting that time again! Getting pictures of good bucks hitting the minerals, which in turn is putting blisters on my right hands fingers! This thread is always in my top 3 favorites of the year, so lets see them! What are taking to the woods this year? How about some specs as well, might help a beginner too.
Heres mine: (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb428/huskyarcher/13C94EA0-FBB1-4C14-A348-3E889BB112C5_zpsk1yneccb.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/huskyarcher/media/13C94EA0-FBB1-4C14-A348-3E889BB112C5_zpsk1yneccb.jpg.html)

I hunted all of 2014 with my Black Widow MA-ll Recurve and took 6 deer with it, using Goldtip 5575 wood grain traditional arrows and 3 blade 250GR VPA broadheads. It is 60" long and 62LBS @ my 31 1/2" draw.

This year 2015, I will be hunting with my Dale Stahl 2 piece take down Longbow. The bow is 62" long and 61LBS @ my 31 1/2" draw. I am using it with a modified Selway 5 arrow side mount quiver. If you look close you can see how I modified it by using a bracket that I got from Home Depot and mounted it to a Great Northern 5 arrow holder. I did not like the wide splayed arrow holder that came with the Selway. These camo arrows are Goldtip 5575 which are my summer time Groundhog hunting arrows tipped with 3 blade Snuffers and small game stoppers. In the fall the the quiver will be loaded with Goldtip 5575 wood grain traditional arrows and Black Diamond Delta 4 blade broadheads with 100 GR steel broadhead adapters.

Got this new Bear Kodiak Mag from Big Jim this year on a whim. Forgot how much fun these little bows are...
So, leaving the longbow at home and concentrating with this one this year...hopefully I'll get out a little more than last year.
Crazy work schedule only allowed about 4 days total....

I'm probably going to stick with a mild r/d bow I made and some nice cedars Gary Hall made for me. Here is on it's maiden hunt back in January for sika deer in Maryland (Unfortunately I never got a shot)

Also may take my Thunderstick Mag, 58", 53#s@ 26", GT 35/55s, 50 grain inserts, with adapter and 145 grain eclipses.

-
I'll be hitting the woods with my new 44# Javaman Elkheart shooting a easton 1916 with a 190 grain treeshark up front
-
Samick Red Stag I, Gold Tip 3555, 125 gr. as of yet to be settled on broadhead.
-
A custom Wild Horse Creek Mariah recurve 54#(1950's style). 50#@28.
I bought it as turkey bow but absolutely love the way it shoots. It's become quite the hog slayer.
I may use my Northern Mist Ottawa(also a 50's style), though. It's a custom, 49#@28, 60". It shoots and looks great,too.
Save some deer for me Dalton:)
-
Depending on where and what I'm hunting, I'll be using one of 4 or 5 bows in the 50-55# range-- Hill and Robertson longbows, ACS and Morrison Shawnee hybrids and/or Bear and Morrison Shawnee TD recurves -- shooting 550-650- grain Easton Axis carbon or Sweetland Forgewoods wood arrows tipped with Zwickey, Abowyer and Woodsman broad heads.
Killed an elk last fall with an ACS hybrid, Axis shaft and Zwickey 4-blade delta, a deer with a Shawnee recurve, forge wood shaft and Woodsman head, and turkey this spring with a Bear TD, Axis shaft and Woodsman head. Just like to mix it up a little.
:archer2:
-
Of course Jim! Looking forward to hunting with you and Mr. Langer this fall!
-
I'll be using my new Bear A-handle T/D with #1 limbs & Fred Bear Custom Recurve bowquiver.
Filled with cedar arrows that Tyler made, tipped with old green Bear Razorheads.
Tyler will be using his new Bear Montana longbow, with his Bear Razorhead tipped cedar arrows, in a Howard Hill backquiver.

I was in a pretty good spot if they were wallowing and rubbing mud on the bottom of the stand and on the bottom of the tree I was in!
-
Unless I pick up another silvertip or a silverfox, I will use the silvertip with canebrake skins and antler tips. I have had it for almost a year now, and it has treated me very well. Supposed to be around 62# at my draw, but I think it is a little less than that. Typically using mfx classic 340 shafts with 75 grain brass inserts and 175 grain broadheads. Usually tigersharks or 3 blade vpa heads, but sometimes snuffers and other times treesharks that are a little heavier.

Bisch, good luck in Africa. Never been there. I suspect there will be alot of carnage to come.

Some things never change. I have a Hill Cheetah (55#) that I have used for several seasons and a NM Shelton (53#)that I have hunted with for one year. I will be adding an additional NM Shelton (53#) in yew about December.

Big Jim 58" Thunderchild 50@28 pulled to almost 30. 30.75 inch 55/75 GT blems with 200 grain Deltas or 3 blade VPA. Thinking about adding some big Snuffers to the quiver this year too.
-
I'll be hunting with a 68" Shrew Hill, 52@28
(http://i62.tinypic.com/2wedqc5.jpg)
-
Unless something changes, I'll be carrying the same rig as last season: Toelke HS Whip TD, 62" and 50 lb at 26". Arrows will be self finished Surewood fir, tail tapered and 570 grains wearing 200 gr heads, Grizzly Kodiaks, Instincts and VPA 1 1/4 Terminators, carried in a Great Northern Kickback strap on. A SafariTuff fletch cover hides the chartreuse 4" 4 fletch and white crown. This setup has great PBS medicine and worked beautifully for me last year and this spring.

I am kind is set in my ways, Pigger has been good to me more often then not, don't see any reason to change until one of us gets too old to complete their part of the hunt.

Some very nice animals Walt. With that kind of PBS Mojo, and unless you want to make pigger jealous(LOL), you had better stick with her. Nice going Walt.

Good looking bows fellas. Here's mine for this year. Still looking for my first trad kill after two seasons and decided to go ahead and switch from recurve to longbow. I'll be shooting a Flatwoods Custom R/D, 64", 47@28. Shooting some old school small diameter Browning brand carbons, 60-70# spine (not sure the actual number cause it's wore off), that I dug out of my dad's closet, with 190 Interceptors up front for around 550-575 gr total. Also have a couple of old 100 gr 4blades I modified for small game and a couple of Forge Converta Blunts behind a 125 gr field tip. My backup bow is the Ben Pearson Hunter in the middle of the last picture. It's 58", 42@28 and tuned up with the same arrows.

I will be taking my brand new Centaur Dark Matter 62" 57@30 with me to Idaho in three weeks and I will be deer hunting with it back home. Shooting Axis tipped with abowyer bone heads and centaur battle axes. Even put together a special quiver for it, darker dyed rawhide with black sinew and black parts.

got excited. double post

This will be year 4 for this bow, above were the original project photos...before she got furnished. It now has great karma, with 5 elk in 3 years to it's name (two cows), and a 4/5 pass-thru rate.
Never the cutest, Originally she was a failed project that I resurrected (with the advice from tradgangers) by cutting the riser in half the longwise and re-gluing. That year I took my first bull with a bow I made, having always used the creations of others to do it, a great 315 bull.
I should take a better photo... but here she is. Really excited about this years set up, seems very fast, hitting really hard and most importantly, tuned very well and shooting very accurately. I took some weight off by going away from the Ad Hammer heads and to regular trads. What an arrow!
3 piece 77#(ish) r/d, Ad trads, 125 gr adapter, 250 Cutthroats, 700 grn total weight.
