I was fortunate enough to take this outstanding black bear with Wilderness Family Outfitters locate on Wollaston Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. I shot him at 7 yards from the ground after a 5 minute standoff waiting for him to turn to give me a shot. It even included a bluff charge. It was witnessed by my guide Jim Brennan and my buddy. Took him with my 52 pound TallTines Recurve, Beman arrow and 200 grain Wensel Elite head. The bear weighed 336 pounds on a scale, will square just over 7 feet and has a B&C skull. This is the second bear I have taken in two trips over three years in this concession. The first, back in 2013, went 18 15/16".

Congrats on a great bear. How well did you keep it together when he bluff charged?
What an adrenaline rush! Awesome animal sir!
Congrats, that's a dandy. If I have a bucket list, black bear from the ground is on it. Can you describe what was going through your mind during the 1-2 secs of the bluff charge?
very nice
When he bluffed I really wasn't thinking anything. I was concentrating on his middle the whole time, burning a laser right through him while waiting for him to turn to give me a shot. My mind was clear. After things settled a bit I checked behind me to see where the guide and my buddy were if something were to go bad, took a deep breath and notice my arrow on the shelf was not even quivering. Then I thought, "I am holding together really well, let's finish this thing." I really surprised myself with my own composure. I asked my buddy if it looked like I knew what I was doing when I was standing there and he told it was awesome to watch.
