Watched an episode of the man from UNCLE tonight .
One of the bad guys was an archery champion . The bow he was using to hunt down Illya Kuriakin was a deflex longbow . It was strung backwards and he was using the pinch the arrow draw method .
funny. . do you recall which episode it was ?

How about this one from Exodus?

I notice things like that all the time. My girlfriend always says I should just watch whatever it is we're watching, and stop nit picking.
You'd think they'd do some research before they make these TV shows, and movies, but I suppose most people don't even notice.

The "all too obvious" elastic strings bug me (like in the Hunger Games series). Amazing the shots they make holding all of 1.2 lbs.
:banghead:

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. as a trad teenager.
And yet you still have those who look to TV and movies for facts, true history, and "the real way it was done."
I shall ever shake my head in wonder.

Here's another bow strung backwards that is pretty funny...

That's just... weird. :-) He has outstanding form though.
There being no archers around to school me, I strung my first "bought" recurve backwards for a year - and used the pinch draw - until my older brother earned his archery merit badge at scout camp, came home and explained that I did NOT have a longbow, and showed me the split finger. Apparently, I was qualified to be an archery advisor for a lot of films before that.
At least you had an excuse, Jim. Until your brother set you straight, you didn't have the info available to you.
I don't know what's going on with the movie and TV people, they've got all the information at their fingertips. I know I'd want to be as accurate as possible, if it was me. Maybe they think some bows just look "cooler" strung backwards. :rolleyes
I've seen some foolish things done in the movies with modern weapons too.

Funny thing , one of the stupidest shows out there has it right .
The show is Once Upon A Time . The character Snow White has a nice self bow , a back quiver , self nocked arrows that have tied on fletching that are as nice as you will see made by any of the finest arrow makers . Trade points that are perfect .
When she shoots her form is perfect . Makes me think that she shoots in real life .
The character Robin Hood looks to do it right as well .
I don't watch much tv, I make it a point to not watch bowhunting and fishing shows. I googled that once upon a time, "operation mongoose' episode show banner, two finger draw, head cocked funny, bow straight up and holding the arrow on the wrong side of the bow while riding on her straight index finger. Now I know where the neighbor girl got that notion.
