Not to long ago there was an article in one of the hunting magazines, the author had ask the question of a group of hunters ( something to the effect ) "If you could kill a world record buck but it would cost you a year of your life would you? "
Give up a year for a world record deer, or a year with my kids....ummm, no way. Can't eat horns, and I don't like my picture taken anyway. Family is more important for me. Some may spend there life chasing after one, I just ain't made like that. Not taking away from anyone who'd want to though, maybe to them that is like family.
This reminds me of the jokes about finding a jenie in a bottle, getting any wish, and then ending up getting scr@wed some way. :smileystooges:
I believe we would all love to ethically and legitimately get a world's record where we could grab the fame and fortune.
But hey, I'm almost over the hill and cannot afford a day, much less a year.
If I remember correctly, most willing to give up a year were the younger.
LOTS of "No Ways" on there! This Is Good, but it all depends on Ones Priorities as well.
Had this Question been asked when I was 20 and "Didnt-Have-A-Care-In-The-World" I just Might have Answered Differently!! :archer:
Yeah, What GR Said! :biglaugh:
Do I get to pick the year? :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I voted "no". I'd rather sit in the woods a year and see nothing then to trade it for any trophy rack.
No way for me, I wouldn't give up a year with my family, and like Mike said, I'd rather sit in the woods a year and see nothing, that to trade that yar for the trophy.
My immediate response is, of course, no way. But I guess if I knew for certain that I was going to live until I was 110 I might be willing to spare a year or two for a couple of record mulies. Then again, depending on my health I might have some serious second thoughts about the deal around the time I turned 108.
Heck No. I killed a Boone & Crockett one year and it was a PIA. Can't imagine what a hassle a world record would be.
heck I don't even buy green banana's
ROTFL now that's funny if you think about it. :clapper:
I have eleven reasons to say "No Way!!". They are my wife, my two children and eight grandchildren. The children have grown up fast and the grandchildren seem to be growing up even faster!
Bill
Well, this makes one think just a bit....
but- seeings how I'm 38, had a viral infection in the heart causing a minor heart attack 4 years ago, lost my dad when he was 56, (Heart), his dad was 60 (heart) and his brother (my uncle)
had a heart attack and survived.... plus I've got 3 kids to raise, my future is very uncertain so I'm taking the extra year and no fortune or fame. Who do I contact about the voucher for the extra year???
As excited as I get when I see any buck up close, I couldn't imagine seeing a record buck with in 10 yards. I'd probably lose more than one year from the racing heart any way, so i say yes.. I will trade a year.
I love bowhunting, more than I do the results of my efforts. But I'd give up a couple of work days for a crack at one!...LOL
First we must assume by giving up one year of ones life, it has nothing to do with being in the BIG HOUSE by illegal activities to harvest such an animal. :D
Though I would not because nothing comes close to being with my family, and to loose a full year would be out of the question, I can see the point of those who would.
I guess it comes down to dollars and cents.
What does the average Joe, better yet the upper 80% on Tradgang make a year and what would they make the year and many more to come after killing the world record.
During my second marriage sure....but not this time around...
Lifes to short to give any of it Up.... Hell ever deer I have taken is My World Record...
As pointed out by others we don't know how many of those years we have. If I was guaranteed 90 years I may consider it but I may hate myself at 89. The upside is that with the $Million$ dollar buck you could possibly afford to stay home with family and spend more time with them than I do now. When you think of it you're sacrificing 250 days a year (or more) for a whole lot less, so in 20 years you've lost 4.56 years of your life working for someone else....hmmmm.
heck ya!! and I buy Howlers green banana's too by the way..
Montana has to many other critters to hunt besides I tend to spend all my time hunt w-tail and not near enough time hunting elk.
Does it have to be a "deer" or can it be something even cooler like a Mtn Goat or one of the four rams?
He!!, you put your life on the line every time you go into goat country much the less just a lousy year!
YOU can't eat horns!! Aint no way in h@!! I would give up a year!!

That almost brings a teer to my eye. You said it all right there..
If the year was at the end of my time, than yes. I live life to the fullest and live it day by day. I may get hit by a bus tomorrow. I have enjoyed my time here so far and I think it would be a kick to kill a world record, funny thing is I doubt I would enter it. I would just be happy to have killed such a great animal. Shawn
If you've ever seen any Roger Raglin videos, you know he would. Roger acts like every deer he kills is a world record. :biglaugh: Sometimes Roger is OK.
NO---I cant eat the antlers.
I wouldn't trade a year, but it reminds me of a comedian's comment. " Yeah, I smoke and I love it! They say it takes 5 years off of your life, but that's off the END of your life, and those are some pretty crappy years anyway."
I would do it for sure just due to finacial gain possible from Harvesting such a magnificent animal with a bow I made from a stick. I would be able to provide for my family much better. Being able to not worry about the cost of college or anything realy. And who knows like shawn said you never know when your time is up. Heck I may not even make it home from work tonight. Kinda ruff to think about but it's life and death. Death is like paying taxes you gotta do it sometime. Thats my 2 cents take it or leave it.
heck i'm trying to figure out how to gain and extra few years not give them away. my family means a lot more to me than any whitetail deer regardless of his size.
The result are very much what I would expect here...I wonder what they would look like on the Bowsite?
I'd like to shoot #2 and get a bonus year :saywhat:
In MY book, I already have a number of World Records and I didn't give up anything but sweat and accelerated heartbeats for them! In fact, just about everything I shoot is a world record for me...or I wouldn't shoot it!
Too Short
With my luck they'd take the year off and I'd end up dieing the day before I actually killed and throw the universe into a paradox and bring on the Apocalypse. So I'll have to think about it for a second. NOT I have a 4 year old that I want as many years with as possible and heck my wife ain't that bad a gal either. :biglaugh:
Ummmmm let me think about it for a second.......
NOPE!
I look at the picture above of the 8th dwarf; and if I saw that elk while hunting I would think it was a world record.
I have seen whitetails that I thought were world records; and bears; and muledeer.
If I KNEW I was making a deal to get a world record; what fun would the hunt be?
If I shot a world record; I probably wouldn't know it until it was taped; retaped; taped again; and by then I would be thinking about next year anyway.
I tell you what I DID do; I DID catch the first record book fish of the millenium. I did.
I looked up all the native fishes; found one with no record; waited until the correct date; and then went and caught a 6 3/8 inch 1.7 oz chiselmouth. The average size of these fish is 10 to 12 inches. I was the first to apply for a record status on it.
So- I caught the first record book fish of the millenium.
I also opened the door for a 12 year old to catch a bigger one; and get HIS name in the record book; and in the newspapers; and it was JUST the way I planned it.
Didn't cost me a day off my life either.. cough.. cough... hack... aggggggggh (falls over dead). :)
no way, I love life too much, who would want to give up a year of hunting and shooting?
I'm one of the 16 year giver uppers...I'm going to live to like 120 anyway....so I think 119 years of hunting should do me just fine...
Someone told me you can hunt in heaven too and the season never ends
It has benn proven that over 70% of our population has a rough time in later years and if it is at the end, than why not. My family means a lot to me too, but I mean a lot to them and they would agree with me, as long as it made me happy! Shawn
I'd trade 1990 for just about ANYTHING else!
Like some one said earlier"if I could pick the year". The year my first wife ran off with someone else and took my 9 year old son across the country with her comes to mind. Any other time, Nope!
First of all, being a celebrity looks like a disgusting way to live. Next, everyone is going to knock themselves out trying to prove you cheated, baited, shot at night etc. And third, I am comfortably retired, hunt all I want to and treasure every second I have away from my former shift work existence in a power plant.
That's a big NO SIR!! I've yet to take an animal. I don't want my first one to be a world record. Besides, I've served in 3 campaigns in my military career and there is only so much time I am willing to give now! My last one cost me a year and a half from my family. Again, NO SIRREE!
No thanks. whenever im huntin and i see a deer and i decide im going to try and shoot him my heart goes off to the races, reguardless the size or sex. And that is why i hunt, not for the "trophy kill" but im not saying i wouldnt shoot i nice 10 over a doe :saywhat: ....Curtis
Heck yeah, As long as it was one off of the front end! :biglaugh:
Got plenty of them I can get rid of! :biglaugh:
It's those back end ones that get pretty precious!
LD
LOL Not fer nothin but if any of us actually did shoot a world record the related stress that could well come with it may just take that yr anyway.
Guess I'll worry about it if one steps out and offers me a shot......worry about shot placement that is not if it'll shorten my life, that could happen today on my way home like it did to a friend of mine last Thur evening,he was laid to rest yesterday....live for today, tomorrow isn't a given
Absolutely not. Bowhunting may be my favorite thing but I'm afraid it isn't the only thing. Life is a gift too precious-every second of it. The only things I'd do that for are my sons. Besides, I'm bound to get lucky if I keep showing up. Grant
Not a chance!!! It's about the hunt and being able to hunt. Besides that what would have to look forward to after that. If it's only about killing the biggest......YOUR DONE!!!!
HECK NO!!!!!
ttt
No because I might have died yesterday.
That depends on "which" year of my life! LOL
Mike
I think i'm the youngest here and i still wouldnt do it!!!
Eric, read my post. I would not do it for fame or money but just tohave been in the presence of such a great animal and being able to kill him. I have let me family read this and they understand and being family say if it makes ya happy than we are happy! Shawn
At 59 I can not afford to lose a year, don't know how many more years I have left. Just enjoying what time I have left and 13 grandkids.
Brian,
That elk of Paul's I think is a 220 bull:
Paul has the advantage of making EVERYTHING he kills LOOK like a world record! :bigsmyl: :biglaugh:
I'm on the other end of the spectrum with Biggie..if I kill something large it just looks normal sized cause I am so big. If I killed a moose it would probably look like a shetland pony if I were standing next to it.
Giving me a world record buck still doesn't mean I earned it! If I don't earn it, it isn't that special.
no chance I have killed some Big Deer and NO life is worth way more than 15 min of fame or 1 deer no matter what size :knothead:
It's not about the trophy or the record.... I said no way and I would have given the same answer 22 years ago!
Ray-I can relate! LOL :) 6-3 240 :(
If I were too shoot a world record bull elk; how much of that elk would I get to eat... as opposed to if I shot an average cow elk? I mean everyone would want some of the meat from a world record elk- right?
Me thinks I will skip shooting a world record- for that reason alone! :)
Whew.... the preasure is off !
