I am pondering setting up a hunt for late October next year in Southern Indiana. Hunt during the primetime, make bows the rest of the time. It'll be on public land, camping in tents or campers if you got 'em. Non res tags are $150 with each additional tag costing $24 this year. You have a reasonable chance at a deer. We have some big ones but you will work for them on the public land. Small game will also be a possibility too, 5 day non res license is $31 this year. Turkey season will also be open. Either bow or firearm depending on how late in October we do it, $120 non-res. Here's our Hunting Guide (http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/huntguide1/hunting1.htm)
I'm thinking a 5 day hunt will be the action. Who would be interested?

I'm interested. Let me know if it is going to happen. Jason
-
I am interested John.
-
John I might be able to come over for a couple of days to help you with the bowbee. Have to see how the schedule goes. I'll be putting in for NH moose again and will be gone if I get drawn. At any rate I have an extra bow horse you are welcome to use.
-
John, I'd be interested if the Ferret and your old buddy Hackbow were there, especially if the hunt was centered over the weekend to save vacation days. Could be a GREAT camp.
-
John I would definatly like to be in on this one! Please let me know the dates and location when there available. I grew up in parke county IN and have the lifetime license so I'm ready!

-

i would be interested where abouts in s. indiana would this take place?

I'm interested... Got a bamboo backed hedge blank I bought 2 years ago I've never touched... I need visuals and hands on to understand... This would help big time...

Wow, nice response. Hackbow says he'll come. I have a few other guys around here that'll be able to make it also.
I'm thinking a Friday through Wednesday kind of thing. Somewhere in the Hoosier NF probably. Lots of space to roam. I know the area near Monroe Reservoir best but have hunted southwest of there a lot too in Martin and Orange Counties. I'll scout out a spot and keep everyone in the loop. There is a Wilderness area on Lake Monroe that is real nice. It's called Deam Wilderness Area. Here\\'s a link (http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/hoosier/docs/history/ccdw_history.htm) It is nice to access some of the more remote areas by boat. Good fishing too but that may be a bit over ambitious :)
Anyhow, everyone who is interested, please send me an email at [email protected] and I'll get a list going.
Thanks,
John

I think for now Myself, hunt3r, and Sharkey1 is interested, we are from the Southern Johnson County Indiana area. Sounds like a good time.
-
I'll be there.
-
I'm thinking my brother-in-law and one or both sons would like a short trip...
-
I am interested, I live in fayette County and have wanted to try to hunt HNF for some time, but had no idea where to start. maybe I can talk my Dad into going.
-
It sounds like a great getaway hunt for 1 or a couple TN boys.
I am tentative (due to not predicting the future that far in advance)>

Minuteman and I will find a spot in the next couple months. I'm thinking the last weekend in October. I'm gonna just set it up and come what may. It will be pretty informal. The Hoosier NF is pretty big so we ought to be able to spread out pretty well. Rut should be gearing up too about that time. Stay tuned...
-
John, unless I am off on another God-forsaken job out of state, I think that me and flatstick and maybe a few other "West T" boys might amble down that way....keep us informed! Thanks, Mike
-
you betcha.....! i'll drop you a line.

John,
Some place else you might consider is starve hollow. Very nice campgrounds with electricity and inside showers and facilities. Washington-jackson state forest is accessable from the campgrounds. It's truely a very nice little known state campground.
It's in Vallonia,IN. There is also a very nice lake and plenty of deer. It's just a thought
-
I agree with Night Hawk and I do not believe it will be as crowded at the Hoosier national Forest around Lake Monroe.
-
Even if I can't get the money up for a deer tag I wouldn't mind heading over for small game and the bow building. If I can work it out I'll be there.
-
Small game seems reasonable and the bow building sounds good. That just might happen for me.
-
Not sure about the bow building, but I'd be up for trying to hunt HNF or another public spot. Sounds like a good time.

That sounds cool, I would love to make that....keep us posted.

Count me in.
-
Sounds like a plan! Let me know if I can help with anything prior to the hunt.
-
I'd like to join in. Sounds like a lot of fun. Let me know the details. dino

By the way if we primitive camp in the Deam we have to limit it to 10. they don't alllow groups bigger than that. Also we have to bring in all our water and pack out all our waste.
-
Sorry guys to interrupt here, but you will have to buy two $150 licenses before you can buy the $24 tags. I speak from experience, thought that it would be like that but it isn`t. The IN regulation booklet is one of the worst jobs I`ve seen lately. I killed two IN deer last year and one will make Pope and Young, but they want you to kill more does and rip you off. I prefer TN, a real good deal for NR for all woodland games!
-
John I'd like to go. I may even be able to convince one or two members of the Wabash Valley Elk Chasers Society to come as well.

Thanks again for all the interest. This is gonna be interesting at least :) I have an email list and will add everybody that hasn't gotten it yet.
As far as the tags, don't buy the additional archery tag. I think if you buy a bonus antlerless tag it will be $24. Editorial comments belong on your own thread :)
-
Hey John, please add me to the list in case I loose track of this thread.
-
Hi John,
Sounds like a great time. I am sure interested. I also think I can talk some others from my area into a week like that. Any information will be appreciated.

Dang, sorry I missed this. I am still planning on this. We may be doing a campground instead of the more rugged variation I originally planned. I will post more info in a couple weeks. Thanks for the kick :)
