It's close and I haven't heard much chatter!! Who's gearing up and what will you be carrying on stand??? I can't make it, so I have to live it through the guys who are going
No ones going to Bear Quest this year?? :dunno:
I am .........I'm ready......well almost. Taking my Zipper ILF with Dyrad Static limbs [2 sets] and a 2 pc. Mohawk longbow as back up. Been shooting the close shots and looking at Bears to have an idea on judging their size.......getting excited.
Idk, Ron... I think I'd be taking that new Bear T/D!!!
Alittle "Bear" MOJO, for a Bear!!!!!
If I had one,AND I was going, that'd probably be what I'd take. I shot Bowdocs '72 model while I was up there.....WOW!! Good luck Ron!!
I'm getting ready. Taking my Fedora Ishi longbow with some arrows that Mike Shaw and I made a couple years back. My back up bow will be a real nice two piece static recurve with snake skin backs; not sure who made that one, but they sure did a good job of it. I'm still unsettled on what type of camouflage to wear; anyone have any suggestions? I've got flecktarn, Asat (but it looks like fall), all kinds of plaid, and of course my USMC digital.
Tom
I think just about any camo will be fine a long as it's silent. Fleece or wool is what I'm thinking.
I have tons of wool/wool camp, was worried about the temperature being too hot to wear wool.
You guys will have a blast. I wish I could go every year. You are right about the camo Ron. I would stick with darker colors but I think blue jeans and a dark colored t-shirt would probably be fine to be honest. Bears don't have the greatest eyesight in the world. Don't forget a thermo-cell or two and practice that 3-5 yard shot. And don't forget pictures and stories for us less fortunate when you get back.
I'm preparing for next year as there Havnt been any contenders on the st.judes auction!
It will be very hot there. I'd advise against wool I'd personally take cotton or nylon light weight stuff as it will be quiet and keep the bugs off. One of the guys that was there the year I was just wore camo bug netting with nothing underneath.. Get a thermacell if you don't have one. It was worth it's weight in gold. Oh and earplugs or headphones if you have a hard time bunking up with snorers!
Good Luck Ron and Tom. I look forward to your stories and pictures.
I'm getting ready too. I dug out my Super Kodiak as my back up but I am shooting it so well, it's going to be my primary bow. It's also got some great Mojo. I took my first trad deer with it on my 3rd sit with a stick bow. He was 6.5+ years old and 250#s. I just don't ever really shoot it and don't know why!
Wish I was getting ready. I went to BQ5 and have been wanting to get back.
Good luck guys! Can't wait for the stories. Last year was a little cooler than the one before. Not cold though. A light jacket was plenty. It is pretty green up there, and pretty dark around the stands.
Good luck the last two times I went I used two thermacells b/c at the time the first one runs out is about time for the bears to come in so I brought two and turned on the second one about an hour after the first to cut down any movement at a critical time.Wish I was going.Kip
That's twice now I've heard to bring two Thermacells. Looks like I'm heading back out to Wally World to buy another one tomorrow.
Yeah. I went 2 years ago and also staggered starting the thermacells. When the first went out, you could actually see the wall of black flies move closer!
Sounds like a lot of fun. I wish you guys the best of luck.
I'm looking forward to the pictures and stories. :campfire:
Yepper, Gettin close! I'll have my trusty Roy Hall Apache LB and Bamboo arrows. Kip is right on the two thermacells, always gotta have a back up!
LD
What a disappointment for me can't get there this year either was hoping I'd heal up by the time, that's now and no where near healed with a bunch of issues yet to get fixed. Concussion trying to heal from that has me sideways yet unable to drive very far. I have been dreaming of that bear from last year all year.Thought I could have gotten it in but I'm just fooling myself.Darn it all.
Good Luck guys.
Bait trip # 2 is this Wed-Sunday Bill Terry from Ct. will be heading up with me.BUGS were waiting for myself and close friend Brian Vincent this past week on 1st bait trip,USUALLY there are NO bugs on 1st bait trip :-) So by end of next week they should be in full force,THATS GOOD the more bugs and hotter it is the Bear's seem to like it.I did read years ago that the HOT weather amped up Bear's to feed.
Tommy, good luck to you and your 'crew'. We are all aware of the time and effort you put in to make the "Bear Quest" hunts one of the best out there. The added pleasure of having the 'little guy from Seattle' in camp is second to none.
My hat is off to you.
Denny
Awesome guys!!! Good luck to all!! It was warm during BQ 6 and we saw a ton of bears!! Hey Tom, is Ole Seattle Slew heading up this year???
Just went and got a back up Therma-cell......better safe than sorry.

Two is One and One is None. Always have a backup.
You guys have fun and be safe. Almost made it to BQ9 and already planning for BQ10.

You won't regret that decision. If the bugs were really thick I wound up running both at the same time. One hanging in the tree directly behind me, head high and one on the platform of the treestand tucked under the seat. Be careful with the Watkins bug dope, good stuff but it'll melt a raincoat and take the finish off your bow if you're not careful.
Hey Mike, I'm planning on making it next year. Still early, but think I'm in!
Myself & Bill Terry arrived back at my house from 2nd bait trip 11:30 this morning drove up 8 PM wed night, marathon run 1150 miles driving, approx 20 hours setting stands and freshing baits.Bears are HUNGRY on land AND on water baits !! Can;t wait until next weekend.
Don "Bowdoc" Ward AKA "Seattle Slough" will be in camp !!
I'm excited.......shot today and I'm shooting well. The Zipper is ready........I hope I'm up to the task...lol!
 I'm hoping you clean up Ron and get the bear early enough to get some quality Fishing in!!!
:biglaugh: Me to........
Man, I'm exited and I'm not even going this year, lol. Can't wait for the stories!
Good luck Ron,I hope you get a "good" one.
Y'all guys have fun up there, and tell Bowdoc and Tom that Bisch said Hi!
Bisch
No pressure Ron, but remember we already have a "bear miser" in the club :goldtooth:
Should be bear "misser" not "miser" :knothead:
Sounds like the baits are being hit and licked clean........hope'n for the best!
Ron you get one and with luck i will get one in Sept
 You gotta a Deal!!
Did some bare shafting and fletched up some new arrows today, my VPA's are shaving sharp.... I'm ready!
You guys have me all sorts of excited for you.
My guess Greg is Ron had you beat in the broadhead sharpening contest by a few weeks
He probably did! I went overboard though. I have 6 knives and 10 broadheads that'll shave! I'm hoping to only need 1 head but I'd rather have extra!
Greg, what's your goto bow this year?
I'm using a Bear Super Kodiak. It was going to be my back up for my Elkheart but I'm shooting it do well, it's going to be the primary.
WooHoo, the adventure begins tomorrow! Tomorrow I fly to BWI to meet up with Jay, then we're off!
LD
Good luck to all of you guys. Greg I'm pulling for you buddy. Sounds like you are all in for a great year.
Good luck LD, and all the rest!
Bisch
Go get a bigun , hope you got 2 sets of ear plugs if you are rooming with Jay!!!!
I keep checking the weather, looks like it'll be mid 70's and above! Should be a great week!

Best of luck to all you Bear Quester's. Been there for four of them and working real hard to make next year number five. Be safe out there.

Hey guys, Tommy's right hand man from Seattle was flying in today. The games are ready to begin. Good luck to everyone.
Mike, it looks slim, but perhaps I can link up with you for next year.

The weather forcast keeps changing but right now it looks like 4 dry hot days and a few days 50% chance of rain. I'll take that for sure.
One of my favorite "selfies"

Great times for sure!
So, I just realized I packed my orange vest with my gun hunting gear and that's now 2 states away. I'm going to try and borrow one or hope Gander Mountain has something in stock on my way up Friday. If someone has an extra I would be forever in your debt if you could bring it for me to borrow ;)
Go get em guys...
One more sleep then off to the "bush".........
I know I've already said it, but good luck again Ron, and have a good time.
