Gents I have the zippered jacket that is way to big after loosing 50lb. Can I shrink the thing without ruining it? If so what would the best way to do this?
Thanks,
Cory
What size is it? You could always sell it and buy a proper fitting model.
I can't help but think the zipper would get a bit crunched up if you shrunk your wool down enough to make up for 50lbs.
Congrats on the healthy living by the way!!
Google "felting" you'll have to replace the zipper but you'll have a way warmer piece of clothing.
I had an XXL Asbell zippered jacket that was to large. I just washed it on gentle in the washing machine and let it dry naturally. It shrunk it down to about the normal XL size. Seemed like it made the weave of the will a bit tighter too which was nice.
Be careful...shrinking a garment is an uncontrolled thing.....natural fibers don't always react consistently.
The body may shrink one way, while the sleeves shrink another. I can honestly say that I have never purposely shrunk wool with satisfactory results.
My wife has purposefully shrunk wool using a clothes dryer. She washed it normally and did some "control drying" in the dryer. She checked it frequently as she was drying to make sure.
However, the garment had buttons and not a zipper.
Take it to a tailor and have it recut for about $10.
The "good" news about weight loss, you'll get it back later.
Thanks guys maybe it may hit the trade blanket at Compton and I can get the correct size. I'm treading on thin ice since the wife gifted it to me and she pays pretty close attention. Maybe I can pull the wool over her eyes with a good bait and switch! :saywhat:
