Title: I think I'm done for a while.
Post by: bear bowman on May 26, 2015, 08:14:00 AM
I've been suffering from terrible bow arm elbow pain. It's getting to the point where it hurts all the time now. I think I'm going to hang it up shooting for a few weeks and try to heal.

Smart man have to listen to your body. I had shoulder pain that lasted 3 months after late bow season last year. I shot very little and am back in the saddle again.

i strained/slightly tore a tendon in my elbow back during January or so. Haven't drawn a bow since February, until yesterday. good news is, i put 'em right where i was looking from 25-30 yards in short order. give it a rest and it'll come back to you quickly!

I hear ya, been battling this for over a year and a half now. Last year was so bad it would wake me up at night. I had to quit shooting winter league this year after 1 month. Now whatever i do seem's to aggravate it. I wear a elbow strap now when i shoot, seem's to help some. Stinks since i really like shooting traditional bow's. I have not shot a dozen arrow's in the past 3 1/2 month's. Questioned the doc. about a cortisone shot, may do if that is the last resort.

When I got tendonitis I was told to ice it, don't use the arm for anything strenuous for 8 weeks.  I would be the one armed man for two weeks, then go do something like shingle the garage or chop wood, and get blamed for playing tennis or shooting my bow, when it came back.  Finally, I did the 8 weeks thing and it went away.  When I tore a muscle when exercising,  they also said that there was nothing to do but wait. I waited for a half a year and even at the end of that, I cut my bow weight from over 80 to less than 40 pounds for a season.

I have tendonitis in both elbows. At one point, I was like you, having severe pain and unable to shoot at all. Steroid shots in the elbow joint helped, but rest was crucial. It took several weeks rest as well as physical therapy to get back on track. Do what your doctor and therapists say and DON'T RUSH IT! Dropping bow weight for a time is a good idea, also.
