Title: Lam Bow Questions
Post by: Dan_da_man on October 08, 2007, 11:44:00 PM
My buddy asked me a question about the bow he is building and couldn't answer it for him so I came to you guys (and gals). The bow materials are for a 68" longbow but he wants a 66" bow so my question to you is how much weight should he expect to gain by cutting the materials shorter?

Please let me know if you need more info.
Danny

6-7 pounds is what I would expect to gain on my hybrid bows.  Mine are 60"-62" though.  I would think it would be a little less on a longer bow with longer working limbs but that is only a guess.  See what others say.  Chad

Yep 6-7 should be pretty close.

It depends on which ends of the tapered laminations he cuts off. If you cut the thick part before you splice, only about 3 lbs. If you cut the small ends about 5 to 7#s.
