Title: Is There a DIY for a Stringer??
Post by: Nala on May 15, 2015, 08:14:00 PM
Hey all,

I need to make a new stringer.  I have one, but I HATE it.  It's the kind that fits over the limb and has the rubber piece that sits flat on the top of the limb and the other end just slips onto the end of the lower limb.  Every time I have to fool with this thing, I HATE it.  It's just such a pain in the HIND END.

A couple weeks ago when I got the pass along longbow to try it came with a stringer that was awesome.  It was the kind you use on Hill style longbows where the ends just sits right on the end of each nock.  I tried it with my recurve and it works equally as well.

So...I thought I'd ask and see if anyone has a DIY to make one of these as I don't want to buy one unless I have to.

If anyone has a cheap one to sell...I'd do that too.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to make one?

Thanks

Nalajr

Check out a webster bowstringer, I know braveheartarchery, a sponsor, carries them. Not overly expensive and will last a LONG time.

I use a length of 550 cord with appropriately sized bowline knots for the loops.

Hope that helps.

I'll look up a Bowline Knot.

IN fact I will trade someone my stringer that Bought at 3-Rivers for a stringer that I am talking about.  That's how much I LOATHE this stringer.

Thanks

Buy a "tillering" stringer from 3 rivers and cut the top leather stall the size you need to fit your tip and still get the string on the nock.
Been using these as stringers for over a decade would never use any other stringer.

Note- I have used this stringer for recurves but my longbow (shown in the video) gets the old push pull method.

Another vote for the Webster from braveheart. Works great on my 68 inch bows.

Its not rocket science so Ive made my own from 1 1/4" nylon webbing for years. Just sew a big enough pocket on each end using B-50 for thread.............. very similar to a webster but in yellow so I dont lose it as easy. Make one for every bow. Earth/dark colored stringers are a communist plot, easy to lose so you keep buying more..............
