Title: sight windows, arrow shelf of various bows
Post by: beyondmyken on May 08, 2015, 06:55:00 AM
How much of a difference does the length of a sight window make?   There is quite a variation with different styles of bows.  I have an older Fedora take down that has the most generous sight window  of the bows I won and seem to shoot it the best.  But like a lot of you, I keep trying new bows periodically.

Also, some bows have a groove for the arrow in the shelf.  What are your thoughts?

I shoot instinctive and won't take a hunting shot over 20yds. so it really is not an issue to me one way or the other. Never notice how tall the window is when I'm shooting.

a sight window can make a big difference depending on your shooting style.  i shoot split finger/ my bow vertical and must have at least a full 4" sight window to get a clear aim picture.  the smaller the window, your anchor has to be higher in the face, bow canted, etc. to aim properly.

I like the longer sight windows. It's a personal preference thing, but when I pick up a bow with a very small sight window, I "see" a chunk of the riser in an area that my mind is used to not seeing it, and it messes with me.
