Trying to get my Holm Made River Runner tuned in. I started out with my nock point set at 1/2 and was showing nock high so I lowered it to 7/16 and still showing nock high.
Do you think I'm getting a false reading or should I keep going down?
I shoot split finger
Are you shooting off the shelf? If so, I would go up to 3/4 of inch or 20 mm. It is not uncommon for most archers shooting off an arrow rest to have the nock height at 16 to 20 mm above zero or over 3/4 of an inch. Off the shelf you may need a higher nock set. Your results of the nock high sound like you are getting deflection off the rest or shelf and an false reading. Go higher, shoot a bare shaft and compare impact to a fletched shaft.
Put some lipstick on your shelf edges and see if you are getting good arrow clearance. That will tell you the story bro....
You can also use Desonex foot powder spray (powder, not the clear) on the end of the fletching to check and see if you are getting interference with the quills and shelf area. Off the shelf I found that a "12 o'clock" fletching location with RW for RH archer gave the best clearance.
Every bow in our house is set at 5/8" and we get good flight that's where most of my friends bows are set.
Yes I am shooting off the shelf and I do use a 12 o'clock fetching location. I have been shooting bare shafts . I will move my nock point up tomorrow and see if things improve then I'll fletch some arrows and see how they group.
Thank you all for your advice , I'm going to start writing down all the tricks you guys teach me for tuning in a note pad.
I only worry about left right shooting bare shaft, you can really chase your tail chasing a nock high bare shaft with a lot of bows
All my bows leave the shop at 5/8" high.
I have an Osprey and the knock height is 3/8" ,most of my other bows are at 1/2" .
My Dwyer Dauntless is 3/16" .
Some bows are just different .
Most of my bows tuned to 5/8 - 3/4, but the Leon Stewart I've been working with recently likes 3/8. Not sure if something in my form changed or it's a difference in the bow yet.
Thanks for all the responses guys
I moved it to 5/8" but I have been putting in so many hours at work that I have not had the chance to shoot it since my first post. Hopefully tomorrow I can fling some arrows.
What about a second nock point under your arrow?
I wouldn't worry about a nock high arrow. you can get away with a higher nocking point but not a low one.

Beiter archery (were do slo-motion of paradox before it was thought of) recommends up to 20mm above 90 degress for their arrowrest. That is just over 3/4 inch above 90 degrees.
Most people shooting off the shelf try to shoot way to low of a nocking point setting. Start higher, visually looks very high as in the video you posted then slowly increment down.
For RH, my bows shoot best (most forgiving) with the bare shaft impacting slightly at 5 o'clock about an 1/4 to 1/2" below the fletched at 20 yards. This would be a slight up left tear thru paper tester. Usually I have to do nothing for the broadheads to shoot right with the other arrows.
Shoot the middle!
