Title: How much weight is on the back of my arrow?
Post by: jt85 on May 06, 2015, 10:06:00 AM
All the arrow weight questions have got me thinking and I was wondering how much weight you figure is on the back of my arrows.
Gold tip nocks,3-5" feathers put on with fletch tape and a dab of glue on the front of the feathers.

I'm thinking probably 25-30 grains.  Probably about 10 gr for the nock, and about 15 gr for the 3 feathers.  That's approximately what I've found when I've weighed these items on a cheap (but pretty accurate) electronic jeweler's scale.

I weighed some bare shafts; then weighed them again with a cap wrap from OneStringer and 3 5" feathers attached with fletch tape and a drop of instant glue on the front of each feather. Got between 30 - 33 gr added weight.

I agree with jhk1 on his weight without the cap wrap.

Thanks guys , that puts my arrows right about 495 grains. I'll take that my bow 49# at my draw.

10 grains for the feathers, 12.4 for the nock and say 2.5 for the fletch tape and glue.
That puts you around 25 grains.

A digital grain scale helps  :)
