Title: New nock tool from the Toelkes
Post by: tzolk on May 04, 2015, 03:50:00 PM
Came home from the Libby shoot with this cool, precision machined tool to sand down the arrow nocks so they dont POP off of the string which you know can make the shot a bit noisier and will also tear your serving out over time.

The tool has two thicknesses. .090" and .108"
Start with the .090 and run it through your nocks a few times if the ends are tight. After that, go to the thicker .108" side, put your nock in the middle and run it through three times (From the middle each time for starters is what I did). The thicker side was machined to .108" on purpose which is about the thickness of most string servings so you dont want to run the thick side through too much, just 3 times as described to start and adjust from there if necessary- See picture.
The ends of the tool are smooth aluminum so it wont cut into the throat of the nock. Previously I used my tiny leatherman file to accomplish this task. Ive cut into a few throats and over did a couple. This tool being machined at the two precise thicknesses and with abrasives on both sides of the tool, help eliminate most of the guess out of widening the nock.

I was thinking if it were tapered from one end to the other that would be nice - kinda like a spark plug gap tool.

I did think of that a few years ago but that's as far as I got but I didn't think of the same paper just a gap setting tool. That would be great for the nocks Easton uses they don't bend for nothing!
