Are there any broadheads you would like to see tested?
I have some clear ballistics gel and can test broadheads for penetration, accuracy and durability.
-
Cutthroats...thanks
-
cutthroat glue on 160's
-
Not that I need them, but the German Jager looks interesting.
-
Any VPAs 3 vs single bevels
-
Don't have to worry about cutthroats trust me there awesome from bone to sandstone you can't hurt em
-
Stingers, straight out the pack
-
Single bevel steel force 225 grain
-
Badger two blade single bevel and any Muzzy.
-
Woodsman elite 175 grain and Zwickey Delta, Grizzly would be nice also
-
Ace standard 125's

How about an old green Bear Razorhead...?????
It's been "tested" on Grizzly Bears, Polar Bears, Lions, Tigers, Cape Buffalo, Elephants...
Just curious how it stands up to some of the "newer" broadheads...

Grizzly's, Zwickey Delta 4 blades, Woodsmans, and Simmons. I am interested to see how they perform on ballistics gel. I know I have shot and killed deer and hogs with all of them but the Simmons which I got in too late to hunt with this last year, and I am really anticipating using them along side the others based on the carnage I have seen RC post.

SNUFFER V. WOODSMAN

MY fav heads over the years were first Zwickey Eskimo 125...then went to Ribteks...160 and 190s.
Always had a few Snuffers 160 for my 3 blade choice until this past year switched over to Grizzly Instincts in both 175 and 200.
Have taken game with everything except the Instincts....so already have confidence. Though many discount Ribteks due to the ribbed ferrule but when you watch one go lengthwise into a boar hog and disappear.....those concerns disappear. LOL

2 blade Vpa 250gr

Tree shark 190gr

MA-3 with a 75 grain steel adapter.

X2, this seems like a way to get on the Ashby scale on the cheap. (W/ 100 grain inserts)

I like to see razor sharp BH's compared to kinda sharp of all types. Also, would like to see a well tuned BHed arrow compared to a kinda tuned w/ different arrow materials.

This sounds like an interesting idea but I'm not sure the results would be notably different in regards to penetration but we all know it matters a lot in regard to lethality! And for the guys that want to see the Cutthroats tested, I tested them on a doe last season and they preformed wonderfully!

This is the exact same setup I'm running. I watched a video on youtube last night where a guy put them to the test - shot one into masonite backed with plywood, into concrete, and through a metal chair 3 times with a compound and the nose just curled a bit. Best part is the lifetime warranty - Magnus will replace them even if you use them to do tests like this with. I think they'd hold up just as good as any others you tested.

To me the most interesting test would be to check any manufacturers single bevel two blade penetrates more than that same manufacturers two blade double bevel head. One of the claims to the single bevel is that the bevel continues the spine direction through its target. I know for a fact it does continue the rotation as my slits in deer and targets aren't in the same orientation from inlet to outlet. What I would like to see is that if that continued spin internally helps in penetration distance.

The Eclipse would be a good example

don't worry about Ace, these are proven thru & thru many ribcages.

Thunderhead 125 vs snuffer 125. I know from using them they both work great but so many here will dump on the thunderheads for not being COC that actual visual proof would be interesting............. OBTW use a light bow.......

Badger

I believe this is something we can all agree on...all broadheads need testing.
-
magnus 1 4 blade
-
Get any of them sharp and the right combo tuned wise out of your bow and put them in the boiler room----------test aint gonna matter.
-
Thank you all for your input, so far I'm going to test a single bevel design, a standard two blade, a convex two blade and a three blade. Still deciding on what brands to choose.
I think it will be interesting to see them all tested side by side.
My clear ballistic gel came in today and it is some pretty cool stuff. I'm doing some tests tomorrow with it but for the wheelie folks. I will be shooting a helix and a simmons land shark in the test.

Looking forward to your tests! Don't test Abowyer Brown Bears-waste of time-they are sharp outta' the package; I have used them on jack rabbits, hogs and large elk etc. Killer head!
-
I'd be interested to see if there's any difference between a needlepoint sharp head and a chisel point ala Fred Bear/Ted Nugent.
Looking forward to seeing the results!

This is going to be interesting.......because as far as I know, (and maybe you have a different type of ballistic gelatin that makes me wrong), every broadhead you test is going to fly straight to the back of that gelatin and blow out the other side like a hot knife through butter....as its not made for testing something like a broadhead. The same way a threat level 3A ballistic vest will stop a .44 mag +P .....but a sharp broadhead will zip right through it like its not even there. Ballistic gel absorbs energy and that's why it stops bullets.....just like Kevlar. Shooting a razor blade at it is not the same. Its going to have the most effect on the shaft as it slides through the gelatin....thus not really proving anything as far as the actual broadhead goes.
-
The ballistic gel is more for examining wound channels and to see broadheads cutting through it in super slo mo.
I did my testing with the compound this week and it's online right now. The arrows didn't fully penetrate the ballistic gel...
The ballistic gel used is made by a company called clear ballistics. It is really cool stuff and deifferent from the Knox gelatin ballistic gel.
I'm not sure how scientific my testing is but it sure is fun.

This is what I'd like to see. I purchased some a while back and would really like to see how well they perform.

I would love to see a grizzly style 2 blade (the gold standard in penetration) vs Centaur single bevel big game head vs a Snuffer (Gold standard in large wound channel 3 blade).
This could be excellent when considering the wider cut on conctact 2 blade heads, especially for larger game like elk/moose. It would be a good visual comparison of where they fit in.
Aside from all that, I would also love to see the large 3 blade grizzlys! Because they are about snuffer size, but have a taper ratio comparable to the legendary woodsmans!

How about left bevel/left wing arrows vs left bevel/right wing arrows to see if it makes any real life difference to have bevel/feather match....... my observation is NO BTW...........
