Last night I had a massive stroke about 7:30 in the evening. I hit our ER about 8:30, and they filled me full of TPA and sent me to Princeton's NeuroICU.
The TPA has gotten me a little of the use of my left arm back, but the left leg is not really responding. My right eye is trashed, as well, and I'm super light sensitive.
It's pretty early on, but I can't even lift a cup of pills to my mouth with my left hand. More than likely I'll be listing most of my equipment for St Judes-even if I shoot again it won't be those massive warbows.
You are still alive, praise God and He can raise you up!!
Put your hope in God!!! Praying!
I'll be praying for you Ed. Stay positive!
Psalm 91---read it, live it, believe it! God Bless!

They think I'll recover mostly. Pretty much watched my marriage self-destruct though. They're gonna try to get me up and walking, work through the worst of it. Not sure yet about my ability to draw a bow yet, but my right eye is essentially gone.
God knows, and He will take care of what needs.
Prayers for a quick recovery. Gather strength from God's love.

Prayers your way!
Christ is still the great physician ...
We don't know each other Ed, but I've read some of your posts since joining and I have to say that you seem like one tough dude. My Dad had a couple "small" strokes, and then a really bad one. He lost the use of one arm, one leg, and he couldn't speak. The Dr's didn't have much hope for him, but he had that same drive, and fighting attitude that I see in you. A year later he was walking, talking, and shadow boxing. One of his Dr's told him she wished she could take him across the country and show other stroke victims how much that drive, and attitude could accomplish. I know It's easy for me to say, but stay tough Ed. Your in our thoughts and prayers.
Bob
I'm so sorry to hear that Ed. You've been through a lot. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
And I know you will find some way to shoot a bow again.
Sending my prayers for your recovery.
Prayers sent Ed for your recovery and your marriage.
Your strength and attitude during these times always have me in awe.
I've been moved to the floor. Still gonna need a ton of PT and OT, and there's a possibility of surgeries as well. In fact, I hope I get them, as I'd move a lot easier.
My wife visited 15 minutes yesterday and isn't planning to today. I'm still working out what that means.
Prayers sent to you from MI

I'm gonna try to get a pad and pencil and do some archery math for you guys, since I've got so much time. Maybe I'll get a good broadhead design going.
Ed, you can never know what life is going to give you or why. All you can do is charge on and keep going. I'm not a religious man but I believe that the universe/world gives us exactly what we need to do what we must. Take advantage of all of the help and support you have, and don't stress about anyone who chooses not to be there. focus positively not negatively.
My thoughts, prayers and wishes are with you.
I'm not gonna let it get to me. I have friends that are gonna help me find a safe place to live. I'm just working on moving my toes currently.
Prayers up for you!
Bisch
I know what you are going true! I am MS patient for years now and bad (MS)strokes became pretty common to me alas. Even lost eyesight for one eye but recovered from that against all expectations. Only 50%, but that is better then nothing! I have been the last halve year in bed due to a next bad stroke. I am fighting back and will never give up. Slowly picked up training again lately and doing very well. It is hard, but not impossible. Shooting no heavy bows isn't a problem with the amazing good bows they make these days. I am around the 45 lbs, and enjoying it.
Take every days as it comes, and count your blessings bro! Forget the bad days and only count the good ones! God will carry you, don't loose faith. Hang in there!
I'll be praying for you, Ed.
Prayers for God's grace and mercy to done on earth for you

prayers sent from New Zealand Ed stay strong Brother .(they may take awhile to get there)
The prayers got here fine.
I'm finding I need an eyepatch to see properly, and this blocked lens ain't doing it. Wife has all my money. So I'm going to try to make one if I can get my leather brough4 to me.
Stood up for the first time today, and it was pure pain. Still did it, but I'm gonna need braces to take any steps. But God is good, and they found a druc to stop the worst of the shakes.
I still spend practically all day in be0f, and a majority of that time I can barely move with pain. But I'm making progress. Slow but sure.
Prayers from NY
Prayer sent and they will continue. George
Prayers for you and those that stand with you, take it slow but strong, don't give in or up, may you have a speedy recovery.

Wow...man am I sorry to read about all this.
Prayers sent for your recovery!!!!
Prayers for you and all who are with you.
We are all in your corner, keep fighting and we will keep praying.
I took a few step for both PT and OT today. The real fight is gonna be my left arm.
I'm already weaning off the painkillers. Not going down that road again.
If I can draw a bow again, it'll likely be a good bit lwer draw. Draw length shouldn't be aff3cted.
Awesome, you're making progress already. I'm glad to hear it.
Bob
Prayers for you brother!
Not a doubt in my mind you'll pull a string again..... My prayers to Jesus the healer for your recovery ;)
Everyday, now, I see this thread, and my heart goes out for you, and I send up another prayer for your continued recovery!

Prayers for you Ed
Made it up and walking. However, it's on two shot knees and both hips are out. I'll be headed home still in my chair. Got a consult with ortho today 5o discuss long term options. If they don't help I still have some tricks up my sleeve.
The arm is still spastic and low on control. Might have to get intelligent on that too.
You are making progress quickly and that is a good sign! All the prayers are helping for sure!
It sounds as if every day you are getting a little better. here's to continued recovery!
Prayers for you.
So sorry to hear this. May God heal and guide you as you continue your recovery. Sending goodness and healing prayers your way!
Stay positive and keep working at it! You have lots of prayers on your side!
praying for you body and spirit to heal.May God bless you in your battle.
Doing better today, though my compression hose caused a cut on my right foot. I'll be in hose and gloves from here on out. CVI and all.
Waiting on ortho to discharge or keep me. Depends on whether they want to do surgery or not.
Glad to hear it! Praying every day for your continued recovery.
Bob
Glad to see you are making progress so quickly! Prayers for your recovery.

War bow shooters are bred from the toughest stock! praying for a rapid recovery!
Wishing you the very best recovery ... keep the faith
Just want to let you all know I made it home to rehab. I walk some, I can use my arm some, and I'm hoping to pull a bow again soon. My DL isn't affected, and my draw weight is TBD today at therapy. Thank you for the prayers and well wishes, now I have to learn to shoot with only one eye. We'll see how well that works.
Great to hear your progress. Keep us updated brother.
I have great respect for your perseverance and your patience.
I'm really glad to know things are looking better.
It is good to hear that you are making progress.
I would also be interested in your weight capabilities. Looking to help here.
Killdeer :readit: :help:
Glad to hear that you're back home! You're an inspiration to us all Ed. God Bless 'ya.
Bob
My thoughts and prayers are with you! I have not been able to hunt for a few years because of heart problems but hopefully this year I will be able to go bow hunting again. Hang in there and keep your hopes up!
Looks like it's 40-45 pounds optimistically. 35-40 more realistically. Arm shook trying to draw one of my lighter heavy bows, would have been about 75 full (36") draw. 36" I remind everyone is to the corner of my mouth, and I can only alter down with good form to 32". I say this before people tell me don't draw so far-if my left arm hadn't been so heavily damaged as a teenager, I would have had a natural 40" draw, as my left arm is 4 or so inches shorter than my right.
I can shoot my wife's left handed 34 pound recurve, but only have lightweight arrows 28" long. I'm going to see what kind of set my hickory warbow took being strung the whole time I was in and work from there.
Just realized that puts me perfectly in the range for the manchubows.com bow. Draws 36", low weights to work up with. Got to start saving my pennies.
I think you are recovering very fast! Already shooting, that is insane! What me always helped after a MS stroke: make push-ups! Do not over do it, if it is one, then just one. If you can't, try it with sitting on your knees first. A few per day will be enough. I always try to make one more then the former day. Once you can make 25, you are in shape again... But DON'T overdo it, listen to your body...
The power of prayer and your determination seems like you are doing great. Keep up the hard work and never give up.
All the best to you your spirit is strong you will do well keep going prayers from california
We expect to see the Phoenix rise soon. Keep up the good progress. We are all cheering and praying for you.
Don't quit...never quit.
Quit was a swear word growing up. I'm working on new bow designs as we speak. I've got some ideas to help this torn-out shoulder of mine.
I'm looking forward to seeing it. Your recovery is proof of the power of prayer and faith :)
I'm glad you are keeping a positive outlook and being rewarded for it with recovery.
A cherished friend has only one eye is one of the best archery shots and bowhunters I've ever known.
Keep on being a positive example for those around you.
Keep up the positive outlook, we are praying for your recovery. I just sent the big guy a prayer request for you brother.
I am glad to see this positive report. Keep up the good work.
Wishing you continued progress and healing.
That is awsome! It's nice to hear your recovery is going well and that you are shooting a bow again. You are a strong willed and a blessed man and when faced with adversity you never gave in to giving up. I wish you the best on your recovery. Prayers sent to the man up above.
Prayers sent from north Iowa, just takes time to heal!
I hope that your recovery is quick and that you will one day be as good as new. I know that I had a stroke about 7 years ago and I was in the hospital already for a nuclear stress test when it occurred. Fortunately, The good lord allowed me to recover and today I can shoot my longbows as I did before.
You will be in my prayers. I hope your recovery is speedy and full.
I'm not dead yet, just learning to use one of the pair of braces to get me up and walking again. That has been the most uniquely painful experienc3 of my life. I have to scream at BioTech for holding on to my other brace for weeks and call home health out to help me fix my gait. I'm getting stronger, but it's really hard going, not that it's stopping me.
Keep at it my friend. Prayers sent for you and yours.
