Anyone besides me going to be out in the morning? Will be in my new homemade blind (pics coming Bisch) with a friend. It will be his first time ever hunting birds. If he gets one, I can't post his pic, sadly, he's a wheelie guy. lol.
I'll be using my Bear Super Kodiak, wood arrows, Zwicky Eskimo two blades and home made string tracker.
Good luck all.
Good luck tomorrow, I have to wait until Friday here in NY.
Good luck to you!
I won't make it out until maybe next week
I called in four jakes as soon as we got into the blind yesterday morning. I gave my buddy first shot since he's never hunted them before. He missed. Hit the blind window with his arrow on release. I told him to switch to a recurve. lol.
Good Luck! I came across your regs online last night, and if I remember correctly you're allowed 5 birds. 2 on public land and 3 on private land? Cool. We're allowed 2 birds here in the spring. Have fun, and hunt safe.

Good Luck

That's correct, but two different permits are needed. One for private, one for state. I only get private, I figure I'll be happy with one trad bird...if I can get that many shots.
Good luck I will out in the woods myself as much as I can.
Got a bird yesterday, trying to remember how to post a pic
Congrats Goshawkin.
Set up a little after 6AM. Immediately called in 3 toms. As they were coming in, a longbeard gobbled right next to the blind. He went behind a tree and I hit full draw. Looked like he was going to stop and fan out, but he did a 90* turn and trotted away putting. Not sure how he saw me, or something, but no shot. The other three also came within 15 yards but all were looking right into the window, or so it seemed. I couldn't get to draw. They walked away, but not far and gobbled for a couple hours. A hen came through a while later. Then four jakes joined the bunch, but stayed well out of range. The birds are there, and a month of season left.

Had a hen come into my decoys with a gobbler and 3 Jakes in tow. The hen started to bite and wing slap my hen decoy. That brought the 3 Jakes in and got them attacking my jake decoy. The gobbler was just a hair too far for me to shoot and was going nuts gobbling and going into and out of strut, just going back and forth. The hen left and the gobbler followed her. I let them get out of sight and picked out a jake. Perfect shot through his side. Atrow passed through and stuck in the ground on the other side. Pretty much cut his off side wing off. The bird dropped, then sprung straight up about 8 feet, nose dived and hit the ground dead.
I normally don't shoot jakes, but I was hunting with a bow I got from Leo Markert and really wanted to make sure I got a bird with it this year. Leo recently passed away from cancer. I have one arrow left that he made me and want to get a nice gobbler with it so I switched it out before I shot the Jake. The bow is a Timberline, "BamYew" 66# @ 26" and the arrow was a beauty Doug fir from Snag with a 160 Snuffer. I'll be back out looking for a gobbler this week
Beautiful bird and beautiful bow, congrats again. You can't beat those Woodsman broadheads can you? I've used them on everything, for years.
My mistake, I see that It's a snuffer.
Bob
Thanks, I've been using Snuffers for years. 125 for deer and 160 for turkeys. They make huge holes. I was lucky, I started using them before someone found out you can't kill anything unless you use a cut on contact 2 blade
I hear 'ya lol, nothing wrong with Snuffers. We all use what we like, and have confidence in. As long as they're rugged and sharp, and we put them where they need to go, they get the job done. The Woodsman's have treated me good, so I haven't seen any reason to use anything else.

Congrats Goshawkin!
Thanks very much. Can't wait to get back out after a gobbler. Love calling them in, it's like poor man's elk hunting!
Congrats!
Congrats! Any Turkey with a Bow is an Accomplishment. Fine looking Bow you got there too!
Thanks. Yep, I love that bow
Third time out this morning. Same 4 jakes and same 4 toms come in. They won't step in front of the window out front. Staying either out of range, or to the side of the blind. Ugh.
