Title: Simmons Strop?
Post by: Caleb the bow breaker on April 28, 2015, 02:27:00 PM
Gang,

Anybody have any experience or thoughts about what would make a good strop for a simmons or other concave type broadhead.  My initial thought was gluing some leather on a pipe but I figured that somebody on the Tradgang might have a better idea. Pictures would be very helpful.

Caleb,

I use a PowerStrop on all of my blades, curved or straight and it makes them razor sharp.   (http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w469/macdonaldarchitect/PowerStrop_zpsb6upuwzu.jpg) (http://s1077.photobucket.com/user/macdonaldarchitect/media/PowerStrop_zpsb6upuwzu.jpg.html)

I made one by glueing a piece of leather to a foot long piece of plastic tube.  I don't remember where I got the tube, but it's about 2" diameter and works great with a little jeweler's rouge.

I just use a regular strop and rotate the head as I pull it across and come off the right side of the strop as I stroke. I mount head on a short piece of shaft so it's easier than full length shaft.
