hi guys!
after lurking online for a long time and getting advice from the fine gents here i finally got my first bow.
i had a few handicaps namely
1) living in India where sadly we have forsaken our rich heritage of archery
2) having an outlandish draw length of 31.5 inches.
3) being a newb and thus having next to no idea of what i need ( want being a separate issue).
based on the feedback here i interacted with a few bowyers. the best and most patient of them was Edward Boyd of Trinity longbows.
he replied to my numerous mails and queries, called up if i couldn't and finally sent an absolute beauty of a longbow.
it's a three pc bow in black wenge and boo core limbs with black glass.
the bow fits my rather large paw well as if custom made, though Ed did not take a palm trace or print.
i also got a dozen carbon arrows (beman ics bowhunters), bow stringer, glove, guard assorted tips including a six pack of muzzy 3 blades.
the bow is rated at 43 @ 28 and should be drawing 51- 53 @ 31.5. overall length 64 inches. she is strung up waiting for the string to stretch in and me to assemble the arrows. i don't have a lot of room to cut the 340 spine arrows and am hoping to see them fly either right or too stiff.
pics will be posted asap because i have to upload them to photo bucket yet.
thanks for all the great guys on this forum and also for the great advice given

Welcome!! That draw is going to pack a punch! Beware, the traditional addiction has a strong grip, but so very much worth it.
As a side note, I've said it before but never enough; I love the Tradgang community. So many different people from so many places peacefully and fraternally sharing our passion.

presently just practising my draw and form sans arrow flinging. hope to get to zeroing it around the second half of this month.
Would love a pic of the strung profile. Ed put some serious reflex into those limbs, bet its a roclet!
will try to upload tonight or tomorrow at the latest!

It's a beauty! Enjoy it and welcome to our campfire here on the Gang. Let us know how you get along with that new bow.
Welcome, Advitya! That bow should work very well for you and it sounds like your set up should be right on the money. I really like the Beman ICS Hunters..they fly well and are so quiet on the draw.
i did get the time to shoot my bow extensively (for me that is) during my vacation. i made diy targets and am amazed by the amount of punishment a blunt arrow dishes out. i was using a coir mattress doubled up and was surprised when after 50 or so shots the blunt blew through.
on the accuracy front i made some progress and it is uncanny how simple aiming a bow is (if u remember to keep the form right) , the arrow wants to hit what u are looking at. i tried shooting some low placed targets and kept shooting over it till i realised that i was not bending at the waist and trying to drop my arm. the bow was super quite at the shot and has a slight creak at draw. i looked over for any delamination and did not find any. talks with Ed have suggested some remedies to be applied. i have braced it around 6- 6.5 inches though ed recommends 7-8 inches. i found no handslap or noise. busted one arrow hitting a brick wall , range estimated in open fields at around 100 + mts.
lovely experience- would have been poorer for not experiencing this !
