Spent my first day of three with Rick Welch in Arkansas today. Before coming I had watched Rick's videos dozens of times. So I was very excited to finally be here. Picks me up with his black Hummer. Seems right. Liked the guy right off and all day today. Easy to talk to. I had been to a Rod Jenkins Clinic. Read so many books. Viewed so many videos, Been in training with an Olympian Team member coach. So I thought I knew something about shooting. Rick's methods are different. And worked for me right away. Especially his answer for target panic. What a great 3D target setup he has for training. Went through my setup. Changed some fetching. Glad I have another two days, because today was as full of information and learning as I could handle.

Second day was surprisingly as full as the first. So much to learn and absorbe in a short time. It is rewarding to see how fast one improves. Fingers, muscles, focus all get a little tired by the end of the day. Glad to have a training regimen that I can keep on practicing once I leave Rick's patient guiding eye. I decided to go with whatever style of shooting Rick uses. Switched from split to 3 under. Now use static release. The latter helps me not over draw. Stopped gap shooting entirely. Rick's the real deal. Shoots right along with you. Only seen him get bull's-eyes each time no matter the distance. Amazing

Day three: pretty much all day was walking his 3-D course. Applying all that I have learned to this point. Included learning how to shoot from a tree stand, kneeling position, from stool. Rick showed how to keep the same form regardless of body position. Shooting out of the tree stand from directly below out to 25 yards. Deadly shots five times in a row. Could not come close to this before. It's exciting to improve so fast. He patiently helps you work through the mental process toward consistency. I asked him to take some long shots. 50, 60 yards and more. He does not miss. Incredible archer and hunter. For the first time in years I am shooting without target panic. No archery coach has helped me achieve that.

That is great. Just curious, of all you who have attended do you find that the shooting skills you refined while there have stuck with you? Best wishes with your graduation and let us know how you improved. His videos are truly inspirational.
If you shoot well now, you will shoot better after his class. I still use some things almost daily with my shooting. He taught me how to analyze each shot. I shot a quiver full of arrows out of a tree and he told me to get down. He told me i grew up in a tree. My sight perception is so much better from an elevated position. He taught me how to shoot on the ground. In the two days of shooting with me, he did not miss out to 50 yards. He is the best shot I have seen. I have taking it further since the class with a gopro. I video my practice, form, alignment, release, etc. I keep coresponding with McDave and Arnie Moe. McDave took Ricks class and Arnie Moe ( Moebow) has analyzed my form for me. It has been 38 yrs since I starting shooting seriously and still like to shoot daily. I would like to attend Rod Jenkins class someday.
Ricks a cool guy and very good at getting his students to get better. I had the privilege of having him come out here several years ago and hang out with me and 3 of my buddies. We shot in the morning and hunted deer in the afternoon. I was recruited as his camera man. Was a great time and learned a lot. Also filmed him shooting a doe at about 30 yards and she ran just about another 20 and fell dead in the frame. Ricks a good guy and also consider him a friend as we have stayed in touch since. DB
Good stuff here. I noticed he has his students hold through a 1001-1002 sequence. This seems to be how long it takes me to prep for shot. Does he stress this with most shooters or is this an attempt to aid curing TP?
Possum Head: yep, he emphasizes holding that long each time unless of course a hunting shots dictates differently. It also helps with TP. However TP is primarily dissolved when you stop aiming and let your mind's eye focus only on a spot. It is the aiming as with gap shooting or pins for wheelie bow guys that grits TP to set.
