Here I sit, in the woods surrounding my home in cny.
I am taking down my treestands in preparation for my move to northern idaho.
The months have turned to weeks before I sell my home and move into temporary housing and I sit here in my last stand saying goodbye.
As the sun filters thru the trees, the geese honking in the beaver pond behind me, I cant help but think back to the countless days spent here , longbow in hand waiting on the big buck to show himself.
I will miss NY, if only for the hunting and the solitude these woods have given me.
I dont want to get down but I must, idaho is calling.
I, too, have known that feeling and experience. I sincerely appreciate what you share, and your courage to share it.
Stay strong, and travel safe.
New hunting adventures are waiting for you out west.
Chapters in the book of your life. Enjoy the book.
It was a pleasure to hunt with you at the Moose River hunt. Im sure you'll find new stomping grounds in Idaho and a better quality of life.
Experiences you will not soon forget, new ones await you I promise.
It has been said parting is such sweet sorrow, but you have new adventures ahead.
May the Great One watch over you My Brother...

change can be hard, but it also can be good. Hopefully you will have plenty of opportunities in Idaho to gain new memories afield.
Store the fond memories, and get ready to make some new ones. Idaho is a beautiful state with an incredible amount of wilderness to explore. Travel safe and enjoy your new adventure :archer2:
Finding new adventures to replace old favorite places will be fun I'm sure. Good luck.
Many yrs ago I lived in Oregon and you are really going to enjoy it, you will miss NY woods but you are trading up. Your taxes should also improve greatly, for the better also.
Give me a holler when you get here. I'm in Bonners Ferry and can hook you up with some other trad guys in the area
Thank you for the kind words. I can't wait for the first cool morning in the Idaho mtns.
Izzy it was my pleasure meeting and sharing a campsite with you. I planned on making again this yr but opening weekend my wheels will be heading west.
Thank you for your selfless service protecting our friends and families.
Jon. I will most definitely look you up. Will be in couer d alene probably the 3rd week of October.
Im sure you will find a lot more hunting opportunities in Idaho, but I understand. Took my 8 year old grandson for a ride today showing him places I hunted as a boy, in the same county mind you, and not nearly as scenic, and full of game as where I live now, but nostalgic none the less. He wants to go there, and do those things, with me. He is going to be as sentimental as me, I just know it. Its all good. Explore new places, make the best of what you get, but don't forget what and where you had good memories as well.
Best of luck on your move.......instead of big bucks you can chase elk in the high country.
Couer d alene in October is beautiful Hopefully things will still be all blazing orange for you.
You'll like it there i'm sure. There are plenty of hunting & fishing opportunities in Idaho..... Beware of Sasquatch in them hills.
a longbow moose is tops on my bucket list, but i'd take a squatch too.
It's always sad when leaving a place that has been home. I felt the same way when I left Western Washington. But as someone who was born and raised in Spokane, let me assure you that those Idaho mountains hold many exciting adventures ahead. Enjoy.
Man, that first post made me stop and have a brief moment myself. I was Sad then confused, then jelous of you, then I felt some sort of a happy/confused sensation for ya.
It made me think about what it would be like to finally make up my mind to move From my home state to one of my dream States and how I would explain to my children what it was like hunting and spending time back home. No doubt in my book Idaho will be much better than N.Y, but I have never been to either haha.. I have been to Montana and man was it awesome! God Bless, and good luck!
You will be a lot closer to Alberta...let me know if you are interested in hunting here...I have connections
DDave
New Adventures to be had... I think you couldn't pick a better area to move to for a hunter!
Best of luck on your move and I hope to follow you out of NY as soon as my house is worth more than I owe.
Kevin,
Welcome to Idaho! I live about 3 1/2 to 4 hours south on Highway 95 in Grangeville.
the decision to move was easy, if coumo was elected governor again, we were out of here. we know how that turned out.
this move is a leap of faith as we have no jobs or a place to live once we are there.
the pacific northwest has always been a dream of mine since i was old enough to read my fathers outdoor life and field and stream back in the 1970's.
leaving my home in Michigan at the age of 18, joining the USAF, i hoped to be stationed in Alaska or Washington state but the military took me to Mississippi and NY.
after 29 yrs here in NY i feel the time is now, while there's still wind in my sails, to make this move.
not a poetic or even a romantic man, this morning just touched me in a way that's hard to explain.
i am committed to the longbow and i am looking forward to meeting new friends and chasing new game in Idaho.
