While I have owned many "custom" bows, I've always bought used or "stock" bows. I am now getting on a custom bowyers "list" and need to begin thinking about what woods to go with.
The bow will be a static tip recurve with "belly mounted limbs/forward riser design".
I think highly figured bocote (or bacote sp?) is my absolute favorite for the limb veneers.
What riser wood/woods would complement those limbs? I know this is subjective... but would like your opinions.
Thanks for your help.
I love beautiful woods. I drive myself crazy at sites like this! :)

Thanks for the link. I have been searching "Wood for bows", and the like. I too like window shopping for wood.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
kwyk styk?
Daniel,
There are several great bowyers that build that particular design. I'll post it up later.

Wow! That is stunning!
I have been considering the cocobolo... and thought about bocote and bocote... really like the bocote.
Still keeping an open mind. REALLY APPRECIATE PICS
I like bocote and phenolic. I'm not a huge fan of bocote but think that figured/crazed look goes really well with black.
Cocobolo or Macassar Ebony
Nice cocobola and bocote look great together. The cocobola adds some extra weight, which I like.
I really do like the macassar ebony... but decided to go with cocobolo.
It will be a Kempf Kwyk Styk. 56" and 50#@27. Horn on tips with a horn thumb rest. Also, 2 strips of maple in the riser with lite brown phenolic for added strength.
Thanks guys!
Walnut would be a nice wood.
I am a big fan of cocobolo. I think it looks great with everything.
Yep Cocobola is an excellent choice congrats on your first customization. Be sure to let us see her when done.
