My number has been called by ACS bows. I was wanting to get a few responses from the family about the quality, feel, speed, sound, etc. What are your thoughts? Likes dislikes?
Thanks everyone!
MountainTool21
they are great shooter, but man the price is just a hole different issue.
Sweet glad to hear John got ahold of you congrads on your new toy
Buy it, you will like it.
Xia Swampbuck
thanks for the response. How is the handshock?
There is no hand shock that I can notice. This is the smoothest, fastest and most forgiving bow I've found so far.
Mountain Tool21 I have a 64" 54 @28 love the bow got it from a Trad. member two months ago, a week later I got the call from A&H and I order another one a little heavier, they really are one of a kind long bow, no hand shock, the only noise I hear is the carbon arrow coming off the rest. They are light in weight so I added a four arrow bow quiver, to help stablizes the bow a little. I have to agree with every one eles they are a little pricey, but every one has to pay the bills,I think you will like it, shoot it and give it some time
I just got mine and I must say, it is the most forgiving long bow I have shot. Workmanship is excellent. No handshock, not even a hint of it. A set of Wooly whisperer's and it is SILENT. My ACS CX is 62" and 47lbs @ 28". It flat out smokes an Axis arrow!!!!! I am so pleased with it, I ordered a second set of limbs. You won't be disappointed.
Best bow I have ever owned or shot. I also have a quiver on mine and like the added weight. Quiet, fast and I love the grip! Mine is 64" and 49#@28". I would like another one 62" and 55#@28", but will have to hold off until after I get my one piece from O.L. then maybe one of the new 16" riser ACS CX's will find its way under the ole Christmas tree!
Just got one, too, and am still getting used to it. The preload in the limbs is a little distracting for me, as I like a bow that build poundage a bit more smoothly. They aren't the prettiest bows, and the finish could be a little nicer (it's okay, but most other bows I've had have been much nicer). I personally don't find it forgiving, but that's me. No handshock. Grip is a little small.
It is fairly quiet, and pretty fast, but I'm just not sure it's what I'm looking for. I'll give it some time. But, as you can see, alot of people love them, so I could just be missing something!
Mark
Mark I will agree with you about the preload some, it does stack pretty fast after 28" but I pull alittel over 27" as for looks they are not the prettiest bow, but I like the clean look of it, as for the grip I shot wheel bows for a while and I like the smaller grip. As with all the bows out there, it's not for every one.
Larry, I agree. I just went outside and shot it, and I was consistently hittling a beer can from 15 to 30 yards. What's that about? I need to learn what it wants from me, I guess. It is a nice bow. It's just making me work. :)
I must be the odd man out...
What about comparing the Black Widow long bow to the ACS CX? I have never owned either one but I would like to hear from someone who has.
Thanks alot
Richie
I have 2 of them (my wife thinks the second one belongs to my 14 year old, come to think of it he does too........) this is the only bow I shoot now and my accuracy and confidence are way up.
These days lots of top bows are 1200 and more. The ACS is a good value; smooth, fast and great to look at. I dropped 7 pounds in bow weight going from 56+ down to 49. Love the bow. One big negative is that my other bows are now very pedestrian by comparison.
That dollar offer is still good buddy. :bigsmyl:
Great responses from all of you. A couple more questions; one, is the grip medium or high? Can the guys at ACS make a medium to high grip? second, do the limbs have carbon in them? Thanks again
MountainTool21
Thats what the C in ACS stands for Carbon. The grip is a medium, Larry can tell you if they'll do any others yet.
Vermonster
You're awesome my friend. What would you prefer a black swan hybrid or this ACS longbow?
MountainTool21
Both are excellent bows. Which you prefer is what matters.
Vermonster, so you're saying I would not have to take all those pics and list any of my bows in the classifieds or on the auction site and you would still give me a dollar?
What about shipping? PayPal cash transfer?
I'll even cover shipping to help you out. I'm not without a heart you know. I have Pay-Pal. :D
vermonster
which bow has a smoother pull the swan or ACS?
I own both at the same weight. The Swan is quieter, draw is very similar feeling, I like the ACS grip a little more since my hand injury and my Swan is a little faster and deader in the hand. The bows are very close across the board in everything but sound, not that the ACS is loud, the Swan I have is called Spooky for a reason though. It is the quietest bow I've ever owned at this point.
Actualy the C in ACS stands for "Adcock Cross Section". The CX is the carbon Extreme, or at least that was what I was told by OL.
You are correct Pat.
Lenny
I've got two (41#@28", 45#@28") I draw 29" so I'm getting so I get about 3 more lbs from each. My name came up about a week ago and I had them take me off the list. I had thought I would sell my 41# CX and get another a little heavier, but I have changed my mind and grown to really like the 41# bow.
Yup you're right Pat. I used the wrong C.
My name came up back in May. I thought long and hard and just could not justify the cost. I have shot a few and was not overly impressed. Nice bows but I can buy two used bows that perform darn close and look better for the price of one. I would buy a Centaur before one of the ACS as I liked the way the ones I shot performed and shot better for me.Shawn
I have both an 3 pieced TD ACS CX and had a 3 piece TD Swan. The Swan had a metal riser and the ACS has an ebony riser. Both seem dead in the hand. My ACS is very slightly faster and quieter than the Swan.
The fit and finish on both bows is excellent. I sold the Swan and still have the ACS. Also ordered a heavier set of limbs for the ACS. And my name has come up on OL's list. He is making me another 3 piece TD.
IMO, it boils down to a personal preference between those 2 bows.
The newest Swan limbs are a step-up though OL has told me he has a few surprises in the works himself.
I just got the email confirmation my # is coming up at A&H...deposit goes in today for a 4month delivery date.
The 2 wood handle 3pc CX's I've shot in the past 6 months were the best longbows I've ever shot.
"deposit goes in today for a 4month delivery date."
You guys gotta stop that, some of us have been waiting a tad longer than that, just a tad mind you
My deposit went in about 3 weeks ago ive got about 3 months to go. Huumm sounds like the end of Dec. going to be a good Xmas.
Swamp, been on that list for a while...they are just now taking my deposit.
I assume you haven't been on the list with A&H for too long....are you talking about OL's list? Cuz I know that one is a bit beyond 4 months
I am waitng for mine!!!!
Hopefully it will arrive here in Norway at the end of October.
We are three friends that are waiting and waiting and........
It will be with me on my first hunt in Colorado next year, i just cant wait!!
Inge
I own 2 ACS/CX's. One for me and one for my wife. Had 3 sets of limbs, 45,50,and 54 pounds. One riser Kingwood and the other Ebony. Beautifully built extremely fast bows. No hand shock at all. The only problem I have had is that the bows seem to be subject to heel pressure. In a 5 arrow group at 20 yards, I would sometimes have one arrow over a foot higher than the others. I have never shot longbows before only recurves. Because of this, I don't think that it is entirely the fault of the bow. I just recently sold my wife's bow(the Kingwood)with the 50 pound limbs. I kept the Ebony riser and the 45 and 54 pound limbs for myself. I would by another one in a minute if I didn't already have one. If you are a longbow shooter, you can't go wrong with an ACS. I'm looking forward to what OL is developing for the future.
Jon
Richie Nell,
I have owned an ACS CX built by OL a couple of years ago and currently own e Black Widow PLX longbows. I sold the ACS and still have the Black Widows. I like the feel and shootability of the Black Widows much more than the ACS, however it is a personal thing. You need to try both and decide for yourself.
own 3 PLX

Dave,
The C in ACS stands for Cross as in Adcock Cross Section. The C for carbon comes from CX, and the X stands for eXtreme, although it could mean the carbon is on the eXterior of the limbs rather than sandwiched between laminations or under glass.
Bill
To quote the owner of the Archery Shop "That is the quietest bow I've not heard in my shop in 14 years of operation!" He was referring to my ACS CX as I was shooting it in the indoor range yesterday. The bow is totally quiet and is dead in the hand. It gets the Axis 400 arrows footed with 1916 down range very fast and when I maintain a steady bow arm and get a clean, crisp, static release it groups very well at 20 yards. At 5, 10 & 15 yards the groups are so tight that I've started aiming at different locations so I won't damage the high priced Axis arrows!
There's a couple of things I have to focus on when shooting the bow to get the accuracy to be consistent. The grip has to be on the meaty part of the hand below the thumb. If I heel the bow, the arrows will fly all over the place. I also have to make sure I maintain a very steady bow arm and get a static release. If I maintain these three as constants, the bow shoots extremely well.
Bill
Now remind me Bill, that's a wood riser 3pc that you're lovin so much, ain't it :saywhat:
I have two of them and consider them at least equal to other top of the line traditional bows. One of mine is a two piece (with bevel lok) and the other is a three piece. I personally like the three piece best because of its small recurve like grip. Conversley, a good friend of mine prefers the two piece with longbow grip. Both are quiet and fast and shoot a wide variety of shafts well.
John Stockman
What are the specs going to be on your bow JC? Let me take a guess - I'm thinking Ebony Riser, 62", 55# @ 28". Pretty close????
I have a 62" that is 53 # at 28" and I flat out love the way it shoots. It is as quiet as my Morrison Arapaho and just as smooth. The carbon limbs scratch really easy so I think they could finish them a bit better. I am not a boyer but maybe a thicker finish would slow the bow down a bit. Not a real pretty bow but if you want a very smooth, super fast, and very quiet bow their probably arent to many out there that compare. I second Bjorn....the Morrison that I have cost alot more than the ACS and worth every penny. I definitely think your get what you pay for in the ACS.
I know you guys love these bows and they are sure purty but I showed the one on his web site to my wife for 2 bills with a knife and for 23 years marriage with out getting beat up . I came really close.RC
Another note my buddy Mudfeather got his ACS a month or so ago and built a takedown from binghams a little before that and hunts with his homemade bow. I`m ordering the stuff this week to build me one. Cost about 200 bucks.RC

JC,
Yes sir, it's a gorgeous piece of Cocobolo.
Bill
With all due respect. I have had several. I have put each one on the scale and have found none that stack all the way to 30"+. Perhaps what some feel is stack is actually just the extra 2-3 pounds per inch. I can not shoot the one I have now as well as some of my other bows (hitting the target), but they are the most efficient power shooting bows I have ever shot.
As far as hitting what you are aiming for, the grip, the weight of the bow, sight widow, etc have as much impact as bow efficiency.
Greg, 62" cause that's as short as they make em, 60@27 cause that's as heavy as they make em. Zebra wood riser.
RC, Yep, they's high as a cat's back...but after shooting Greg's and Shane's, I've started parting out less desireable bows and cashing in i.o.u.'s to get this one...I think it's that good.
I have been shooting a CX for about 5 mo. I have been building and shooting my own bows for a while now but wanted to find out if the ACS is as good as the hype. When I first got the bow I wasn't that impressed. There was no eye candy and it didn't seem all that fast to me. I checked with one of my own 3 pcs. longbows of the same # and there was only 9 ft / sec. difference and my bow had a TS1 string.
The more I shot the CX the more I was impressed with it . NO hand shock and very quiet.
Where the CX really shines is with a heavy arrow. My hunting arrows weight 700 gr. and I have no problem with arrow arching at hunting distances. Are they worth the $ ? Everyone has an opinion but I think they are the best shooting longbows I have shot to date.
Bill
JC,no I'm not on the A&H list and the other list has been very depressing to me.If I hadn't gotten my hummingbird LB in between there's no way I'd still be waiting. The ACS is a very good bow,top of the line, but it isn't the only one just the only one that takes ???YRS to get....no comment on how many besides too many
!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
and yes a full refund is an option just not the one I signed up for
If you ask them real nice, they will make one a little heavier than 60#@27". I have a set of limbs coming that are 63-65#@27".
I'm looking at a 62" 58# at 28". I also have a redesigned black swan coming to my house later this week to test. It's getting close to decision time folks. I like a medium to high grip. I'll put arrows thru both and call it
"go-time"
58#@28 64" Swan? You are getting the use of my new limbs. lol
Vermonser
Yeah, I hope so. AD told me someone would be cool enough to send me their NEW set to try out.
I hope I like the bow. AD is good people.

Phil, NOW you tell me :banghead:
We just talked again tonight...I'll call him back tomorrow and see if we can up the weight a bit. Thanks for the heads up.
Swamp, I understand completely...that's why I went the A&H route. Good luck in your quest.
Those are the ones. Let me know how you like them. They are some new belly material that is killer. I could tell you the chrono numbers in PM, but I'll let you see for yourself. ;)
David is soooo right. I also have the new set of limbs and they do fly at amazing speed !!!!
I know you do. I have your old bow with the limbs those were supposed to replace. :knothead:
I am so jealous. lol
Vermonster
You're talking about the killer material in Swan right?
Yes I am.
I'm shooting great plains 59# recurve. What weight should I go with the Swan?
What are you shooting for arrows now? Do you want to buy new arrows or use what you have.(this goes for the ACS also)
I am shooting 60-65 11/32's cedar arrows from lyn down in Arkansas.
They are going to be way to weak on a Swan or ACS at 58#s.
What would you suggest then
You want to stay with wood?
Yes, but I do run Carbon Express 4560's thru my Great Plains 59#. Will those go thru a Swan of similar draw weight?
I also run Heritage 250's thru the Great Plains
You can try some real light tips. But I think you'll need a heavier spine.
so 65-70's or heavier
More like 90/95s
Damn, that is a heavy spine. What size of cedar are you running thru your swan? what are your swan specs again?
I gave up on wood with it and the ACS. My swan pulls 53.5 at my draw and so does the ACS. I have been shooting 350s and Trad heavies with 200 up front. Going to give Axis 400s a try soon.
I think I have to change from the 350's too. Let me know how the Axis 400s turn out David.
Daniel
Anyone shooting GT7595? I have one that is 60# and was thinking of going to these. The 5575s shoot weak if I get up above 160gr. for tip weight.

the mine is 64#@28...I shoot GT7595 and CE6075 with 8GPI wheight tubes and 145 points...perfect flight after bare shaft tuning...
