Title: Turkey medicine...
Post by: fnshtr on April 22, 2015, 01:52:00 PM
WV season comes in Monday and extends through May 23rd. I'll be after them with my (new to me) Kwyk Styk. My arrows are GT 3555s with 100 grain brass inserts... 29" and they calculate to 541 grains.

FOC is 24%. Broadhead used this year is the Zwickey Cliff that weighs 175 grain.

I like the looks of this BH. I realize they are not legal in a few states due to the fact that they are considered "barbed".

I REALLY like the looks of that Zwickey. Odd that it's considered a barbed head...pretty sure that makes them illegal for PA. Darn.

Looking forward to the results of how it stands up against a turkey, that new to you Kwyk Styk needs to see some action  :D

Wicked looking Head, I believe that would be considered barbed here in NY but like Joe said, I wouldn't want to be that Turkey.

PA digest no longer addresses barbed heads nor stone points.

I recall having read that some states are removing the language from their regulations. Seems silly to me to make this type of broadhead illegal.

Anxious to see how it performs.

I've located 4 gobblers... but will be taking the grand-daughter out this Saturday with the 410 for "youth day". That may eliminate one of them.

i think the reason for the barbed rule is on a poor hit animal the broadhead will not work its way out  to allow healing...I think it is a good law..you don't want animals walking around with an arrow flopping under the skin...I know some will say..don;t make a poor shot but in reality it happens to anyone who hunts a lot....
I saw one of these used on a hog and in that case it helped finish off the boar so it can also be a good thing    good luck to both of you

I could sharpen the back of the "barbs" on the Zwickey... then it would be more like the Magnus Stinger in the pic above.

Wouldn't that make the two broadheads work similiarly?

Good looking head, I considered those but I don't think legal here in KY (barbed). I went with the 170gr Zwickey Delta, and it did a good job.
