This past year has been a bit tuff with a total knee surgery in July and back surgery in December. I haven't been in my forge since last June. But I'm happy to report that both surgeries went quite well and I am feeling great! So I've been forging like mad for the past 3 weeks.
Now the decision for St Judes...Skinner or Camp/Kitchen blade. These two are unfinished in fact the skinner just came out of the tempering oven. Do I go with a 7 1/2 inch skinner or an 11 inch camp/kitchen knife?? Either will be finished with a nice handle and probably a Kydex sheath. Guess I'll have to ponder that while I'm turkey hunting in Nebraska next week :) tippit

I'm a fan of the skinner......but that's just me!
Glad your feeling better...and either of those two would be a great choice.
Actually there is one other blade to be stirred into that pot. My Ulu inspired skinner. Help me with your choice...tippit

Not to throw in another choice, but about a neck knife Jeff, you ever do something like that?
The camp, kitchen knife is very cool.
That Ulu skinner would do it for me, that is a nice design.
David
Either of the skinners would be my choice Doc!
If I had to choose, I would select the 7.5 skinner over the ulu-style.
Either way - it will be a blessing for the kids!
THANK YOU for your generosity and willingness to support!
Keep the wind in your face and drop the string on a *big* Tom!

awbowman,
Kydex really shines for a neck because it holds the knife so firmly in place.

Unless you are talking about the original Native American neck knives!

The camp, kitchen knife would be my choice. I love the design of that one and unfortunately I spend a lot more time in the kitchen now a days than I do skinning game.
I'd vote the 7.5" skinner, but I'd like any of them !
Hey Tippit, I'm digging the skinner myself!! Glad to hear that you're on the mend!! Getting any fishing in, or are you too busy being "retired"???
I was typing when you posted the neck knives. All I can say is WOW!!
My vote would be for either of the skinners, but I'm sure whatever you do, it will be a great addition to anyones collection!
And I'm glad to hear that your surgeries went well, and you are doing great!
Bisch
I like the ulu but since it's for the kids, what about one for each board, lol stire that pot :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Hey Jeff I'm so glad the surgery went well ... I'm very partial to a skinner, but then you threw out the neck knives and ....
The camp knife gets my vote.
Your ulu skinner is an absolute beauty !!! Looks like the perfect knife to me!! Either way it's a wonderful donation to a great cause!! Good luck in Nebraska
The ulu inspire skinner gets my vote. Reminiscent of a Nessmuk style knife; I really like it!
Jeff, are those convex edges on your knives?
That ulu is fantastic! Definitely gets my vote.
collofthewild,
They are all flat ground with a rolled convex edge so you are only sharpening the edge not a V bevel.
Thanks Jeff, they look beautiful.
Since it's for the kids...how 'bout all of them!!
Bud B,
If I do all of them, my back might be in the same shape as last summer & fall. That was the first hunting season that I never got out. I didn't even re-start shooting until after the first of this year.

Kydex with a neck knife with paracord on handle. Nothing fancy, just an honest to goodness working knife. That would be sweet
Skinner gets my vote.
I doubt it will be the most popular but I like that ulu, it just looks like a work horse beast. I want to skin something big with it :) All your knives are beautiful by the time they are done Jeff.
Jeff, I would be honored to own any of your knives. If you wouldnt hurt yourself, you could pick one out of a hat and I am sure it would do Quite well.
I don't think that you could go wrong with any of them. All VERY nice!
Like them all, but the skinner would be 1st. Glade you are up and around, time to give up fighten bear, to test your knives, think?
The ulu skinner gets my vote. Thanks for your generosity!
Wow ! What a teaser that Tippit is ! How about one of EACH !
Great job Mr Tippit !
ChuckC
Very nice!!
Glad you are recovering. I would go after the kitchen knife. It would just get more use and is a very nice design
I'm with Chuck. I've got a handful of hunting knives that get bloody a few times a year and a Leatherman and small Swiss Army knife that I abuse in between, but I cook several times a week and love using a good, well-balanced , sharp kitchen knife and take one of mine with me when I'm camping.
So many choices ... they are all fine considerations but I think I would go for a skinner of either design.
Your generosity to the Children of St Judes is outstanding   :jumper:
I had to wait until I could use the home computer to see the Native American style neck knives - WOW !
Beautiful work ! :notworthy:
Ulu skinner for sure.
I would feel privileged to own any of the three.
