I had a good friend come down for a visit last week, although the hogs seemed to disappear while he was here. As luck would have it, they returned last night with a vengeance. I had a sounder of around 20 hogs around me for nearly 30 minutes, but couldn't line the largest of them up. Several hogs went over 200#. I shot the second largest, which probably was around 300#. I could have shot several of the 200# hogs, but was holding out for a big one. Boars were fighting, mounting sows. It was crazy, and the wind was right. Eventually the largest boar ran another boar off then followed a nice sow away from me, but the other large boar stuck around and fed. I still didn't have a shot right away, and when I did, it was steeply quartering away. I took the shot, and the arrow entered far back, angling steeply forward. The arrow buried completely in the hog, so my lit nock didn't help at all, lol. I waited a little over an hour, hoping that other hogs would come back and to give this hog more time to expire. It started to drizzle, so I figured I had better get busy tracking. It didn't take long. I had a massive blood train from the vpa 3 blade, which must have hit the aorta or one of the iliac arteries. He went around 100 yards total, but crossed a creek with steep walls. When I came upon him, I knew that there was no way that I could drag him across the creek. I went home, got my backpack, a meat bag and trekking poles. I got both backstraps and one of the hams out in a steady rain, but then it became a downpour. I had to leave the rest for the coyotes if I had any hope of getting across the creek. Too bad.

Just for some fun, I will include some other pics. I got to see a Jake beat up a Jake decoy at 5 yards away for over an hour, during which time he mounted the decoy. Pretty cool. I can't take any credit for the setup. My buddy did that.

Congrats Pat on a the fine swine!!!!! I have a feeling that big boar is in trouble in the near future.
Thanks Dave,
I probably ought to concentrate on those sow for awhile, but I won't pass up an opportunity for that toothy bugger.
Another nice one Pat. And turkey porn too.
  :clapper:
Way to go!

Nice shooting my friend
You're going to need another deep freeze before too long! Congrats on another great hog! Awesome turkey pics too.
 :notworthy:
Thanks to work and finishing my masters, I've had a brief hiatus from TradGang (I haven't checked in for about a month :scared: ), but it's good to see that you are still hard at those hogs! Nice work!
Great job,Pat. Congrats
I had some doubts as to how effective decoys are but not any more.

Congrats :)
Congrats pat way to keep at em down there!
Way to go Pat! Too bad you couldn't get more meat. You better put a rating on this thread with all the turkey porn. :biglaugh:
Congrats. Your hogs sure are well fed.
No kidding. All the acorns you could want in the fall, pecans in the winter, fields to root in in spring and summer. I have feeders out to supplement the deer in the winter and spring, and the hogs are hammering that too. Gonna have to get some protein type feeders, rather than broadcast, to let the deer get something to eat.
Congrats Pat , do you have baccon with every meal?
If you ever get tired of killing all them hogs down there, just let me know. It's just about 130 mi. to your neck of the woods, from mine.....just sayin'. :saywhat: I haven't been able to make it happen up here, so I must be doin' something wrong. Do you give lessons? Lol.
Seriously though, congrats on another fine one!
Good job Pat. I woulda shot the Jake..RC
Thanks Robert. I may come to regret not shooting it, but I was having fun watching it and you can only shoot one bird in the county that I live in. Plus the freezer is pretty full.
Great Job Pat !! Hope to see your Mug soon. :clapper:
When's the Trad Gang BBQ? I'd say you got a good case of Swine Flu, Life is Good when there's hawgs to slay!
