Never in my life have I needed a hunt more than this one! Been working an ave. of 75hrs. a week for the last 6 weeks...haven't seen my yard in the the daylight except for Sunday....and Sunday have been a whirlwind of catching up.......
I leave for KS fri. morning to hunt with good friend "KSTrapper", Tracy Potter and his boys for nine days. Myself, Tracy, and Peter I. were supposed to hunt together, but I didn't draw an archery tag. So it's bowhunting during rifle season fo me. It won't be the Nov. "prime time" but we should do fine. Looking forward to the company and the relaxation as much as the hunting.Hope the meet up with "Irish" as he's not too far from Tracy, and should be able to finally meet "Iron Bull",Vance Brewer and his way thru to Charlie's for their Paradise hunt. Hope to meet a few other TG'ers also....
I haven't been shooting as much as usual this time of year because of the work hrs,but I should be fine.
Won't be as many big bucks on their feet at this time, I know this, but all I need is one to be "close enough". Hope to reek havoc on some big KS turkey too!
We hope to keep everyone updated on the hunting as we go from Tracy's house....so stay tuned...the fun should start Saturday!!
-
Good luck guys!
-
Good luck with your hunt.
I have been in KS for about a month now and can not believe the numbers of turkey here. Deer are plentiful as well but the numbers of big deer are enough to make me want to stay.
Hope to get some hunting here as well but only time will tell.
-
Looking forward to meeting you!! Good luck on your hunt!!!! :archer:

I am so ready too, Work has been tuff also. Well the stands are all checked and the blinds are ready to go.I have seen turkeys and deer every day, There are five big ones hanging around a bean field by the house and hopefully they won't harvest that field until Curt is gone. If not they are in the corn also even though its cut.We will get plenty of timber hunting and turkey chasing too.

It's gonna be nothing but, rubber boots, bows, Sitka Gear, turkeys, big bucks, and good folks...does it get any better than that?

Danny
-
Good Luck in Kansas Curt! I can't help but wonder though, Bows in gun season? I do it all the time but I've never been shot with a deer rifle by another hunter. That's gotta be a little hard for you to do. Again, good luck and stick a big one. CK
-
Yeah CK, I would have a hard time cocentrating but then again, I ain't the Guru.
-
We will be hunting private property and using blaze orange.I know what you mean though, Most people don't know that Curt was shot a few of years ago by a rifle hunter.
I tell ya, He is one tuff guy and I am glad that he is still hunting. He is very lucky that it just hit him in the leg.
Tracy

Brian
-
Hey Tracy,
Gather them up and bring them over to the Rondy at Overbrook, course, that all depends on how soon ya tag one I guess...
-
All this Ks. talk has me itching to get back up there. I know the deer on the family farm are missing me. Good luck to you guys.
-
....this working stuff stinks!
Thanks again for all the well wishes guys :notworthy:
It's true....I haven't hunted during an open rifle season with my bow since my shooting. Swore to my wife I wouldn't do it again(around here). Not much of a concern to me at Tracy's though. It's all private and we'll be the only one's hunting in those areas...and yes, I will be wearing some orange!
This will be the first deer hunting I've had a chance to do this fall. So needless to say,I'm more than ready to get going. Anybody that knows me knows how much it means to me to me hunting with good friends....Tracy is as good a person as I've ever met and I very much looking forward to meeting his family.
I'll have "Timex" with me of course. My 11yr old Kempf Kwyk Styk that has been a very trusted companion for many years. She's got a new set of copperhead skins for this year and is looking better than ever. Throw in some carbonwood 4000's and big 160 snuffers and I'm good to go.
Again thank you all very much and we'll do our best with the updates. Doe tags, turkey tags, and a bucks tag.......hmmmmmmm
-
Relax, have fun and forget about work. I wish you the best of luck, put it to them!
-
Hey Curt , I hope you do well out there with Tracy.
I'm pretty sure he's been anxiously waitin' for you to get there as well. He was already talking about it while we were in Montana in August.
You two get started talking about a Colorado elk hunt, just figger on me coming too!
Take lotsa pics and tell Marla I said hi!
-
I have to live vicariously through everyone else hunting this year, so take lots of pics and try not to 'Lamb' the story out tooooooo much! You know, a week or so would be just fine; more might be a bit excessive! :jumper:
I know you guys will have a blast!!
-
I actually have two days off before I go....gonna do as much catching up with the family as possible before I leave.
Jeremy, I'll try bud...and thank you again ;) :notworthy:

And yes, I'm very much looking forward to that long overdue handshake and hug with my brother Vance!!
-
looking foward to the tales of the adventure Curt :archer:
-
Good luck Curt. I saw some great rutting activity two years ago over this same weekend time frame. It makes since because we are about 28 days away from the time we typically see chasing activities from the deer. If you guys get lucky you might have a doe that cycles in a month early like some of them occassionally do.
If you guys have decided to meet up at Bass Pro or Famous Dave's (are you listening Vance?) I'd like to see if I can make it. If not then I might try to meet up with you when you are flying out. At least that way I could get a sneak preview of the story in case the dial up doesn't work.
Best of luck,
Chris
-
Chris, That would be great to get together bud....let's see what Tracy thinks.
-
PACKIN....PACKIN.....MAPQUESTIN...Gotta call Tracy N Curt.....Heck this trip could get intrestin.....Mel and Chris :scared:

Curt here...
Well I made it safe and sound,Tracy and his son Tress were waiting for me when I got in. Bags arrived with me,so all is good on that end.
We had a quick trip to Cabelas(going back soon)and then met and had a great bbq lunch with "Irish"(Mel),KCtreeman(John). Two great fellas! Thanks again for lunch Mel
Looked around a bit,and shot some. Getting gear rearranged and we'll be ready. I brought the TG dvd for Tracy to watch tonight,we'll do that soon.I know he's gonna love it....
Calling for rain tonight and maybe in the morning,so we might sit a DB blind in the morning for turkey(or deer) to keep dry.Needless to say I'm ready
Update tomorrow....
-
Curt, Good luck bro! If them two old farts show up, please slap em and give em a hug for me.

Welcome to Kansas Curt. I wish I had the time to come up and meet you.

So far it looks like the old farts are gonna be there. Just gotta coordinate a meeting place.... Go kill somethin with horns Chad!! ;) :wavey:
-
Good luck to you guys...Curt, Tracy and the old farts, Vance and Charlie...I'll be going down to supervise Chad this week so watch for the pics of the big boy. :bigsmyl:
-
Charlie,Don't go crazy bud....I certainly understand if you have a lot going on.....Tracy's gonna figure something out.....I know he said something about both of you coming here for a day or so.....
This morning we braved weather, terrible thunder storms and hard rain throughout the morning....only option was to sit in a DB blind...saw some turkeys, but nothing close.....it is absolutely pouring out right now!!!!! :scared:
-
Tracy- let me know how you guys do over there. Not sure if I could help. I am hunting a few miles from you. I passed up a unique buck last night- decent 4 on one side with a mangled spike with points on the other- he had a knotted back leg joint. Really good bodied buck- maybe even a 3 yr old. Saw a 125-130 5 x 5 tonight (40 yds) along with a few does and two other bucks. There was yet another buck in the timber making all the others nervous as I could hear him beating on trees and brush. Lots of turks.
Good hunting
Dan
-
When the rain stops....watch out!!!
-
The rain stopped Charlie and Curt has a story to tell :D
We had a good first day once the rain stopped.

Looks like we're gonna have the best of company toward the end of the week....gonna be the highlight of the trip for both me and Tracy...more tomorrow.....

-
TradGang needs a SEND OUT laptop with an Air Card for just such obsessions.
Tryin to get a 3 party put together goin here, sure hope this works
-
Ok fellas.....this is Curt...I'll do the best I can but we have no pix yet. Just sent some off to vance to see if he can get them posted for us,then we can explain them. The video is awesome, but we just can't seem to do anything with it,won't load on PB(dail-up),and we can't get it sent to Vance.I guess the file's just too big. If anyone has any suggetions, fire away....
Day one(Sat.).....
Well you saw the one pic earlier, torrential rain, but we did see some turkeys. Wouldn't come close enough to do anything with. In the afternoon we headed back to the blind to sit together and try to get a shot at a turkey or doe(a buck would do just fine too). We were almost immediately into turkeys,BIG gobblers too! First few went by,but shortly after another lone gobbler showed up looking for his buddies. He was huge! I used my voice to give him some gobbler yelps and he was coming. We had him fired up,even gobbled at about 30yds. But as he came he saw Tracy move in the blind,we'd forgotten to close the window behind him :knothead: . He went off putting......
Soon another group of giant longbeards show up,I call, they come. But wouldn't come any closer than about 17yds,and when one putted,I knew it was now or never....shot right over his back! The arrow and tracker flew great through the netting of the recurve model BS5 Double Bull blind. This turkey was easily the tallest bird I've ever shot at! We had a good laugh when I made a remark about us being like Abbott and Costello in the blind
In a little while Tracy saw another group off in the distance...6 gobblers. I called and they answered and started in(we have this all on video). They came in to 8 yds and I shot though the screen. The arrow blew through him, just a little off, but not bad.He runs taking string and it looks like he's gonna die after about 30yds. But he starts off again and he's limping as quick as he could, but he was hurtin'! He quickly ran out the string as I hadn't replaced an old spool. It didn't have nearly as much left as I thought it would have. That first miss certainly didn't help!
He went about 50 more yds and stopped only to get flogged by all his buddies. I really think he would have died right there but after his throttling by his buddys he was up again and out of sight.....We waited a while and right beofre dark, we started to follow what string we had and a spotty blood trail, but we didn't find him. We'd have to wait for the morning to look again. We knew there was a chance that something else would find him first...but we really had no choice......
Day 2.....
We headed to one of Tracy's best spots for deer for a short hunt in the morning, but the hot weather had deer movement at a minimum..we saw nothing. We headed back to try to find the turkey. Tracy's son Tress found the first indicator of what happened....feathers....
Apparently during the night a bobcat or coyotes had found the bird and eat almost everything. The only thing we found was a couple bones and feathers....but I did find some of the beard. I was heart broken :( ......more later.....Man I wish we had some pix :banghead:
-
Man, sorry to hear about the turkey. Just the way it goes sometimes. Sounds like there are plenty more out there. Good luck the rest of the week and keep us posted.
Bill
-
Curt and Tracy,
Sounds like fun! I'm here in Montana working and you two "knuckleheads" are living the life in Kansas. Have a great hunt and I look forward to more tales of adventure. Curt, please save a turkey and big buck for me...
Peter
-
Thanx Bill
Peter ol' bud....There's a ton of big turkeys around, and all the big deer are hiding in this heat.....you my friend are in for a hell of a hunt...stands will all be set and it'll be colder......I'm a bit jealous that you'll be here at "prime time"!!
Tracy's says, "tell him I've got his knucklehead"
Well I almost had the 1st leg of the triple crown....
So we decided in the 85 degree heat of the afternoon we'd hunt the DB again....to our amazement...it was getting to be about time that we hoped some deer would show up and we hadn't seen a single turkey
I told Tracy that maybe this is a sign that tonight will be a deer night....it would prove to be just that.....
soon we'd hear a deer walking and the first one to come in was a button buck, but we were hoping for a nice doe so our guests later in the week wouldn't go hungry ;) . The next deer in would not dissappoint....a big ol' doe. Then two more little one's. Tracy had the camera rolling again and when the big gal quartered slightly away at about 8yds I drew the carbonwood with tracker still attatched to anchor and released.....man I wish you could see the video
-
hey curt, sounds like you guys are really doin some damage down there, sounds like a blast. cant wait to see some pics and videos.
-
Their back out at em....I'll put these up now they can explain later :goldtooth:

-
Dang, whopper of a doe!
I like the mangled tail feather shot. Funny!
Whatever ate that turkey got all of it didn't it?
Hey Tracy, gather up all those wing feathers and stuff 'em in the box with my arrows when ya send 'em. No hurry. I know you got more important things to do.
-
Damn, you two "knuckleheads" sure look good in that Sitka Gear! That is one big doe.
One question: Who set up that DB...I hope ol' Tracy doesn't expect me to set one up, cuz as you know I am DB set up impaired!
Have fun guys!
Peter
-
Now that's a nice doe! Congrats.
-
curt, yor face in the second picure with nothing but feathers is priceless, and WOW!! that is one big doe. you get a weight on that tanker? congrats

-
Curt,
Nice doe.
Killing me with the turkey feathers. LOL
Have you seen a Kansas buck yet? I mean a ground slobbering hoss yet? Living and hunting PA just makes me yearn for Kansas or Iowa or Missouri...
Enjoy the rest of your time in Kansas.
JD
-
What a monster! That's got to be the biggest doe I've ever seen. (Either that or you guys ought to sell your photography tricks to Check Adams)
Congratulations!
Now keep it coming!
-
Just heard there may have been a turkey or two tagged today. Congrats guys!
TH
-
Great job guys.
Sounds like Tracy has that place figured out like the back of his hand.
Great shooting.
Chris
-
Thanks guys...we're having a blast!! Hardly any deer yet , but the turkeys are keeping us busy!
Yeah, she was a big ol' horse headed girl....
The snuffer took her almost perfect at the slight angle and slammed into the far shoulder. The bllod trail was surprisingly sparce. As we followed we couldn't believe that with a snuffer the blood trail was so light. I also noticed that what blood was hitting the ground wasn'r lung blood. But the string made it easy to go right to her. When we found her we found all the blood. It was all over her and around her, she'd gone about 150yds. Vance has a picture, but not sure I want to post it...very graphic!! :scared: We later found out that the shot had cut the trachea and arteries abouve the heart and just nicked the front of the lungs. I'll have to post the video's when I get home.
It was awesome to have Tracy right there with me sharing everything. We're sure having a great time. It was also nice to have young Tress and his friend Daniel there for the short drag! :goldtooth:
This morning we hunted a double set tree stand. We saw a bobcat, but no deer again. This afternoon our plan was to hunt apart for the first time. I took a deer stand and Tracy hit the DB.
I saw a couple deer at a distance that where on to me. Little did I know what Tracy was up to.....I'll let him tell the rest....
-
Way to go my Friend.
Danny
-
Good job guys!
-
Curt, nice doe. Congratulations. We do have some big old deer around here don't we? My buddies from back in MD and WV are amazed everytime they see our midwest deer. It is nice to have the young guys around to haul them out of the woods.
-
Congrats Bro! That doe is huge. Now Tracy, get on with it.. We need details!
-
Thanks guys...Curt here
We sent some pix off the Vance so I'm sure Tracy will tell his tale soon. I will say this, he did real good! He doubled on two awesome critters.....the rest is up to him.....
Hopefully we'll start seeing some deer soon.....
-
Well, It has been a little frustrating trying to find were the deer have all gone. We are seeing a few but not like I am used to,There are rubs and scrapes around but the bucks are like ghost for some reason.Curt is such a good guy and a very good hunter but you all know that.
We thought we would split up last night to cover more ground so I dropped Curt off at the clearing and headed up to the ridge. There were turkeys every where when I pulled in the driveway so I decided to sit in the DB blind instead.
The turkeys were really talking up in the timber. I Heard some coming in from the left and it was a big group of mature toms. They came right in and gave me a 7 yard shot. :D
The big tom dropped like a rock as the arrow passed through him. A little high but it took him through the spine and he never moved when he hit the ground.
The other birds only spooked a little and one started to come over and see what was wrong with his buudy. Hey, I might get another shot, Man I wish Curt was here to see this.
I got all excited and forgot to pick a spot and shot right over his back. :( About that time the first bird flapped a little and they all started back like they do to stomp on him. They same bird was facing away at 7 yards I picked a spot on his spine and let here fly.
The shot was awsome and broke his back clean and he dropped right in his tracks to. :archer:
-
Way to go Tracy! Can't wait for the pics. Ya'll are fixin to get more rain so I'd hunt every dry minute you get in the next coupla days.
-
Way to go you guys...
Looks like another good morning for hunting today.
Stay safe and have some more fun.

Tracy
-
Jeremy, Thanx again for the knife you made for me to give to Tracy...he loves it and it's sure is a work of "functional art". Hardly enough of a thank you for what he and his family are doing for me. But it's a start :notworthy:
I had a great morning on stand....it was cool 50 degrees with a consistant south wind. Saw five does and could have shot two of them. Just wasn't ready to give up my spot yet.Besides it was nice to have live decoys out there in front of me....
I'll get some more pix to Vance...thanx again bud

Awesome story guys, keep it coming, I think it is going to get better yet......

-
Good Hunting! You guys are tearing em up. That doe should have some giant loin cuts, what a hoss! Fine double on turkeys and anchored both of them, nice. Hope you are half the fun it looks like from the pictures.

Congrats Curt and Trapper...... looks like some great bird hunting in KS...... Really enjoying the stories and photo's.... Keep them coming!

I'm glad you like the knife Tracy. By the looks of it you fellas are giving it a good workout!
Keep the stories coming! :)

This is a great story. Thanks, keep it coming.

Today was spent moving and brushing in another blind, setting another stand with climbing stickin "the funnel", and putting up a ladder stand on the edge of a bean field.
The stand is right on a creek bed that seperates the beans from a standing corn field. Tracks, rubs,a couple small scrapes, and a nice trail the deer are using to go between the two crop fields. Might even try the decoy in the morning. If the wind is right...I'm gonna go for it......Curt } >>----->
-
Congrats on the birds Tracy. :clapper:
Keep after them Curt! I'm sure you'll pull it off before all is said and done.
-
Thanx Chad....send me some of your big buck mojo bud...we'll need it! Still no bone, but we're far from done!
Strong storms today, so were gonna re-group,re-coup, and go to Cabelas this morning. Then we'll be hittin' it hard the next 4 days. But the weather is still warm.
We're hoping this bean field might produce something.... Sent vance some more pix...if he gets a chance ,he'll post them(thanx again bud). They include a couple pix of Tracy's 190" 10 pt....how many can make the claim they shot a 190" typical with a bow :notworthy:
Also some real nice pix of Tracy's 2 big gobblers from the other night.....Those were two of the biggest beards I've ever seen!
More later.... Curt } >>----->

Thanx bro...
How's that for a big 'ol buck!!!! The pix don't even come close to doing it justice...it is absolutely huge!!
The pic of the string tracker coming thru the screen is from the doe the other night. The turkey and the doe were so close to being in the same spot that the holes in the screen are actually touching.....
Tracy's 2 kill shots....one to the base of the neck where it attaches to the body and the other in the neck.....ZERO recovery yardage!!!
Off to Cabelas :clapper:
-
That buck is a PIG!! WOW! Congrats on the buck and the birds Tracy and on the huge doe Curt. Looks like you guys are having a great time. Thanks for the pics and stories.
-
Where did you guys find the midget for that hand pic?? WOW that is some serious mass right there!!!
-
Eeyup, its a toad fer sure. I've held it and he's right is way bigger in person.
Kinda makes you wonder 'bout the bucks he's got to choose from out there. I believe he told me he was watching a larger buck when that one came in to range!
Kill a big-un Curt!
-
Just so you'all know...Tracy didn't just kill that buck...it was a few yrs. back....
..I'm sure gonna try in the next few days...I still have very high hopes!!
-
Rain, rain and more rain. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
No hunting today, Even some tornado's not to far away. I think I have this figured out, Some how it leaked out that Guru was coming down and the whitetails overheard someone talking about it. Now all the big bucks have run out of the county  Maybe even the state.
Vance should get here on friday just in time to help drag out Curts deer  :goldtooth:
Tracy
-
It is wet out there today. Hopefully things will dry out tomorrow and the big bucks will be on the move. Good luck and keep us posted.
-
Tracy, went out and pull pictures off a couple trail cams. Saw a few pictures of bucks mid day, nothing large. Also go a few larger bucks, but it was WAY dark. These were taken just a few miles north of you. Also got quite a few pictues of does mid day. Pictues were all within the last two days. Maybe time for a mid day sit.
-
Thanks Mel, We will give it a try.We did some more scouting and found a very promising spot by a bean field that had alot of very large tracks. There was a some rubs and scrapes nearby also.Curt is going to give the decoy a try in the morning so we will let you guys now how we do.
Tracy
-
I'm at work and there is some pretty heavy rain and lightning headed your way tonight.Hope ya don't get any flash floods to mess things up.The up side will be that they will be moving once this passes through...
-
Go get 'em!! Thanks for this thread, it's nice to be out "huntin" with you guys.
-
OK...here's today update....
Sat on the beanfield over the decoy this morning and only saw one spike at about 7:30. He came bounding into the field and stopped. When he did I grunted and he looked over toward me. Then suddenly noticed the decoy! He never did come all the way in, but messed around at about 35yds for about 10 minutes. Got some great pix,but our picture guy Vance(Iron Bull) is actually headded this way on his way to Charlie's,to go to GA.
He should be here tomorrow mid day....really lookin' forward to that!!
After the morning hunt we went to the DB blind to see if there were any tirkeys around. I did manage to call a single lone hen in with some kee-kees and yelps...but I also managed to miss her...well I actually think she might have batted my arrow away with her wings....that's my story and I'm stickin' to it...besides the video Tracy took is blurry...so he can't prove me wrong....we had a good laugh!
But we had a better laugh when I was getting out to check my arrow and I shot a squirrel and had to chase it down....now that was a comedy act...we'll get Vance to post all the videos when he gets here....I can almost guarantee a good laugh at this one....the turkeys are kickin' my butt!!
This afternoon I went back to the bean field...the wind was very inconsistant. But I did see a coon and a little 6 pt.....Not much at all going on....but tomorrows another day...
We've got a lot more pix to post when Vance gets here..... I'll let Tracy tell you about his day..... Curt } >>------>
-
Had a Hitch in the get goin :wavey: :wavey:
-
Vance, We will give you a call when we get back from hunting.
My morning hunt was pretty slow only saw a few turkeys that busted me. There was a nice brand new scrape under the tree stand though with some real nice tracks in it, He worked it over pretty good.
On to the DB blind late morning, I don't know what it is but them turkeys are giving Curt a trouble. Sorry to say the video is a little blurry, My bad but the one of him chasing the tree rat is so funny.
The evening hunt was a little better with 6 turkeys at 30 yards but a coon came running down the hill and spooked them and himself. He ran up the tree next to me. Later I had seven does come by at thirty yards headed down Curts way,Fun night.
Tracy

Just got back from a deer hunt of my own with the world's dumbest bowhunter... apologies to Maggie's "Dumb Bunch".
Saw a lot of deer and not a doe in the bunch. Passed several "substandard" bucks and nothing close in the turkey department.
Wish I could make it up to see you guys, but things have just gotten to busy around here with Georgia coming up and the need to finish the St.Jude's Sunbear.
Hope you all understand.... can't think of anywhere I'd rather be than out there with you all! :campfire:
-
Charlie, We totally understand bud....to be honest I couldn't believe you were actually thinking about it as busy as you are with hunting and stuff. I'll see ya soon enough my friend! Hopefully Tracy will get the priveledge of shaking your hand soon also. You'll really like him Charlie, he's a "good'un"!
This morning was slow as far as deer went(for me). But while still in my stand I once again managed to call in and miss another turkey!! Man there kickin' my butt!! I'm sure getting to be the subject for a lot of comic relief for Tracy!
Did see 2 coons at daybreak also....
Tracy had a good morning that included a pretty good buck(you'll see video soon with the help of Vance). He wasn't a KS giant, but boy he's a great buck, with long tines and great mass. I'd be proud to bring him back to NY with me!!!
We did find a nice tree that might give us a chance at him(or another buck).Keep your fingers crossed for me.....
We've got alot of pix and video to catch up on soon....
We're very much looking forward to Vance's arrival!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I KNOW it wasn't Curt typing that last post....cuz he never misses ;)
Glad ya'll are having a good time...looking forward to more stories, pics, and video.

Oh it was me!! I'm starting to hate turkeys!!!!

Yep, Hen of the woods one of the best out there.Good job Jamie
Tracy
-
OK, now I officially hate turkeys!!!!!!!!!!!
No really..I HATE TURKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sat the DB this afternoon after getting another stand up in a great spot where Tracy saw the big 7 pt this morning. Wind wasn't good to hunt it and we disturbed it a bit. So we decided to sit the two blinds. I sat the DB, Tracy sat in his blind about 200yds away.
Wasn't in the blind very long when I heard some yelping up on the hill behind me. I yelped and kee-kee'd a couple times and she answered back... Game-on!
She called and I called as she closed in, and then I could see her and her friend, another hen. I was telling myself the whole time to just relax and get this done. They came in and started to pick around. She quartered away at about 7yds and I picked a spot and shot....right over her back......AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could do nothing but laugh and do a self interview for Tracy's entertainment(we'll get it posted soon).
I did have a shot at a button buck...but I wanted a mature doe, but she never came in....
Another great night in the blind...well except for my shooting......I hang my head.......
High hopes for the morning. It's gonna be about the coolest night since I've been here. Should be in the 40's in the morning......hope for a N,NW wind......
Doug, Pullin' for ya bud!!
-
Vance should be rollin' in shortly...yee haaa!!

For some reason, I'm getting a feeling that tomorrow morning is gonna be magical......
Good luck guys!

Vance is just fine....
Soory for the delay, but yesterday was about spending time with Vance, enjoying his company, and sharing something pretty cool.....
Heading out for my last morning hunt in KS....we'll catch up today....
Vance can't get "hooked up" here, so pix and videos will have to wait till he gets to Charlie's.....he's leaving to get there this afternoon......
Curt } >>-------->
-
Good luck bro! Let us know what happens!
-
At least I know now where he is.
Saying Vance is "just fine" may be a stretch. :D
-
Charlie, you are teaching theese boys too well on dramatic story telling. LOL. Come on guys we are waiting!!!!!!
-
for sure they have been hanging out with Charlie to long.... :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
-
Well, Vance just got on the road headed Charlie's way. What a pleasure it was to have him stop by,I hate good buy's but I know we will get togather again someday. Vance, You know you are welcome at my house anytime big guy. :)
The comedy act showed back up today and this time it was Curt's turn to laugh at me. What a morning first my truck's gas gauge is messing up and I need to take it to the dealer. So guess what? I ran out of gas coming into town :knothead: So then I get a can of gas and were on the way again still with plenty of time.
Then we pull in the drive way and there stands three deer, All does so we pull around the corner and I shine my light's toward the blind and there is a small 8 pointer and another deer standing in front of it. Alright the deer are moving a little.
Well we get out and I put on my pack and reach into the back of the truck for my bow and guess what? You got it I forgot my bow :knothead: Gosh dang it, Can I start this day over yet.
Well, About 9:00 am the turkeys start talking and then fly down off the roost about sixty yards away, Cool. Maybe I can salvage this morning yet, They start feeding my way all hens six of them. We can take 4 turkeys in the fall so the hunt is on. They feed right in to about ten yards and there was a nice one at six. I take my time and pick a spot and release, As if you didn't know, Right over here back  They fly up and come right back down. Hey another shot
Tracy
-
Sounds like a great day Tracy! Everyone has those days, some more than others :banghead:
Thanks for the updates, pics and such, they help with those of us who don't have much to hunt right now. We can hunt through your hunts. Thanks!! Good luck to you and Curt!
-
Well I FINALLY get to laugh a little at Tracy! :biglaugh:
Let's back up a bit.......
After a late night visiting with Vance(What an awesome guy), Tracy and I were up early headed to our stands.
I headed to a new stand we put up by where Tracy saw the big 7 the previous morning. My approach was perfect and I was up in the stand quietly, and I settled in.Wind was blowing pretty hard, and from an "ok" direction, not perfect, but not real bad either.
Great morning but not much to see except squirrels. The at 8:30 I suddenly hear crashing and running sounds over the wind noise. As I grab my bow a doe comes running top speed into view and I immediatly see another doe behind her. This first doe is by far the biggest doe I've ever seen in my life!! She had the body of a mature buck and the skinny neck of a doe. Her body was so deep that her legs looked too short for her body. She smoked by without me even getting chance to do anything. So I turned back to find the other doe that was trailing, but I couldn't find her. For a few seconds I figured she'd gone off another way while I was watching the other doe. But I keep thinking that a buck might be the reason these does are running. But nothing shows up after about a minute. As I search I see that the second doe is still 30yds from me behind a screen of brush. She starts to walk the direction the way the other had gone, but that puts her downwind.Up goes her nose, but she continued. I think the wind had her confused, and my scent ritual didn't give her enough to figure things out.
I already have my bow in my hand as she moves in very cautiously. This whole time I've decided to try for her,but am checking to make sure a buck isn't behind. With the string hooked, and my grip relaxed, I draw as she's slowly stepping through an opening. I make a barely audible noise and she stops. At 8yds the white and chart. feathers are a blurr as they disappear exactly where I'm looking. She kicks and bolts, but I watch knowing it won't be a long run. Within seconds I see her fall after making it about 50yds...... I'll be back...
Curt } >>----->
-
Wow! After all the years the feeling still hasn't faded a bit.....I just love it!
I sit down to relax, and I see legs moving under the trees...."this has got to be the buck!"
But it wasn't...another doe. She also comes cautiously in and stops right where the other one was, but I grabbed my camera instead. At this point I do something I've never done before in a deer stand. I do a self video inteview of of what I was feeling. It was all about sharing this with Tracy and bro Vance! Hopefully Vance can get it posted, if not I'll do it when I get home.
I called Tracy to let him know what was going on and he'd be up to me at 10:00. The whole time I'm thinking how we can get Vance here to get him in on all this. But Tracy already had it covered. At about 10:10 I see Tracy coming, and he had Vance with him!!!!!!! Alright !!! :jumper:
The next hour or so was one of I'll remember forever. We shared something pretty special. We have lots of pix to share.......
The rest of the day was spent enjoying each other company. A great day!!!!
