During these past few days, while touching base with James Berry I was informed that Leo Markert, known by the TG'ers as "Longbowleo" has been hospitalized and is being treated for an agressive cancer.
James talked with Leo's wife Mary this morning and asked if it would be okay to rally the Trad Gang family for much needed support.
She said that all your thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Yes Frank, that is true and unfortunately many here at TG don't know him. James Berry has known him through personal contact for many years.
I have known him only through his posts since 2003 but see him as one that has and always been weaving into the fabric of the Trad world the colors of history and significant facts that tend to wash out over time.
Leo, hang in there!!

Whatever your religion or belief, you live on in the memory of your family and friends. Obviously, Leo is a man who's made a positive impact on many other good folks. We should all hope to leave such a legacy. I don't pray in the way many do, but I firmly believe in a higher power and that goodness is rewarded in the end. But, it's easier to just say that I'm praying for you, Leo - and I am.

Just heard on another site that he lost the battle. A great loss for not only his family and friends, but the archery community and anyone who interacted with Leo as well.
Prayed and will continue to pray....

Nobody gets outa here alive...
But everyone's passing leaves a hole in each of us, diminishes us in some way, while their memories hopefully add to our dimension in this realm.
God knows the man, the heart and his family's needs, may they all be lifted up and know that Peace that passes all earthly understanding...
Our prayers, for the family and friends.
It is always sad to hear of the loss of a fellow sportsman. Prayers for the peace that only God can bring to his family and friends.

Thank you Leo for your friendship. RIP
RIP Leo.
I got to speak to Leo on the phone once last year. We chatted about bows and things for a good bit. Super guy, passionate archer and a patriot. Leo was old school in the best way. From what I know he's been a longtime presence on the online trad' scene and I know he will be missed. He had archer friends across the country.
Hope you're enjoying wild adventure with a heavy stringfollow ASL on the happy hunting ground buddy!!

Sorry to hear of Leo's passing. I never met him but enjoyed several phone conversations with him. Life goes by fast.
Prayers sent for Friends and Family. RC
Some of the best money i ever spent was on my phone bills for the long distance calls with Leo.
We talked about everything from shooting heavy longbows,to politics to raising teenagers in this crazy time of technology.
The world has lost a lot of wisdom, grit, and a true character.
Sorry to hear of Leo's passing.
I spent an evening at his house shooting bows many years ago.He was an imposing man physically and had a stength and determination about him that was unmistakable. He loved longbows and had quite a few beautiful bows to admire. Most were too heavy for me.He was naturally very strong.Leo looked like the type of guy you would want in a fox hole with you.
I enjoyed my evening and met his wife and daughter. His daughter was bright and intelligent and his wife gracious.
My condolensces to the family. You have lost a beloved father, husband and protector.Keep him close to your heart.
Peace Leo

Yes, Peace.
I didn't know Leo but recall his earlier postings, and that he had a passion for 'old-school' archery ways and gear...something admirable and in short supply these days. Condolences to his family. If there's a life hereafter I'm sure Leo will still be hauling around a longbow and some arrows there...it's addicting, you know. :)
Leo and I talked about Harrison bows a lot. Bought a few and now regret not getting the ballen backed bow last month. Sad day.
God Speed....prayers for the family.
Rest in please Leo  prayers for comfort to the family.
Leo was a man of strength, both in body and character. Even in later years he was shooting bows that I could not pull if I sat down, put my feet on the handle and pulled with both hands.
Prayers for his family!
I remember meeting Leo and going to his home to buy arrows 20+ years ago. He was a fine archer.
Our prayers as well
Prayers for strength and healing for Him and his Family.
My condolences to the family and may Leo rest in peace> I'll miss his emails and his kind ways.
And as he always signed:
