Title: PSR Fever
Post by: Dsturgisjr on April 11, 2015, 04:36:00 PM
After being stuck in some blinds on a few out of country hunts "that had plenty of room for a longbow" I decided to try a Black Widow PSR out as I never cared for short longbows. After receiving a 60" 64# PSR I discovered I really liked the way it shot and handled.

My Dad gave me a longbow at the age of 3 but the rest of the time through my teenage years I shot a recurve and the PSR reminded me of that time in my life, Fred Bear etc.

Nice, I have a PSRX and a PLX with the Toby grip and love them both.

The more I shot the PSR the more I liked it and ordered another 64#er for back up.

I even warned the woodchucks to stay out of the garden!

Even the red squirrels were excited about my new bows!  :)

The bows are very smooth and shoot like a much longer model.

I have a Black and White Ebony PLX coming here in the next week or so and have a few PLX longbows already that I love to shoot. I believe that my next bow is going to be a PSR. Denny what do you like about the PSR versus the PLX. Do they shoot similar?

Ron, I've shot the PLs since they came out and the  LAGs before that and decided the PSR is the longbowman's recurve.

Looks quite productive for you!

Although, I think you would get it done with whatever bow you happened to pick up!

I notice you shoot 3under. Do you shoot your LB the same? Do you notice any bow hand shock? That bow has been one I have always conveneted why the questions. I saw your bow in BW catalog and it is a real good looker.

Bisch, thanks for the good thoughts, but the same old familiar grip and take down system made me comfortable as I'm not a big bow switcher type. .... Not smart enough!  :)

I like my PSRs so much that I decided to order one for my wife, Marie. She started the season with a huge doe shot with her SA.

Her new bow didn't arrive until Nov.

M60gunner, I'm shooting 3 under on both models until 50 yards when I switch to split.

Marie didn't get a shot at a buck until New Years Eve. She could have went out to an exclusive, expensive restaurant for a romantic dinner, but she opted for a single digit sit in a treestand bordering a standing cornfield. When she texted she had shot I let go to fill my last doe tag and scored also.

It was a great way to bring in another year!  :)

I have a Cape buffalo hunt booked for this Summer and called Roger and Toby from Black Widow to order a special heavier PSR. A few weeks later this arrived.....

Real nice wood combo, I like the spliced veneers. I notice it is a real man's bow, 74#. That takes me back 20 years when I had my 80# MA. Good luck with your hunt. By the way those Buffs heads are armor plated.

I've had some very beautiful bows over the years, but I've never been scared to give them a little squirt of camo paint until now.   :)

Yes that is an elevated rest! Why? Because that is what I used in my teens, Barry Wensel has been known to use one along with Paul Schafer, and I can wear a warm glove when hunting in cold weather. The shelf is an awesome rest, but to me an elevated is awesome too.

Good luck out there.   :)

Hey Denny, I'm happy to see this post. I picked up a used PSR about 5 years ago. I shot a Robin  Hood with the first few arrows. I sold it and sorry that I did. I acquired another beauty that you may recognize.

I put a post on the widow wall about quivers on PSRs. I seem to shoot them better than other bows that I own. I'm also glad that you included a pic of an elevated rest. I put them on my others, but didn't on this one. I may give it a whirl!!  I'll have this one out with me in may!!

Hey Sean, my Dad had to switch to lefty a few years ago because of pain. He is shooting a LH PSR most of the time now though!   :)

Nobody makes a better shelf than BW, but I just felt like a change after 30+ years of longbows.

You got that right!!  Roger snd Toby brought  a bunch of different Widows each time we went to Maine, and I gotta say they are all great shooters. I'm going to have them make me a take down PSR at some point.

Sean, that bow looks familiar. It was my first PSR. Have owned the 56 inch, the 58 inch, and now a 60 inch PSR. Loved them all but at my age and strength love the smooth draw of the 60 inch model. Son bought me a 60 inch LH PSR a while back and at 43# is doing the job for me on white tails. Hope it is up to some turkeys this spring.  Denny Sturgis Sr

Thank you for posting Mr Stugis. My first was a 56, and I liked it a lot. But I had a PCH on order, so I stayed with that. I'm sorry that I sold it. Your old bow was offered to me after a post I put on the BW site. It's shooting great for me!!!   After this post, I may give Toby a call to talk about another.

I've always been a big fan of Black Widow bows and have owned a few over the years and still own my PASX in Osage and my PLX.

When I ordered my longbow I opted for the older LAG grip as I like a fuller plam swell and have no real problems switching back and forth form longbow to curve.

Thanks for posting Denny, always keen to see your adventures unfold here and in TBM. Keep us in the loop on your buff hunt mate.

BW says the 60" is good to 32". I have a 60" that I draw to 30" and it's smooth as butter.

I draw out to 31" and find the even the 58" is pretty smooth.  The 60" is even smoother.

I just got done shooting mine, MAN is that thing a tack driver!!!  After seeing Denny and Marie's bows, it's hard to stop thinking about a new take down. But I think I'm just going to send mine back to The Widow Boys to have it skinned with Eastern D'back  and inlays put on. Kinda make it "Mine". AFTER turkey season of course!!!   :goldtooth:
