Hex-7H limbs and 17" riser, shedua, with rosewood stripe, makes a 60" bow. Would have prefered, rosewood riser with shedua stripe, but this one was in stock, so i took it. (http://i.imgur.com/DfPmefE.jpg)

Sid at Border forgot to send me a stringer, so i called his wife one day and she said she would send one, been a couple weeks, hope it gets here soon. i unstrung it a couple times to set braceheight, but i was not liking it, there is so much curl in the limbs, the stringer wants to push the bottom string loop off, its scarey.

Very Nice,  It looks smoking fast just leaning against that tree.  Just my 2 cents, I love that riser.  The Sids Definitely know their way around a bow.

You might want to try a Thunderhorn bowstringer for that one.Coool bow!

How's the sound level on the new 7's?? Honest assessment?  I had a set of Hex6BB2's for a bit and through various tuning cycles I always found them not very quiet, perhaps it was the metal risers I tried them on?  Wonder if these 7's on a wood riser like that are acceptable.  How would you compare the sound and limb feel post shot to the 1pc Phoenix?

If you are using a a recurve stringer with a pocket on one end and a rubber saddle on the other. Put the lower string in the groove and use a rubber band to hold the string in place on the limb. That works very good on these super hook bows....

BTW.... do not ever try using a tip to tip stringer on a recurve bow.... It will ruin a perfectly good set of limbs.

Now THAT'S a HOOK mate!

That bow has the most incredible DFC chart i've ever seen. The engineering has to be admired....

Pretty sporty looking riser too.

nine worlds- i have the HEX6 BB2 limbs on my border in my signature. i too find them a little more noisy but not terrible. i could try putting more silencers on it but that would sacrifice the performance i bought it for so what's the point.

nice bow BTW

She sure is pretty! Those hooks are intense! I'm curious how they compare to a less radical working tip, or a standard static tip (if there is such a thing)? Details man! How does it feel/shoot?

It seems every Border I see with Hex series limbs and now the covert too have limb savers on the limbs...is there a viberation that is inherent with the hex series limbs?

Seems odd that the majority of the ones I've seen have them in relatively the same location.

Great looking setup you have there!...been wanting to try a covert since they came out...only heard excellent things bout them.

My limbs are used and they came with the limbs avers on, so I just left them. There is some humming in the limbs after the shot, so I would say they are probably a good Idea, that's carbon I guess. When I get done work today I will share some opinions on the bow.

well i have had this bow a couple weeks now and i really like it. I thought it to be quite noisey at first, i had a d97 string on it. So i made a new 18 strand BCY-x loops padded to 24, put some cat whiskers on, turned braceheight to 6 3/4 and it seemed to quiet down considerably, there is a hum to the limbs right after the shot, but its something i got used to pretty quick. I dont think its as quiet as my one piece Phoenix, but it is every bit as smooth, and maybe a tad smoother. My Phoenix is fast, but i think the Covert Hunter gets the edge here, the Covert is a few less lbs, but you would never know it, its fast and smooth. I have the med limbs and 17" riser, which makes a 60" bow, and strung this bow is 53.5", no finger pinch what so ever, only thing is 17" riser only has a 2 1/4" sight window, something to keep in mind if you are buying one, i had to move my anchor from my mouth to my cheekbone, which actually works better for me. The covert hunter is all its cracked up to be.

i believe mine was $825, assuming you mean the Phoenix. They are sweet bows, i have the first 1 pc phoenix, and the first Firehawk, which is his 3pc t/d longbow, and i am fortunate to have both.

That is a beautiful bow. I don't have limb savers on mine and mine doesn't seem to vibrate much. Once I got it tuned it got really quiet. I am shooting it better than any bow I have shot. I have my brace height set at 7 3/16" and my bow is a 62".

"Kirk, explain how the tip to tip stringers would ruin a recurve. Just curious".

So, you should always use the stringers with the rubber top limb blocks?
Title: Re: new Covert Hunter
Post by: The Whittler on April 12, 2015, 12:31:00 PM
I have been useing cup stringers for over 25 years and never had an issue/problem.

I would think the stringers with two cups pulling on the limb tips would be no different then you pulling the string to shoot your bow. You are pulling that string thousands of times.

I hope Kirk comes on and explains I would like to know also.
Title: Re: new Covert Hunter
Post by: Hoyt on April 12, 2015, 01:04:00 PM
I think the easiest way for deep hooks is use both feet on string and spread them wide. Use cup on one end and rubber pad or rubber lined loop on other end.
Title: Re: new Covert Hunter
Post by: cch on April 12, 2015, 01:09:00 PM
You wouldn't be able to string a hex limb with a tip cup style stringer as you would have to pull it so far to get it strung you would be over drawing the bow and putting too much stress on them. Border sends a saddle type stinger with their bows.  On standard recurve limbs I always just used the push pull method with no stringer.
Chris.

CCG, could you elaborate on the saddle type stringer. I not sure what it is or maybe just forgot, age is creeping up on me. :-) thanke you.

http://www.3riversarchery.com/Limbsaver+Recurve+Bow+Stringer_i5096_baseitem.html
saddle type stringer.

Those big hooks on the super recurve would allow for a lot of torque/twisting pressure if not EXTREMELY careful pulling perfectly in line with a cup stringer.

Katman has posted a link to one but the one Border sends you is a nylon web with a hood on one end and a loop on the other with some rubber material to keep it from slipping.

Asking someone if a bow is worth a thousand more than another is not really fare. You can say that just about any bow. Most people can shoot a Sage bow just as well as a 2000$ bow. A bow is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The Covert Hunter is probably the fastest on the market and fit and finish is second to none. Is a Ferrari worth 800,000 more than a corvette? Some think so.
Chris.

If I was asking someone who doesn't own both bows, that may be unfair. Moosh owns quite a few bows it seems like and he knows what he's talking about. I really don't think I'm asking a newbie here. I asked for his honest opinion and he gave it. I've heard that "a bow is worth how much someone will pay for it" a million times and I guess that rings true in some cases BUT there is a lot of bows out there that ARE NOT worth what someone paid for them.  I have nothing against border and I'm not knocking any company. I just wanted a straight answer from a guy who owns both bows and I got it. I'm sorry you didn't like my question.

No disrespect CCH but he wasn't asking you, or anyone else, for their opinion. He was asking Mooshkat. He has and has shot both bows and his opinion is as educated and fair as anyone's. I happen to agree with Mooshkat but he wasn't asking me.

Well we do have to consider a couple things here, one is i bought the limbs used, and at a good price, i did have to buy a new riser, so i have about 1550 in the bow, which is still enough, but about 350 less than a new one. Secondly, i sold a bow and a set of limbs to purchase this bow, so i didnt have to set down and write that big check, which to me its seem to make it easier to purchase those higher priced bows, if that makes any sense. It is a great bow, and to me it was worth the bows i sold to get the CH. Here is the new Thunderhorn, Duawne made to match the bow.  (http://i.imgur.com/AtOv0oQ.jpg)

I have 2 Covert Hunters , one 42# and one 38# .They are both quiet .The Covert Hunter has a forward grip which help my shooting .The limbs are very easy to string with the right stringer .I would say that it is by far the best bow I have ever shot . I think the only limbs that come close to the Hex-7 in looks are the Uukha VX1000 ,Limbs $899 same as the Hex-7.The Hex-7 and Covert Hunter are not like any other recurve .As for price ,in this case you get what you pay for ! and they are very fast

The quiver is a small sidewinder, the wt is 44@28 on a 19" riser and mine is a 17" riser so i guess it would gain a couple lbs. Hi grayfeather, we havent talked lately, i am liking my new CH, it sucks stringing it tho. Sid was suppose to send a stringer with the riser which he didnt, so i called his wife, and she was going to send me one, well its been 3weeks and no stringer yet, my guess is i am not getting one. You wouldnt have an extra you could sell me , do ya? I will pay extra for it just to get one.

Hay there . Nice bow . The stringer with a pocket on one end and the rubber arrow head on the other end workes great . It can be bought from most traditional archery stores . I have a 60" 46# and like it very much . I have a set of 40# limbs on the way .I have owned or shot most of the high-end bows and the CH is in a class of it's own . Good luck and enjoy .

May life's simplest things bring you the greatest pleasures !!!

well i have shot my CH exclusively for the last week or so. Today i took out one of my bear t\\d, after that my Phoenix WS, all i can say is, this CH is by far the smoothest bow i have ever drawn, every bow that i shoot now seems like it stacks to me, both bows felt like they were 10# heavier, and the last few inches of the draw felt like the bows were stacking.I have shot many bows in the 30 yrs i have been shooting trad, and nothing compares to this Covert Hunter.

I am currently trying to buy  set of Border Hex limbs for my ILF.
How much longer did you have to go on a string for the bow?
Title: Re: new Covert Hunter
Post by: mooshkat on April 19, 2015, 09:46:00 AM
On the covert hunter, string length is 1" shorter than bow length, 60" bow takes a 59" string. But that is not true with all hex limbs, and ilf may also be different.
Title: Re: new Covert Hunter
Post by: cch on April 19, 2015, 11:44:00 AM
The hex limbs sure spoil you on the smoothness. The CH limbs even more so. Now it feels like my hex 6 limbs stack on me.

On my DAS with hex6 limbs m string is 2" shorter.
