Title: String/serving recommendation
Post by: Chapbutler on April 08, 2015, 08:36:00 AM
I have begun making Flemish twist strings for my bows using B55.  While 2 of my bows are FF safe, I continue to prefer the Dacron material.

My question is--Using 16 strands of B55, what serving would you recommend in order to come close on arrow nock fit?  I have Halo but in a larger diameter, 0.024 I believe.  Would it be possible to drop down to the 0.018 and and arrive whee I would prefer to be?  Or should I drop a couple of strands down to a 14 strand B55 string?

I am open to your suggestions and personal preferences and experiences on this one.

The bow wt is 48 at 30" and I draw 30 inches.

Thanks in advance.

I would use either 12 or 14 strands of B-55 for that draw weight bow.  Try a 14 strand string with your existing serving and see how the nocks fit.

B55 is slightly larger in diameter per strand then B50.I used a .014 Halo on my 14 strand B55 which gives me the nock fit I want.On a 14 strand B50 I used a .018 No. 62.I would drop a couple of strands,as 14 strands I more then enough for upto 60#.

12 strands at that weight.

#62 is fine and or use #4 nylon. Nylon still works fine in my opinion!

12 strands of B55 with .019 Halo works well with the Bearpaw glue on nocks I'm currently using. If you're shooting carbons, you'd probably get better fit (I like mine to just lightly snap on) with .017.

B-55 is my favorite , 12 strands is good up to about 50# . l go to 14 @ 50# cause it just is more comfortable . 16 strands @ 60# .
I use .018" on all my strings and use the hot water method to fit my knocks .

I just use fishing line for my serving. Use different pound test for different diameter.

For a 12 strand I use .018 62 sx. Be warned, .018 in power grip, halo, and sx will all vary in size. More than you could imagine.
