It's going to cool down some for the opening weekend. I'm ready! good luck to all Trad Gangers.

Im ready to take my first trad deer. I cant wait. Now if the wife will just have the baby so I dont feel THAT guilty about being in the stand opening day..... :biglaugh:
I have five stands hung, three trees already set up for the climber, and a few ground blinds made. Im hunting the wind....any wind. LOL.
The weather should be cooler, it is here today, and the rain seems to be forcasted. Either way, I will hopefully be out there.
Good luck to all.

Good luck next weekend fellas. I'll be headed to camp on Fri. afternoon down around New Hope. The sign has been good this year and a couple of nice bucks have been hanging around the area of my tree stands.
-
Hey Mike....good luck to you and "Team Pink". I hope to spend some time hunting with you and the rest of the guys this year, even if it is just for bunnies(a blast!). Hopefully we can getout into the deer woods too....Good luck.

Tell ya what Jamie. If it gets cool enough I'll wear my JLMBH Pink Fuzzy Hat with Turkey Feathers and Pink and White Beads. (In honor of Joe Skipp) How does that grab ya?

PS: You are welcome to come hunt with me/us anytime.

I'm looking for fish skins to back some bows with if any of you fellow New Yorkers catch any big ones give me yell. I'd take some skins off your hands.
-
Ahhh Dang thats a super idea....the spotted back of a brown trout or the silver sides of a steelie would be scweeet looking...I dont kill many fish, but if I do I'll keep you in mind.
-
John - where around new Hope? One of the Bear Swamp camps? Grew up there near Carpenters Falls and fishing summers in the mill pond. Still live just one hill west in Niles.

I have 56 stand sites ready to go and I will be out there for sure. I am not gonna hunt many mornings early this year as I think ya educate to many deer but I have the Nov. 3rd. through the 19th. off, so it should be good! Shawn
-
Did you say 56 stands sites is that tree stands? Or is it 5-6 stands LOL thats alot of sites. Good Luck
-
Rico, I have 56 stand sites ready to hunt. Most sites use a bracket system but about 20 have portable stands and a few have permanent stands, I have cut back from maintaining over 100 stand sites, I used to maintain that many and did not hunt some for 4-5 years at a time, but they were always ready and cut out so I could hunt at any time. Good luck everybody!!!I'll be out in the AM but have a surprise 25th anniversary party to attend in the evening so I'm not sure if I'll hunt the evening or not, probably not.
Planing on hunting most from the ground this yr still shooting my hummingbird LB.I may break down and shoot my own BH's from the ground too which I haven't done except practice before for fear of loosing 1 after it blows out the off side of the deer I shoot at LOL
Be safe!
-
Hi Steve, yeah..one of the Bear Swamp camps. Been hunting donw that way for about 16yrs. now.
We've taken quite a few really nice deer out of there over the years. In the last couple of years the Yote population has really exploded down there. Sitings during the day are not uncomon any more. If I play my cards right I just may arrow a dog or two. Good luck this year.
JOHN
-
Same to you John. Seen some nice deer come out of there over the years. Funny thing about the yotes - as close as I am to you, sitings are rare recently. Went back near a gutpile last year after 6 days - pile hardly touched. 4 years ago, it would be gone by the next morning.
Guess they all moved to the swamp :D
Steve
-
Thats alot of stands and work Shawn.
-
The yotes are a big problem here are deer herd where I hunt is down by 50% easily. DEC radio collared four fawns this July and within 2 weeks three of the four were killed by coyotes in my area!! It is a lot of work but it always gives me fresh stands, I am downn from doing over 100 a few years ago. Shawn
-
good luck to all hope to be out there a good portion of the weekend.
-
Hows school going Tim?Hope all is well for you.Good luck this weekend and looking forward to the JLMBH already.
Izzy
-
Hey Izzy, school is going good, kills me being down here and not being able to get as much shooting in as i would like. how have you been, hope all is good with you as well and good luck, JLMBH will be here before you know it.
-
What's everyone waiting for? Turkey season is open!

Good to see so many trad hunters in my area. I am new to the board and new to the sport. Here in groton (north of ithaca) it has been way too warm. Only 3 days so far of freezing temps. Saw a nice 12 point 2 days ago in the cut corn next to my house and the folks at kliens archery just scored a 146 four days ago.
-
Figured I would add this:
I was watching a group of five does just about a half hour ago in my back yard. Suddenly, one ran...I looked for something that sppoked it...nothing. Then I noticed it was CHASING another doe. I whipped out the binos, sure enough a tiny little fork on the right side, bare on the left. They are chasing boys....probably just the young ones for now, but its happening. I will beout there tomorrow at some point.
-
That is welcome news Jamie....Deer sighting's down during the day, still very warm, Hopefully it will stay cool and the season will heat up.... I have seen a decent 8 pointer a couple of times so far but no shots, closest he came was 30 yards, the facing angle, and brush between us foiled me...very few white Oak acorns, a ton of pig-nuts?(little soft shell bitter nuts)that the deer are inhaling though....Good Luck...
-
Yup, it is starting. I saw a very nice buck tonight. I had him at 35 yards. I also saw another small buck bothering a couple does. I would say by the middle of next week it will be going good. Shawn
-
Called in a small buck this morning, saw another one with his nose to the ground, he was on a mission.
-
Had a spike chasing a doe just before dark walked right under my stand, just don't like the three on one side in my area had to let him walk :banghead:
-
Made it out this morning after I changed my alarm's diaper. I had four mature does at 20 yards, not a fawn in sight. Wish the landowner would allow does harvests.I also heard some turkeys waking up.
Hung out til 9:30, then jumped a decent buck on my walk out. He didnt spook too bad. I took some time to investigate before I walked out....the woods are littered with rubs and scrapes. It literally looks like a bomb went off about 30-40 yards from my stand in the thicket.
