Title: Arrow for my new Black widow ?
Post by: hitmantoto on March 30, 2015, 04:04:00 AM
Hello,

I can not find the right arrow (gold tip, easton axis, CX maxima, ... ?) for my new black widow PSAX.

He is 62 inches and 53 pounds at 28 inches.
My draw is 28,5 inches and I cut my arrow at 29,5 or 30 inches. My string is a SBD 8 stands.

It is for making 3D, no hunting.

thank you

Théophile

Ideally, you should be shooting a 400 spine, but since the Widows are cut so deeply, you may need to go to a 340 spine.

If you were more flexible on shaft length, it would be easier. I would also suggest about 200-300 g up front for this set up. A 200g point will give you about a 9g p lb arrow (if you are using a wood grain shaft) and a 300g pt will give you about 11 gp lb.
You can also adjust the side/strike plate out if the arrows you have are acting too weak.

Many guys mistake shafts that are too stiff as being too weak. Stiff shafts often hit the bow as they leave the string. This causes the arrow to kick out away from the bow and makes it look weak so they cut...now it looks like it is getting weaker...so they cut some more.

As usual, BigJim, is right on the money.  I have a MAIII that is #53@28(i draw 29) and can not get a 400 spined arrow to tune.  I am currently using a .350 spined arrow with a 200 grain tip.  I do like lighter arrows though, so around 9 gpp is all I want.  The extra trajectory is awesome in my opinion.

If I were you, I'd look at bloodsport hunter 5575's (.350 spine) or something comparable to those.  These arrows are less than $60/dzn which is a good price!  If gold tip offers a .350 spine, i'd buy from big jim, but the last i checked the 7595's were not what the website showed them to be.

I'll echo the above.

5575's with anywhere from 175 to 225 grains out front fly well out of my 50# @ 29" Widows.

It seems to me that if a 340 spine arrow will tune with a 200-300 grain point, then a 400 spine arrow would tune with a 145 grain point (+ or -). I would prefer the 400/145 combo for 3D because of the flatter trajectory. In fact, that is what I often shoot with a similar bow setup.

I'm running CE 250's  with extra 20 gr insert and 175 gr heads.... arrows are cut to 29.5"
My PL-III is 53# @ 28 and like you, draw just past 28".

Good luck and God bless,

Rodd

Goingoldskool, your PL is not cut past center so it won't compare to their recurves which are cut 3/16" past center.

55g weight change will have very little affect on an arrow shot from a near center shot bow...not a "bunch" on any bow unless it is of very light weight.
DanielB89. Goldtip now has a 340 spine arrow and they call it 340. The woodgrain 7595 (a .300 spine) is a thing of the past.

Save yourself a lot of headaches and get some Arrow Dynamics.  Lites or Standards ought to work.  Play with the tip weight a little to fine tune.
