Title: Looking for and arrow case and need your help
Post by: Caleb the bow breaker on March 24, 2015, 01:41:00 PM
Guys,

been looking at the online options for arrow cases and I am not sure what to get.  Looking for a case that will hold 6-12 arrows with broadheads for storage and transport during hunting season.  I use feathers and would like to be able to protect the fletch from being deformed and the heads from dulling during storage and transport. What do you guys use and what are the pros and cons as you see them of the different options.  I am leaning toward a arrow tube but not sure that there is enough clearance inside for 5" fletching.  Then there is the MTM boxes but those little foam dividers look a little cheap.

All help is appreciated

Caleb, the MTM arrow cases Big Jim is selling are very cheap and water tight.
That's what I use when I travel

Which case specifically do you have.  The ultra plus box, compact or ultra compact?

Caleb I have the arrow plus (you can put a take down and 12 arrows in that one) and the compact one, which IMO is ideal to carry 12 arrows safely while camping in rainy areas

Here is a link to the arrow plus:

PVC drain tube cut to any length with plastic end caps...goes in your duffle safe and cheap.

I use the MTM case PLUS.  Foam works great.  The case is 5" deep which has room to hold the advertised 3 dozen arrows- BUT I LOVE the fact it can hold 12-18 arrows AND my takedown widow recurve in a soft-sided case.  Sweet and economical set-up.  I even use it inside a large duffel/suitcase for air travel.

I use thin wall PVC and glue one end on.  The other end I sand the pipe and inside cap so it comes off easily enough.  Inside the tube I use 4" foam to hold the arrows firm.  I take my broadheads off the shafts and store them separate with a little Vaseline on them to keep from rusting and dulling.  place a strap on the tube and you are ready to roll.

I use an mtm for most hunting trips, but picked up one of the Easton adjustable tubes from 3 Rivers for backpack hunts.  Liked it so much i bought a second one for my tent poles.

This one is 36" in length instead of 32" for a bit more room.

I have several different boxes. The one I choose depends on how I am traveling and how many arrows I like to bring.
The larger MTM is very handy and will hold a lot of arrows with broadheads "safely" yet still hold other trinkets too.

I also like the expanding arrow tube from Gold Tip. Very light weight and compact.

Sure, you can make one out of pvc, but it will run you about $15 if you have to buy the stuff specifically (cheaper if you have the scrap). But those won't allow you to go in from the side like the Mtm  and they only run about $17-30 depending on the model.

I used one similar to the one Joe Skip posted to ship arrows to Colorado two times. I just labeled it and wrapped duct tape around it in two places and shipped USPS. I use it to store my broadhead hunting arrows otherwise.

X2 for the drain pipe. light, cheap, durable. I look for dense poly foam to push the broad heads into and add a piece at the nock end too. Velcro the caps. You can get 1/2 dz hunt arrows and 1 blunt or judo in the center of ea tube. 3 tubes handle one dozen arrows plus the blunts and a 2 or 3 piece takedown it tube #3. This configuration in a good duffle along with other gear has made it thru multiple airline trips and many rides in the back of a packed PU.

I have a Plano and a MTM case with the foam holders and would recommend either. I think I paid around 30 bucks per.

The Gold Tip round one works great.  Compact and light weight.  If you like to keep your BH's on the arrows during travel I think the flat MTM style is a little better.
