Cory Engert of Heartland Longbows is a fine bowyer and good man. I first contacted Cory after I saw a picture of one of his longbows on this site, and have now owned a couple of his bows. Cory builds a forward riser one-piece (see pictures below) and a three-piece belly-mount takedown, which I haven't had the pleasure of shooting yet, but Britt Batterton (britt) on this site raves about his.
Cory's one-piece bows are fast, smooth to draw, quiet, and accurate. Like many of you, I have owned a lot of 62" and 64" longbows. Some of my favorites include Cari-bow Peregrine and Fox Royal Crown, both very good bows, but I have sold these and others in favor of my Heartland longbow. Thanks Cory!

Good looking bows
Rob, Nice looking bows. I just saw some pics of a 62" Zircote and zebra wood that you had. I wish I would have seen that sooner.
Moots, where is his contact on here? Thank you.
Alan, Cory's username here on TG is heartlandbowyer.
I was one of the lucky winners of the Compton bow raffle of 2014. One of the bows I won was a Heartland longbow. It was by far my favorite. Its one of those bows you know you will never sell or trade. When I'm not shooting an ASL longbow, I'm shooting my Heartland. Corey's bow is as fast as any recurve I've ever shot, and the grip is fantastic. I can't say enough good things about the Heartland. Corey contacted me when he found out I won his bow. He told me if the poundage wasn't right or if the bow didn't quite fit me, he had others in his shop I could try. How's that for customer service, especially since he donated the bow. I wouldn't hesitate in ordering a bow from Corey. Corey's top notch in my book.
Fred,
That 62" Zircote / Zebra wood longbow was a great shooter. The two pictured are 64" bows.
I am working with Cory now to build me a three-piece takedown at 68".
Cory's email is:

Cory builds beautiful, great-performing bows at fair prices. Excellent customer service, and a fine guy.
Rob and Greg,
Thank you for the kind words. I feel like I get a little closer to where I want to be on the quality of my bows but I'm not satisfied yet. Maybe in ten years or so lol, i guess when a guy stops getting better its time to find another path.
Thanks,
Cory
I received one of Cory's bows in last years bowswap. 60" 60@29. It's my main brush bow. Shoots a 750gr arrow with serious authority. Ive had offers from friends for it, ain't happening. Can't say enough about this bow. It's awesome!
:scared: GET IT OFF THE CONCRETE!! :scared:
Really pretty bows you have there...
No worries Matty. I just wanted the straight edge of the sidewalk to help show the contour of the bows. Not a scratch.
Moots
Very nice. I love the strung profile.
God bless, Steve
Yes, they are great bows. Cory had great communication skills when he built my bow. He called, texted and emailed pics and info. every step of the way. Best experience I'v had with a bowyer. My 3-piece is sweet, smooth, and fast.
Really nice looking bows!
Hey Moots
Out of all the 20 odd bows I have bought and sold over the years, my Fox Royal Crown is the one I have always regretted selling. It was a beautiful bow in every way. I have always longed to get another. Can you explain a bit more in detail how these Heartland bows are even better than the R/C? Maybe it would be a bit cheaper for me than the R/C and wouldn't have to wait so long - if you reckon they are better! Their style is similiar - both R/D longbows. Also - does he have a website - I did a search and could not find one?
Cheers
Sutto
I had an opportunity to have one of Cory's belly mount recurves...kick myself for not pulling the trigger... :banghead:
Sutto,
Please know that I have the highest regard for Ron and Debbie King, and I am a very big Fox bow fan. I still own a Fox Triple Crown and Breed -- both are excellent bows.
I have owned and shot a lot (too many) longbows; many have been aggressive r/d bows 62 - 64" in length. For me, the very best of these bows included the Peregrine (I've owned two), the Fox Royal Crown (I've owned two), and Cory's Heartland longbow.
I ordered my Royal Crown from Ron, and it is a beautiful bow, and a good shooter. But I found myself always shooting my Heartland. My Heartland is smoother to draw (with the bamboo core), as fast or slightly faster, absolutely dead in the hand with the forward riser, accurate, and I prefer the grip. Cory's standard grip is slightly lower than the standard R/C grip, and a little more contoured. So head to head, I prefer the Heartland over the Royal Crown (and the Peregrine). Cory builds beautiful, high-performing bows at a very fair price, and his customer service is second to none.
Hope this helps,
Moots
Rob,
Those are great looking bows friend. We've owned a bunch of bows and you have consistently ranked Cory's at the top of the heap. Based on what you have told me about his customer service he has it going on. I see one for me or my boys in the near future. Take care and shoot straight.
Bryan
I have to agree with Cory's communication and customer service. He spent a lot of time with me last night to make sure that I received the bow that I was looking for, to the smallest detail.
Rob, Thanks for the heads up on Cory and his bows.
Hi Kevin,
Hope you are well, and we need to head over to the 3D range and do some shooting.
I think you will be pleased with your Heartland.
Rob
I have shot the green and black bow over a chronograph at 52@30 and I draw 29" with a 600 gr.GT arrow and got 163 - 165 with finger release. And I have tested a whole bunch of recurves about the same weight or heavier that were not as fast or very close with the same arrow. Stable and accurate also.
I just received my new bow from Cory, and shot it for the last couple of hours. This is a top notch all around bow.
Throws a heavy arrow on a very good trajectory,
Very smooth to draw,
My fletching makes more noise than the bow,
Absolutely dead in the hand,
Great pointing bow, hits were you look,
Forgiving of my minor form flaws
Forgiving on arrow spine.
It is the best bang for my bow buying buck that I have spent!
I can go on and on...
Check one out if you get a chance.
So Kevin.....do you like that bow?
:bigsmyl:
Tony, Good to hear from you.
But YES! This bow is a Freak, and I mean that in the best possible sense of the word.
Kevin,
I agree, these are great bows. Cory has been flying under the radar, but that might change when he gets his website up.
Cory is building me a takedown longbow. I'll post pictures after I receive it.
Rob
Rob,
The secret is out, I took my bow down to RMSG today. The feed back was outstanding. I think Tom might be looking for one in the very near future.
I can't wait to see what your new bow looks like.
Kevin, Tom at Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear has probably shot thousands of bows. If he is impressed with Cory's bows, that is saying something.
Tom knows bows!
Congrats Rob! But we need his website!!!! :)
Good to hear from you Ad. Hope all is well across the pond.
Shot one of Cory's bows this week and was very impressed. Heck of a nice guy and knowledgeable about bow building.
C
@Moots: Fighting my fight as usual. Nothing news. Therefore my new bow will get the name:"Ahiga" .
At the moment my form is astonishing.... Good that is :) I wasn't able to shoot for halve a year, but the results are like I've been training like a pro... Would there be some justice in this world after all????
Ad,
You are one of the most positive people I know! I admire you.
If you ever get a chance, try one of Cory's Heartland longbows. They compare very favorably, I believe, to the Peregrine.
Rob
Caleb, How long did it take to talk Cory into letting you shoot his bow with the handle of "bow breaker"?
Rob,
Nice to have contact with you again! Its like meeting family! Being positive is an important virtue :)
As for bows: too many bows, too less money! I have a 3pce Timberghost longbow on order...Belly will be of the prettiest crazy myrtle veneers you have ever seen from Curt from The Wood Vault. I picked them myself and had them shipped too Kent. Back will be carbon as per advice of Kent. An I-Beam riser with myrtle to match the belly. Inserts in riser for mounting a Thunderhorn small Fry bold on bowquiver. I will ask the good folks from Thunderhorn to match colors..
Life is good!
I test drove that bow last summer. Hubi has one.. On 28 challenging targets I shot my best 3D round ever and that with a bow you are shooting for the first time!
I have to wait till august....
Hubert and me sure let the good times roll that day.... We both shot that lion straight in the kill with our first arrow at 50 yards... Who could ask for more??? I shot that round with Hubi's Timberghost...
It became very very late that night. Hubert stayed at my place, we had a great dinner together with my wife and set a new record for drinking wine that night.. It was sheer madness, celebrating life and friendship!

Rob, very nice bows!! Looks like great performing bows. I really like the forward riser!!!!
I see some day one of these bows in my hands :)
Sorry don't wanna hijack this thread, but
@Ad my brother, this weekend was a blast. And you shoot great with the Timberghost.
I will never forget the delicious dinner you have cooked, the great wine ( maybe a bootle to much LOL) and the hospitality of you and Joke.
Looking forward to see you and Joke this year at my home.
TRADGANG = FRIENDSHIP
Ad and Hubi,
Great shooting and nice pictures! It's always fun to catch up with you two.
Rob
Sutton asked if there was a website. I would also like to know were I can have a look at some more of his dows.
Thanks guys
If you want to look at the Heartland site he is listed on the Trad Gang Sponsor list up top.

X2 here...
Reminds me a bit of the Bear Alaskan. Great efficiency without the string slap of a recurve.
:archer:
Those are great looking bows. Really need to check them out.
Cory\\'s Website (http://heartlandbows.com/)
Hey guys, it's still a work in progress so have some patience but here is the link. Oh and there is nothing better than living 3 houses down from Cory. Somebody's got to shoot and give a second opinion on each bow he makes. :D I also have the pleasure of owning two of his bows and they are hard to beat. Dave
Dang, that pulse really looks like a great bow! Hybrid design and forward riser, those are the key words!
Moose, you are one lucky dog! :)
